Stayed here over the UK half term with 3 adults, 3 kids (aged between 6-3) and 1 baby. The check in process was very long and quite inefficient - we arrived early only to be told to come back at 2pm. We came back at the proposed time but the check in queue was very long, there was only 1 person checking everyone in and inevitably there were arguments amongst the guests as to who was where in the queue. Would definitely recommend they improve this process. Having said this, there is a pool table, a tv, a kids corner and windows looking into the swimming pool to occupy anyone waiting.

Moving on from the check in process, the apartment was good. A very spacious kitchen/lounge/dining area which was clean on arrival. We had three bedrooms, one en-suite although the toilet was separate to the en-suite. It was a little bit on the squashed size in the en-suite bedroom but like other reviewers have mentioned, you are given enough comforts to make your stay comfortable - i.e. extra duvets, pillows etc.

The heating of the apartment was controlled by Reception which would have been fine had we all been skiing in the day but because one of the adults and the baby was home during the day, we needed the apartment to be warm throughout the day which ended up being a quick call to reception.

One thing I would mention is that if you have young kids that eat early, it's difficult to get dinner out at 5/6pm so you would need to make your own. Most restaurants started serving dinner from 7pm onwards.

Samoens is a beautiful village, very quaint and pretty. You can walk to the ski lift easily but again, if you have small kids, it might be easier to either drive to the lift, or up the mountain to save the hassle of them carrying their skis etc.

Overall, I would recommend this town as a ski resort and the aparthotel as somewhere to stay. It's not as luxurious as some of the other resorts I've heard about (those with kids clubs, babysitters, mini waterparks etc) but we had a great stay and made some great memories.

Dear LaneC, First of all thank you for your comment on our residence and also for your trust in choosing CGH for your vacations. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Noticing the location of our residence in the village, indeed we are near the center of Samoens. We are situated very close to all the facilities needed during a week (supermarket, bakery, restaurants, sport shops, shuttles departure…). We hope to see you soon one more time in La Reine Des Près. best regards

We returned for another week in Aug 2015 and loved it. Went for a 3 bed apartment and were pleased with the extra space. Lovely view over the valley from our top floor, southwest facing spot. Really quiet bedrooms, and very comfortable beds. Pool area beautifully clean - however bring your own towels if you want to avoid the 15 euro towel hire charge (you're not allowed to bring room towels to the pool.) Spa lovely. Gym well equipped. The new manager (Pascal) was very welcoming and his team all very pleasant. And the good news is they've relaxed the apartment inspection a bit on the last day, so it feels less like a youth hostel and more like a proper hotel!

Only things still to work on are:
* the welcome drinks where local partners are invited to 'sell' their activities to guests need to be bilingual so that British guests feel included (as mentioned in my 2012 review).
* wifi - boring to have to log in each time with a complicated user name/ password combination

Overall though - this is a real find. We love it, and to prove it, we've just booked our 3rd visit this August, this time for 2 weeks.

Other top tips for the area:
* bike hire from Extreme Glisses - really helpful, and English speaking
* the best restaurant we found was le Relais du Septimontain. Very genuine, good cooking, quick service, and well priced.
* for take away food, you can't beat the 'deli' up the road - 'le Veau Gras', but get there early before all the rotisserie chickens are gone!
* local outdoor municipal swimming pool is great too - very clean - however bring speedo swimming trunks as no shorts style trunks are allowed in French public pools

