The Balladonia Roadhouse hotel often leaves guests feeling underserved, with reports of inattentive service and inadequate amenities, especially when it comes to the number of toilets and showers. Its remote location offers a tranquil retreat for some, but others take issue with occasional disturbances and the high costs associated with its seclusion. Complaints about noisy road trains disrupting stays are common, and the rooms are frequently criticized for cleanliness issues and unpleasant odors. Many guests consider the hotel overpriced, citing a lack of value and an atmosphere that can feel uncomfortable and unclean.

Our recent stay at Balladonia Caravan Park left much to be desired, with several notable shortcomings that significantly detracted from the overall experience.
Exorbitant Pricing for Subpar Facilities:
The cost of $50 for a powered site was exorbitant, especially when compared to to Eucla, which charged significantly less at $15. What's more perplexing is that despite the higher price tag, Balladonia Caravan Park offered fewer facilities, making the hefty fee seem unjustified.
Prioritizing Free Campers Over Paying Guests:
The staff's apparent focus on preventing free campers rather than ensuring the satisfaction of paying guests was a noticeable and disheartening aspect of our stay. This misplaced priority left paying customers feeling undervalued and overlooked.
Disturbing Noise Levels from Passing Road Trains:
The constant noise from passing road trains, particularly the intrusive sound of exhaust brakes, disrupted any hope of a peaceful and restful stay. This unforeseen disturbance was a major drawback that significantly impacted the overall tranquillity of the location.
Overpriced Adblue Purchase:
We were taken aback by the excessive charge of 70% more for a mere 20 litres of Adblue compared to other locations. This unexpected expense added to our dissatisfaction and raised questions about the fairness of pricing for essential supplies.
Inadequate Facilities for the Number of Guests:
With only one toilet and two showers catering to 40 caravan sites, the facilities at Balladonia Caravan Park were grossly insufficient. The resulting queues and wait times were inconvenient and tarnished the overall experience.
Insufficient Cleaning of Toilets and Showers:
The hygiene standards fell short of expectations, as both the lone toilet and the two showers were in need of more frequent cleaning. This neglect contributed to an uncomfortable and unsanitary atmosphere, further diminishing the appeal of the park.
Reconsidering Future Visits:
Given the disappointing experience, we have made the decision to plan our future trips to bypass Balladonia Caravan Park. The combination of high prices, inadequate facilities, and a lack of attention to guest satisfaction makes it an unappealing choice for future stays.
In conclusion, our stay at Balladonia Caravan Park was marred by excessive costs, inattentive staff priorities, disruptive noise, overpriced essentials, and subpar facilities. Regrettably, we cannot recommend this caravan park to fellow travellers seeking a pleasant and value-for-money experience.

I understand that this place is rural and that it's expensive because of this but I wish I'd planned to stop elsewhere on the way through.

On arrival we discovered that there is no reception or wifi here, the only method of communication is via payphone.
It's definitely hard being in a blackout zone (first world problems haha)

So booking wise you don't get any confirmation (which makes me nervous), then when you arrive there is no obvious area to check in. The guy had trouble finding our booking though when he did find it the rest of check in went smoothly.

There was a disgusting smell outside the rooms, not sure if this was fuel or chemical or what but it STUNK.

Room was quite small but neatly presented and beds were pretty comfortable, but considering how cold it gets outside in winter no blankets, just top sheet and coverlette, thankfully there were light blankets in the cupboard, but I could of done with two, I wouldn't wanna stay here in winter.
We got the family suite, if we weren't close before we were after a night in this room.
Though the room looked clean, the bathroom was dirty, cobwebs on the wall and ceiling, layer of dust on the sills and tops of tile edges and the toilet brush looked like it hadn't been used in months it was that dusty.

Ate at the restaurant (no other options in the area haha) and it was really average food and on the pricey end of the scale.

We had the parmy which was nothing to write home about, friends had the chicken fettuccine which was lucky to have a handful of bits of chicken throughout it and the stir fry which was mainly noodles and sauce, the side of steamed veg was a disappointing looking bowl of mixed frozen veg. The best part of the whole meal was the garlic bread.

We had been pre-warned fuel was going to be expensive, it was up there, though I had expected worse.

If I did this trip again if probably plan it so that we stopped in Caiguna or Norsmen instead of here, but this place is here for a reason and though expensive, will give you a good nights sleep before you get on the road again.

