Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Its late night driving, we were running out of gas and the car radiator had a leak. Luckily we remember the Frances Hotel was a few km behind us. So we drove back and asked for a room to stay. To our surprise the bar and pool table was still busy, and we met motel owner Sharon and Din and asked for help. They were extremely helpful and hospitable. We got delicious hamburger, ice cold draft beer, a clean and confortable room for the night all at very reasonable price. Next morning we had a sumptuous breakfast at the dinning room. Din helped us on a quick fix to stop the radiator leak, provided us with a 20L water tank for cooling water refill in case needed, and dosed the gas tank with sufficient fuel to the nearest station. Thanks for Sharon and Din's kind help we managed our way back to Melbourne. Frances Hotel is certainly the place to spend the night if you are near the area. Rooms: clean and roomy Food & drinks: tasty and value for money

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and a beer while on way home from Naracoorte caves. Great country pub with friendly vibe and good people. Highly recommend this place to anyone passing through. Always seems to have a good crowd around as well

After phoning and booking for coffee and cake Sunday evening for 5 people arriving at 10 30Monday morning at this very rural hotel/motel we sure were in for a surprise on arrival. The publican had the heating on and greeted us on arrival. After lots of chit chat we ordered our coffee and cake!! We were presented with a plate of 5 beautiful homemade scones (along with butter, cream and jam) and another plate with 5 large slices of cinnamon cake on it. Needless to say when we had devoured this beautiful food and very nice coffee we didn't need lunch for quite some time after. When I went to pay the price was so very reasonable I said"are you sure". I strongly recommend this venue for small or large groups but would also recommend no matter what day of the week you might like to visit, that a phone call to the venue would be priority as it is a very small rural venue.

This pub is awesome but definetly going down hill, food is always nice but the chefs personality come across very rude and arrogant. Duct tape on toilet lid in ladies, tap leaking in mens toilet, and urinal constantly flowing. Could be cleaner in spots. And definetly in need of new publicans.

We had a great meal at this pub and were only saddened that we weren't staying coz it looked and felt really nice. The food was good, the service was excellent and the ambiance was next to none. It's off the beaten track (or at least off the main highway) but well worth stopping by, if you're in the area.

We stayed the night and it was a most enjoyable experience, We were guided by TripAdvisor and we were not let down! The accommodation was clean, spacious, light and tastefully decorated. We needed to do our laundry and a guest laundry was handy to our room. A pleasant surprise was the breakfast supplies as part of our tariff. The motel room was located a few steps from the character filled hotel. Ken the owner is a friendly publican and we had a most enjoyable evening with good wine and a free range turkey schnitzel topped with pizziola and a tasty side salad with crunchy apples. Tuesday night was schnitzel night. The Polish Chef did a great job. We never order schnitzel when we are eating out, however, this was the only choice and we were definitely not disappointed. We will be back !!

Frances is a tiny town on the SA/VIC border, but with a surprisingly good hotel. The proprietors and staff are very friendly and helpful, and it has a large dining room serving honest and tasty pub grub. The motel is interesting, with rooms ranging from the expected large rooms with en-suite, down to really low-cost single/twin rooms. There is a kitchen/lounge which is well equipped, and a light breakfast is included in the room cost. If you're there in the last weekend in February, enjoy the Folk Gathering, which attracts hundreds of folkies for some great music and a lot of fun.