We are just returning from a week in a two bed apartment, sleeps 4 to 6 with a sofa bed in the lounge. Was great for 4, might be crowded for 6 adults. Kitchen included a toaster, kettle, coffee machine which takes senseo pods, bring your own cafetiere if you don't hand blender, whisk, salt and pepper pots (empty), and a cleaning pack which had enough washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets for the week, two tea towels and a dishcloth and scourer. Not enough loo roll for the week so bring an extra roll if you're driving. It was nice to have two bathrooms and a separate loo. Both had extremely hot towel rails, be careful of drying clothes on them on full power, as coating on ski gloves etc can melt! The lounge and spa areas are great and staff are happy for you to bring a drink and crisps down to the lounge to chill while playing snooker. You can borrow a DVD player for the week for free, as well as raclette , bring dvds from home though since there wasn't much choice in English. Underground parking is great, you can park right outside whichever block you're in to access ski locker and lift to apartment. Two minute drive to free parking at base of cable car, we were there Easter week and there was always space. For food, it's worth stocking up at the Carrefour in Cluses if you drive, much cheaper than Samoens, but the local Sherpa is a two minute walk and well stocked if not. Samoens is a really pretty alpine village, lovely in both summer and winter. We only ate out once because we were content to stay in and chill by the pool then lounge after a day on the slopes, but there's a good choice of restaurants, albeit expensive. Brasserie le savoie on the main square serves a good selection of crepes, omelette, burgers, steak frites etc very quickly and efficiently and does a wicked Irish coffee. Next door to the boulangerie Tiffanie in the centre is a cheese and ham shop which will prepare you a platter for the raclette or fondue for 10 euros per person. We ordered for three people and couldn't finish it between four. Really nice apartments, hard to beat in a ski resort.

I’m afraid this is a sorry tale of very poor customer service, zero empathy and a feeling that I have been ripped off.
I booked an apartment last minute for 2 people on 4th March 2022, to arrive on 11th March 2022. I did this by email with the team at CGH Reine des Pres. Importantly, they did not ask if I wanted insurance, little did I know this at the time.
On 6th March I tested positive for COVID (an official government PCR test), meaning the trip has had to be cancelled. Absolutely gutted, I got in contact with the team at Reine des Pres, who told me that I needed to contact the booking team. I contacted the booking team in Annecy and they told me to contact the team at the Reine des Pres. The booking team in Annecy told me that they thought that I shouldn’t be refunded as I didn’t buy the insurance. I told them that I wasn’t offered insurance. They told me that this is strange as I should have been and told me that I should contact the team at Reine des Pres who I booked through. When I described that I had paid them €1,104 just 5 days ago for a service that I would no longer receive through no fault of my own, I asked whether this sounded fair. The person I spoke to agreed that this sounded very unfair, but could not help me (despite speaking with her manager). Computer says no.
I have re-contacted the team at Reine des Pres, but I’m still waiting for a response. Having paid €1,104 only a few days ago for an apartment I am not going to be able to use in 2 days time, is pretty soul destroying. Couple that with the fact that this could have been avoided if I were offered the insurance option (which I certainly would have taken in the current environment) and it feels that I am being punished for an error that was not made by me.
I have all the evidence I need in email correspondence and have raised a payment dispute with my credit card, but the whole experience has not been pleasant.
It’s stress that I do not need as I am in bed with COVID, barely able to speak, with a very painful sore throat and a bad cough.
I am still hopeful that CGH will do the fair and right thing, but let’s see…

Spent week after Xmas here to ski grand massif. Had been to the area before and stayed in the excellent neige et roc but it was full. Plus points: the fabric of the development is excellent, modern apartments and our 3 bed duplex was fresh and new and very clean on arrival. Negatives: a nanny state set up with heating temperature and tv volumes restricted and issues with utilities such as regular power trips, intermittent wifi and inconsistent hot water every day (the place was full). The spa area was excellent but overrun with screaming and badly behave children and bizarrely entry and exit to the pool area is through double side locked changing areas - if they are full you can't get in our out ! Apartment also had new kitchen equipment throughout but no instructions to use anything. When leaving we had to have a room inspection and then were escorted from the apartment presumably in case we sold the tea spoons ! Could be good but there are better options at this price in my opinion.

