Unless this place is I heritage location the 1970s styling is very tired and the calling it a “lodge” is a big stretch. Whole accommodation could do with a serious facelift. The slat bed was so hard we had trouble sleeping. The communal dining however was a fun experience and we got to chat with some lovely people that we wouldn’t have otherwise met. Package included breakfast and dinner but food options for vegetarians or dietary needs limited. Not great value for money.
Stayed one night on our trip around the South Island and wanted to try somewhere different . The place is certainly not flash but has all facilities you would likely need. We took the room, dinner and breakfast package which for the standard of accommodation is pretty expensive . Dinner was a set menu with 2 options and breakfast was standard fair . In my option what really let the accommodation down was the quality of the bed, as it was so damn hard and no aircon which made for a very uncomfortable night. The staff were helpful and friendly
Our group of 7 just loved staying here on night 2 of our Alps to Ocean Cycle trip. We felt very spoilt and were amazed by the views and comfort of the main lodge area. The lounge is exactly as a lodge should be, very inviting and warm with a beautiful stone fireplace .... and probably a great place to stay even when the weather is awful. Food was excellent and even the special food requirements side of our group were very happy (we ranged from carnivours to flexitarian and vegan, non dairy and food allergies). Lodge has easy access and just a short walk to the lake side beach - with its amazing views. Some of us finished the day with a lovely relaxing stint in the hot spas. We stayed in Huxley wing, which was peaceful and quiet. The night sky was so clear the Milky Way was like a ribbon in the sky. We almost didn't want to leave to continue our A2O cycle. Definitely can recommend and we plan to return again.…
Stayed on our Alps 2 Ocean ride and really enjoyed the experience. The lodge is a wonderful building and an example of brilliant design. The scenery is simply stunning and the staff were universally friendly and helpful. My dinner was disappointing (staffing is very tough for NZ hospitality providers currently). However, the dining room is lovely, company was good and staff great. Breakfast was very good as were our pack lunches.
My now wife and I selected Ohau Lodge for our wedding in Jan 2020. We looked at a few different venues in the area but decided on the lodge due to the super helpful staff and owners and the stunning setting. The lodge was exclusively booked out for the big day and it was awesome to have the guests all staying on site. No need for people to drive or catch buses to their accommodation. It was the best choice we could have made for one of the most memorable moments of our life. The lodge know how to do weddings so it takes a lot of the stress out of organizing those final details of the big day. I could not recommend this venue enough.