Basic room with an overpriced cost. No microwave, No wifi and a filthy toilet bowl! Yes, it is a remote location, however most of the accommodation from the SA/WA border is remote and not as costly with access to wifi and cheaper meals etc for guests. This place will price gouge on just about everything. 1 bottle of coke, asking price $10!!…C’mon!!..what a shocker!!

Balladonia Roadhouse was reached after a 688kms drive west from Nullarbor Roadhouse. We had tried to book a room ahead, from Caiguna Roadhouse, but no one answered the phone, it was 4.30pm. The Caiguna Roadhouse proprietor said that Balladonia doesn’t answer the phone after 4.00pm. We reached Balladonia after dark, 6.30pm to find NO VACANCIES, so we slept in our SUV, and paid $50 to simply park the car and use the toilet. We bought an overpriced meal, and were going to be charged $5 for the use of a second plate. The waitress at the bar was unhelpful and seem annoyed that we only wanted a bottle of tap water; we didn’t order an overpriced drink. Most staff were ‘recent foreign’ workers who had difficulty communicating.
When I asked if I could buy some WiFi time, I was told that they don’t have this service; yet this part of the NULLARBOR was a ‘black hole’ for internet/ phone access.
We left the next morning as soon as we awoke to leave behind a most inhospitable place.
I suggest you don’t stop, and plan ahead to bypass Balladonia Roadhouse if at all possible.

Do not believe the website’s advertising regarding the caravan park! The website paints a glowing, inviting picture of a desirable location.
A powered site, no water, though this is normal and understandable for roadhouse caravan sites across the Nullarbor.
My issue in particular was the state of the ladies amenity block in the caravan park. The door of one toilet stall could not be locked. The place was not particularly clean with occupied spider’s webs 🕷 dangling. My advice if you need to stay is to walk over to the toilets near the service station.
The price for one night? $50. If the facilities had been as advertised this would have been fair and reasonable. I’ve stayed at many roadhouse caravan sites in some remote regions in our beautiful country and most have been quite satisfactory whatever the price.

$50 no wifi no dump point, pub/restaurant open about 2 hours from 5 to 7 ish.
So what are we paying for compared to all the other better and cheaper roadhouses on the nullabour. Lots of bees around pool make it impossible to swim in. We had a dusty caravan site. Taking advantage!!

We stayed here for 1 night - thankfully-
Travelling from Esperance. We were charged $50 which is an absolute rip off for a powered site with no water connection. We were paying that a night in Esperance for a powered site with water. The toilets are disgusting and look they never get cleaned..everything in the shop and cafe are so expensive. There is no dump point. And the list goes on. Price Gouging at its best.
I would recommend going on further to Caiguna or Cocklebiddy - who charge way less for a powered site and have water. If I could give a zero as a score I def would
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

I know it is a remote location but you can clean the rooms to a better standard and upgrade the beds. The mattress was so old the only place for it was the top of a bonfire.
Very overpriced.
I would recommend anyone traveling around Australia to get a caravan so they have a clean bed to sleep in and not pay in excess of $200 for a room that is not hygienic enough to be leased to anyone.

Stayed in a standard queen room with an ensuite for $140. Had previously stayed in a family room in Feb 2021. While the bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean and all amenities worked the room needed a good clean. The carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed and the fridge not cleaned, the room just felt grotty. Takeaway coffee cups provided for in-room tea/coffee making. The bathroom door was closed when I entered the room and upon opening, there was a horrible smell of mould. The shower tiling grout was covered in pink mould. Next door, my parents room didn't fare much better. The shower mould was so thick that someone had scratched in "clean me c***". Having read other reviews about people raising the cleanliness issues with staff, I didn't bother mentioning it during the stay as I'm sure it would fall on deaf ears. I understand the challenges COVID has brought and the limited water supply at Balladonia however, having stayed at other motels/accommodation across the Nullabor this was the most expensive and the dirtiest. In the scheme of things Caiguna/Norseman/Fraser Range a not far away so they need to be mindful of this.

The Balladonia roadhouse and the Eucla hotel were the best places (for us) to stay along the Nullarbor (up to the WA border). Balladonia is a little closer to the main road, but both offer VERY friendly service, a bar, restaurant, clean and neat rooms and a refreshing swimming pool. The food at Balladonia was terrific- you could even eat in the great little museum which we found extremely interesting.
Best to book these places directly!

We rang them 2 hours before we got there- and it was OK. I would suggest that you would not need to book in advance unless it was school holidays.