I went here in a group with 2 children under the age of two and it was fantastic. The apartment we had was really clean and spacious - room for a travel cot in each bedroom. The kitchen was small (in 2 bed apartment) but more than adeqaute, really very well equiped with utensils, dishwasher, microwavwe, oven etc etc. we were able to cook for every night with no troubles. Also they provided the travel cots and highchairs for the children all free of charge.
The complex itself was lovely, again very clean and the communial area very spacious with comfy sofas and big fire. The pool is better than it looks in the pictures, large enough for lenghts but also fun for children. There are two jacuzzi's, steam rooms and sauna's which means there is plenty of room in the early evening rush period.
The location is fantastic, short walk on the flat to both the slopes and village. Can easily get to both without needing the ski bus. Heated ski and boot room with boot warmers was lovely to start your day skiing.
Really really pleased with it and we are seriously considering making it our regular ski base as Samoens is a lovely base with lots of good intermediate skiing.

This property is in a great location if you do not have a car, it is a 5 minute walk from the lift and 5 mins from town. We would recommend that you hire your ski gear from Roland Gay then you have an option of renting a ski locker at the top of the lift which means no lugging your ski gear and walking in ski boots everyday, great if you have kids, it made such a difference to our holiday.
The Chalet is comfortable and quite compact but a 6 person was perfect for a family of 3/4 but would be cramped for 6.
There was only a few negatives for us, we arrived at 1pm and although we were told that reception opened at 4pm, we did not quite realise that we would not be able to access the building or store our luggage so we had to take all our luggage into town with Kids in tow and it was freezing. This could have been communicated better and a storage facility would have helped.

The Spa is really nice but the swimming pool is just not warm enough and the hot tubs are not hot enough so this could have been improved. The sauna and steam were both lovely.

If you like to eat out at night and it is peak season, ensure you book your restaurants in advance otherwise you will not get in.

All in all we had a lovely stay.

We stayed at La Reine des Pres on our ski vacation. It was exactly as described, clean, comfortable close to the city but also within walking distance to the ski lift. The swimming pool with jacuzzi and sauna was clean and great after a day of skiing. The lobby was welcoming and the staff was always pleasant and helpful. All staff spoke English and although perhaps not 100% fluent we had no challenges getting our point across. There is a bread service however it is delivered at 8 am so if you need to get your kids to ski lessons it is tight. The boulangerie opens at 6:30 so we ended up buying our own so we could still enjoy the french croissants in the morning. We were in the main building and had an apartment for 6 people even though we were with 4. It was spacious and the kitchen really well stocked (even had a slow cooker!). I would recommend this to families and groups.

We stayed for a week at this residence and was quite glad our apartment was ready at 2pm when we arrived on a Saturday. On 3 previous ski trips with Crystal at different accommodation, we had to wait and hang around in the lobby with skis, luggages and family until 6 pm when apartments were 'supposedly' ready so checking in straight away was already an improvement from previous ski trips. Reception and manager were lovely people. Pierre at reception was very helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble.

The apartments were lovely and clean- spacious bedrooms and lounge with substantial furnishings. The showers were okay, hot water on demand but the loo did need a bit of improvement. However, they did provide cleaning materials good for first few days of stay.

Kitchen was well equipped, a few little things missing which we informed reception and it was replaced promptly by housekeeping. However, there was no area to prep food or cupboard space to store your own shopping.

Spa, gym and pool area with the sauna and hammam was good. We would give it 5 star rating except for the fact that there were no private showers in the pool area and towels for use in the pool was not provided for residents free of charge. Spa treatments were a bit dear for what they are.

Ski room was well equipped, spacious and always warm - better than any of the ski rooms we've used before. Wifi service was a bit limited- we were given 2 wifi connections even though there were 4 of us in the party but a quick trip to reception solved that and we didn't have to pay for extra connection. Wifi connection is erratic at a time when everyone else in the building is using it at the same time. This is something they need to improve as well.

We borrowed a DVD player and a pierrade machine while we were there. They also had Wii and other things at reception that you can borrow for the duration of your stay.

The location was brilliant with magnificent views of the mountains and close to centre of village and the ski lift. The local Sherpa round the corner is open all day with friendly staff. La Fandioleuse, a tiny creperie just off the main thoroughfare in the village centre is a must -visit!

Ski buses run regularly but would be better if they stop outside or near the apartments. Samoens itself is a beautiful base for a ski holiday with lovely walks in and around the area. Would definitely recommend staying here and we will definitely be back.
