The hotel is on a busy road but we found it quietened down OK at night. The rooms are a little on the small side considering it is the “grand” original hotel in Valloire and very much focused on the ski theme not on the summer trade. The beds all seemed to be normal doubles so not very large. The shower room was tiny with a very small shower cubicle. There was plenty of parking across the road. There is also a swimming pool but unfortunately it was raining when we arrived so it was closed up.

Valloire and the hotel were very quiet at the end of June, and we were one of only two groups in the (very good) restaurant. The meal was especially well presented with lots of little extras.

The hotel is well positioned to walk to other bars and restaurants but a lot of them were not open at the end of June.

My family stayed at the hotel for a skiing holiday. At the last moment my wife found out that she couldn't come due to professional reasons. The staff was very supportive and didn't charge the half-board for her and let me stay in the large room that we had originally asked. The food was surprisingly good and the menu's quite varied. The rooms are super clean and the staff are very very friendly. I highly recommend this place.

Spent 2 nights in this hotel while visiting my family on vacation there. Place is clean and location good, it's a bit noisy with a round about right in front of the hotel. hotel is decorated like many places in that part of France, lots of wood with red and white linens everywhere. Breakfast buffet was good and plentiful, service was friendly and quick.

This hotel was booked due to its proximity to St Jean de Maurienne which was hosting this year's big amateur cycling event 'l'etape du tour'. I would say that a big part of this hotel's business outside of ski season must come from cycling. The name 'galibier' in the hotel also indicated this would be the case. Anyway I walk through the reception with my bike and the first comment I receive is 'pas de velos dans le chambres...' Obviously disappointing when you think the hotel is cycle friendly. It was suggested that my bike get left in the car (worth more than 2000 euros) which I refused. The receptionist at the time (also joint owner of hotel I think) was kind enough to offer to put my bike in a secure cupboard in the hotel lobby so I accepted. At this point I thought OK this isn't too bad I can accept that bikes gets dirty and they don't want them in the rooms and an alternate option was offered to me. She told me that when I wake up in the morning the owner would open the cupboard and give me my bike. So I was assured that it was secured.

We arrived in the room which was quite charming with wooden furniture. The hotel is quite noisy though. When people walk around upstairs it sounds like there are elephants in the building.

Having not slept much I woke up at 5 and went downstairs at 5.30 (this seems early but bear in mind many other guests were awake at this time and the hotel lobby was packed with cyclists doing the same event as me). I walked downstairs and the cupboard where my bike was put was wide open with no bike in it. Obviously I started panicking and then the hotel owner came (seemingly a bit annoyed that I was by this cupboard). I ask where my bike is and he points to the front door. The bike was rested against a wall right by the front door...............

I was disappointed because a very expensive possession of mine was put next to the front door where anyone could have just walked out with it with no questions asked. The owner obviously had no care for whose bike it was and just wanted it out of his way. What I dislike the most is that the owners are more than happy to pick up the money (not the cheapest available in this area) but not too happy to provide much else of a service.

If my bike was in the cupboard when I woke up and the owner showed some care and courtesy towards me and my possession than the hotel could get 3 out of 5. I still believe it is expensive for what you get.

I arrived - a very cold and wet cyclist - in the middle of the day, but was immediately given a warm welcome. From then until my final departure 24 hours later, I was given every assistance, meals, storing panniers, advice for Galibier. Quite a large hotel, but individual attention & wonderfully warm rooms in a very cold June.

Stayed at the Grand Hotel during my cycling trip, June 2017.
Not bad....old, but nice. The room as basic, but clean, the bathroom was good !
Good food, both breakfast and dinner.

Nice, very friendly owner/staff !

Valloir, from all appearances does not have super great hotels, so this one may be one of the better.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel in Valloire for two nights during a cycling race from Nice to Geneva. The hotel is well located being within easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping and by the looks of things - several ski lifts. Rooms were spacious and well appointed Ted with a nice sized balcony. Shower facilities were excellent - much appreciated after each day of the race. The storage area provided for the bikes was secure and had a work stand and pump which was a nice touch. Breakfasts were excellent in terms of quality and variety.

My wife and I stayed here for one night as part of a two week trip to Europe. It is centrally located in a beautiful town with great hiking and cycling (why we were there). The hotel itself is pretty average - a little worn out, but clean with Spartan rooms (i.e. minimal clutter). The staff was very friendly. The breakfast, which was not included, was a weak spot. It cost nearly 1/3 the price of our room, but was rather weak in its freshness and options. Not terrible by any stretch, just not worth EU 15/person considering the other options around town.
overall, however, it was a fine place to stay. Although, when we return, we will more than likely stay elsewhere.

"I would not advise to stay in rooms 131 or 132, for the chimney of the fire place from the diner is right next to your window. At least in wintertime, from early in the evening untill late at night, its smoke floats in your bedroom. The rooms on the first floor do not have a balcony."
