Small rooms, but very well equipped & spotless. No elevator. Very friendly staff. Great location on the market square. Saturday is market day, so no parking. Good value for money (by Swiss standards).

The best aspect of this hotel was the location. Right on the lake and in the square. There is a market on the weekends with fabulous produce and cheese, meats and local fare. My room was over the kitchen so a bit noisy during meals. There was not a coffee pot for making coffee in am, and that is a minimum must for me. Bed was comfy, shower was hot, and WiFi was adequate. For price I thought room was a bit sparse. Glad I didn’t get breakfast. It looked pretty basic with cereal, croissants, and coffee.

I spent two nights in Vevey Switzerland and decided to stay in one of the smaller hotels close to the train station. I booked a single room in the Hostellerie de Genève on the Place du Marché. The Hotel is near the Lake and is City Center next to old Vevey a five minute walk from Vevey's main railway station if you are not carrying a lot of bags.

The Hotel is housed in two old buildings and the reception is  in the restaurant through a shaded outdoor terrace.

Check in was quick and I was taken to my room four flights of stairs as there is no lift.

I booked a single room and was given room number 1 a double bedroom. There is no air conditioning in the Hotel but the rooms are centrally  heated. WiFi is free of charge in the rooms and in the hotel. It seems Vevey offers their visitors free wifi in certain areas like the Place du Marché.

Very pleasant clean room overlooking both the market square and side view of Lake Geneva. Comfortable bright double bed European standards a small outdated TV and safe were in the room. A suitcase rack was in the cupboard. No refrigerator no coffee maker and of course no iron. Two small mineral bottles of water one still the other sparkling  were offered free of charge.

The very clean shower had a hair dryer and a really small shower cubicle so if you happen to be medium built you can hardly move while having a shower. Towels hair cap shampoos soaps with shoe shine were supplied.

the Hotel is over a restaurant and the lovely outdoor terrace returning to the Hotel around 10:30 when last orders are served could be a little annoying as you can smell the cooked food. If you return after 11 you should be fine the restaurant starts closing.

After midnight you can only access the Hotel through a back entrance but must make sure you keep the room key with you otherwise you cannot get in.

I paid CHF150 including continental breakfast tax is added to your bill.

Breakfast is served from 07:00am in the basement a cosy decorated room.
Fruit juices not fresh a poor variety of fruits milk cereals two types of bread brown and white excellent coffee tea a couple of commercial cheese cold hard boiled eggs ham yoghurt butter home made jams and honey. I think I saw some sweet pie that was covered that no one bothered to remove. No croissant nor brioche.

The second morning I did not have breakfast as I had to catch the 05:20 train to Geneva airport. I used the back door and left the key  in the room.

I had lunch on the terrace which was good and reasonably priced and later had a drink early evening.

Centrally located one is within walking distance to the Lake old part of town bus stops train station banks post office restaurants shops Museums etc.

I would definitely return to L'hostellerie de Genève for a night or two.

Last but not least all the staff were very polite cheerful and pleasant. I had to print my boarding pass which was done immediately at no charge

When you look at the pictures in the internet website, rooms look very nice, but reality is a very different one. Furniture requiring a total renewal, carpets dirty, bathroom was extremely small. This is by far the hotel I would like to chose if known what I saw.

The personnel was correct and the hotel is well placed in the Place du Marche, but I wouldn't have gone if known the quality of rooms.

The breakfast was also not good, very limited choice, even not a single croissant!
Not recommended.

We always knew that Switzerland was going to be expensive but manners cost nothing! We found the hotel staff quite unhelpful. We were on the 3rd floor and with no lift and copious amounts of luggage, this was no easy task! Considering how expensive the hotel was, we were quite shocked that we were not allowed to use an iron. We were only permitted to leave our laundry in to be washed, dried and ironed (at a charge of course!) Also, the staff refused to clean our room because we had the audacity to still be in bed at 11am! We had friends who were staying at the hostel across the square (at a fraction of the price) who had a much more enjoyable and friendly stay). The hotel claimed to have free wi-fi which I wasn't able to get in our room. Instead I had to use the free wi-fi available in the square by hanging out the window. The general rudeness of the people in Vevey have ensured that I will never visit there again!

We had a 4-person family room that had 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom. Room was on the top floor and quite hot (no elevator). Our rooms looked over the central parking lot of Vevey near the lake towards the casino; view was fine but we didn't spend much time in our room. Hotel staff was not overly solicitous, but nice and definitely preferred to speak French. We ate dinner one night at the hotel and it was a good. Breakfast options included breads, fresh croissants, homemade jams, cheese, cereals and yogurt. Enjoyed the gelato shop next door. Vevey does not have a lot of budget or mid-range hotel options; this is the most expensive place we stayed while in Switzerland (even more than Zermatt!). However, if you want to go to Vevey, this is a good moderately-priced option.

The hotel is on the main square in Vevey so very central. We came during the Fetes Des Vignerons a once every 20 year festival. The Place du Marche was dominated by a 20,000 seat temporary stadium but that is why we booked the hotel to be near the festival. Sadly the hotel prices rose from CHF 160 to CHF 600 which is outrageous. The Patron did give us a CHF 50 discount per night.

We had a 'suite’ number 17 that looked out on the place du marche. The double glazing was good as the parties went on sometimes until 4am. The curtains are a bit thin so bring eyeshades if you need them.

Putting the price to one side the room was adequate with some seating space and a small but usable shower (no bath).

The restaurant downstairs did an average breakfast but you would do better going next door to the patisserie.

Dinner on the other hand was better than I expected with a good rognon de veau. They needed far more staff than they has as the service was slow but given the hundreds of customers they did a good job.

Very friendly staff and were it not for the fetes they would have scored higher.

Well worth a stay when it isn't so crazy.

Stayed here on business and had a comfortable room. I was on the top floor and there seems to be no lift so if you have mobility issues you need to book a lower floor. Rooms are clean but if you are phased by the toilet being in the room (i.e. not in a separate bath room) you may want to seek alternative accommodation. This wasn't a problem for me as I was the only one in the room. Breakfast is good with a generous selection of breads, cereals, meats etc. Service is friendly and efficient, with reasonable prices for this part of the world. Very handy for the town and within walking distance of most things including the train station.

Was there on business, loving room, the sort that would be great for a weekend jumping point, the main complaint was that there was no AC and it was a roasting room, I had to sleep with all the windows open and as there are a number of bars and a big carpark out front it was not quiet. The 2 biggest things i have when staying at a hotel are free wi-fi and ironing facilitates in your room, the wifi was good, but now iron was available and i had to use their chargeable laundry service to iron the clean shirst i had after travel (not good). Also not being able to charge a meal to my room was a surprise. And am sorry to say was one of the worst breakfasts I have ever had (bagette and ham, nothing cooked nor any cereals)

Response from Florian-Devaud, Assitant Manager at Hostellerie de Geneve (Hotel)
Responded 21 Sept 2016
Dear Mr. Andrew B, I would like first to thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. We really value your opinion. We are really happy to hear that you found the rooms lovely and that the wifi was satisfying to you. Nevertheless, we are really sad to read you had several issues during your stay. It is true that we don't provide any ironing facilities in the room but we give access to the laundry upon request. We were indeed not able to charge the meals on the rooms before. I am happy to say that this issue has now been solved. Concerning the breakfast, thanks to your comment, we are now offering cereals "By Maximilien". Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other queries. We hope to see you once again, here, in Vevey. Best Regards, Florian Dévaud
