We stayed at the Sandbelt Hotel to be near the Monash Hospital, as a family member was having surgery.
Although the staff are polite and friendly, the accommodation was filthy. The rooms are old, and the hotel has a 3 star rating, so we weren't expecting the place to be pristine. But the apartment we stayed in was filthy. First was the syringe in the bathroom. When we contacted management she came over, and we were surprised to see that she wasn't wearing mask (although they were mandatory on that date due to Covid) She wasn't wearing gloves, and simply wrapped the syringe in a piece of A4 paper and politely told us that the room would be cleaned in the morning and management would be in touch. Had my mum not had surgery early the next day we would have left.
The shower was mouldy and there was hair stuck to the shower walls. The floors were dirty, the bedsheets had greasy brown stains and the underlay was stained. The tabletop and bench was dirty, one of the cups had lipstick on it, and several plates had dried food on them. There was something sticky spilled in one of the cupboards, the window sills and ledges were dirty and had dead bugs. The two attached photos show where we wiped the floor with water, you can clearly see how dirty it is
The manager refunded our money (although this wasn't done for several days and I had to eventually get the booking agent involved, they had ma refund within an hour whereas the hotel hadn't managed to do so in 6 days) They also gave us a restaurant voucher. Although cleaners came to the room, they simply changed the sheets and wiped the shower. We also observed cleaners drop clean linen in the carpark and put it back onto the cart. The cleaners did not show up at all for the next two days as they were allegedly ill.
In addition, the hotel is very noisy, construction work began 7am each morning of our stay, and patrons in the other rooms were very loud.
The restaurant serves nice reasonably priced food.
I would not recommend this hotel unless they seriously address the issues they have with cleaning

Response from Vicki Kurtanjek, General Manager at Sandbelt Club Hotel
Responded 3 Mar 2021
Good Morning Emilie, Thankyou for your feedback and I sincerely apologise for the condition in which you found your room. I completely understand your dissatisfaction. I will be working closely with our cleaners to ensure these issues are both rectified and maintained in the future. It must have been distressing to find the syringe and clearly the other cleanliness issues are simply unacceptable. In regards to the refund, the delay unfortunately lay with the booking agent themselves. The refund was processed at the venue on Friday. This automatically refunds back to Expedia who should then refund back to you, however clearly there was a delay on their behalf. I apologise for this. Once again Emilie, I appreciate your feedback and I'm very sorry about the state of the room. We will be focussing on tighter controls with the cleaning staff and ensuring all management are following up with issues as they occur. Kind Regards, Vicki Kurtanjek

Room was very tired. In desperate need of an upgrade. Difficult to get key in and out of door lock. Door difficult to open and close once you get the key in. Saving grace was the reception staff who were friendly and helpful

Ordered a chicken parma, was tougher than an old leather boot. Appeared to have been pre-cooked and then reheated with a bit of cheese on top. Dry, thin, tough and impossible to chew. Worst I ever had. Avoid at all costs. Horrendous.

A couple of days ago we visited friends in the area and the four of us went to the Sandbelt for lunch.
We all decided to have the seniors meal as we had not long ago had nibbles at our friends house.
Three of us had the fish and chips and the other the roast of the day which was beef.
Roast was nice as was the fish and chips, I had my fish grilled, very good .
The seniors meal was quite adequate and very good value.
Staff were hospitable and food came out quickly.
Our friends eat there often, it was a good choice for a quick lunch.
Would be good for families as there are entertainment rooms for kids, good sports bar and pokies are there if your that way inclined.
Would happily return when in the area again

Well , you always see those 50's style motels on the movies, well from the chip and coke machines outside the room and then you envisage how mum and dad use to do it in there day well this is it .
You have all the mod conveniences and in reality its basic but nice ,Drive the car to your door , open it and there's a bed TV shower and a toilet that's it ! No frills ,no spa ,not nothing just plain jane and clean and nice .I enjoyed my stay and the best of all buy one can of coke and kick the machine you get 5 more free , Aint life grand !

Consistently good food and service
Great atmosphere for any occasion and big dining area allows plenty of room between tables which is nice for quiet conversation
All in all good value and would recommend
Using shop a docket makes it an even more reasonable price

One of the cheapest accommodation you can get in Melbourne.

Chose the place as we were out all day and only needed a place to sleep for a couple of days.

The place is rundown but it was clean. The sofa had collapsed and look definitely not sanitary to sit on.

However the place was not noise (except the air con unit) and we had a decent sleep.

Too small to handle very large suitcases but for the price you pay it is of good value.

The toilet was old but clean. Had the handles on the tap falling off but easy to screw back on...

Recommended? If you are on a budget it is a safe option. No real issues. However, for an extra 20 - 30 dollars a night you can get much better.

I choose the Sandbelt Club Hotel because of a 94% Good! review from 33 people on Wotif. 3.7 out of 5 Points. What a joke. I should have trusted tripadvisor...

Reason I am so dissappointed is that nothing is really as advertised.
1. It is not a Hotel it is a Motel, Hotel is only the name of the Pub which owns the Motel.
2.it is not a Continental Breakfast ( which is by definition something made of bread/toast butter jam cheese etc. ) you get a prepacked musli in a plastic bowl at checkin thats it.
3. Highspeed Internet took me 1hr to download 200 MB
4. Window, Aircon/Heater, Fan in bathroom are covered in dust they havent been cleaned the last decade!
5. Heater + fridge works well but is very very noisy, had to turn it off during night.
6. Everything is broken and nobody seems to care about it. Not something small as the 5$ picture frame for the housrules behind the door and so also nobody cared about the halfbroken lamp attached to the bed. Just I got an electro shock when I touched that lamp's metal outside! I measured it later with a multimeter 168V !!! Imagine your little kid jumping on the bed touching that lamp..... told the management about it response was : Oh, thanks for letting us know. ??! No apologies or any request if I am injured or anything.

The Food in the Pub/Bar is Ok but nothing to get excited about. The MOTEL is in some industrial area nothing around in walking distance besides a bottleshop.
Because the absolutley no refund policy I was trapped there for a week although I wanted to leave already when I entered my room.
