We had booked our rooms in hotel Edelweiss for the final night of our 5-day walking holiday along the GR5.
The hotel is situated just outside the centre of Samoëns, and offers very nice views over Samoëns and the mountains to the south of it.
The hotel’s restaurant served us a very good meal. By the way: it has a nice balcony for lunches and outdoor dining.
As we had to leave very early in the morning (06:45hrs) to catch our train, the owner made sure to set up a simple breakfast for us to have.

To cut a long story short, between Christmas and New Year we needed to stay in Samoens for a couple of extra nights. The Hotel Edelweiss was close to where we were staying and we were able to check in (dog included) without any fuss. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt very welcomed by Michelle and her family and staff. Contrary to previous reviews, Michelle and all of the staff we met spoke excellent English but hopefully appreciated our attempts at speaking French (we were after all in France!). Our family room was clean and spacious with fabulous views over the valley. Meals are taken in a lovely dining room and service is excellent. On our first evening we were unable to get into the village due to snow and so Michelle very kindly accommodated us with a fantastic fondue meal. We all wished we could have stayed longer and should we return to Samoens (which I hope we do) we would have no hesitation to stay at The Hotel Edelweiss again. Thank you very much Michelle, family and team.

My wife and I stayed there for one night in February. As late bookers we were not given one of the best rooms but it was quite adequate, clean and functional. We found that the double bed was small but, to be fair, we are used to a King size bed. The staff were both helpful and friendly and, contrary to one of the reviews, they did speak a little English. It would have been a welcome benefit to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but most hotels in France don't. We spoke to some British people who had been staying on a half-board basis for a week and they were very pleased with their accommodation and with the food. We only had one dinner at the hotel but it was very good; breakfast was excellent - especially the wonderful fresh croissants, the baguettes and remarkably good mountain honey. This hotel is not over-priced when compared with the high-season going rates generally and the half-board deals on offer seemed to present good value. Staying there one does need a car and winter tyres are a must if there has been heavy snow fall.

I had 2 nights booked at this hotel and unfortunately due to delays with my flight and a slow journey from the airport I was later than expected - getting to the hotel at midnight on a Friday evening.

To my astonishment the hotel would not let me in! I spoke with hotel staff on the phone a number of times and explained the situation but they said that the reception closed at 9pm and would not let me in, despite having paid in advance and having nowhere else to stay.

You could maybe understand them being unhappy at a guest arriving late, but they could have let me in and we could have sorted it out in the morning. To leave a guest outside with nowhere to stayin this circumstance was unnecessary and I think a nasty thing to do.

I was very lucky I managed to contact a friend who was also in the area and eventually got to his chalet to stay the night. What if the client had been someone without a car or elderly people left at midnight in a remote location in the Alps in winter at 1600m? The consequences could have been serious.

To make matters worse, the hotel still charged me to stay that night (they had my credit card details to guarantee the booking) and I have been unable to recover the money from them.

I did stay in the hotel the second night as they were going to charge me for that whether I stayed or not. Room was small and bed uncomfortable. Breakfast was adequate.

I notice from other reviews this is not an isolated incident. I would advise staying against staying at this hotel as in the Alps there is always the risk that you will be delayed arriving due to travel conditions and you may be left without anywhere to stay.

We stopped at the Hotel Edelweiss just for one night on our way to Chamonix. It was a last minute decision and one we were very glad of too!
The owner of the Hotel was very helpful and welcoming. Our family room was very pretty (typical mountain chalet room with a maisonette) and clean. Also, the view from our balcony was amazing.
The night we Rrived, the landlady made a couple of phone calls for us looking for a table in a restaurant as it was too late to eat at the Hotel. Overall, a very good experience and a Hotel I would very happily go back to!

Spent a week here with my family at half-term and had a great time. It's a fifteen minute hike up the hill from the village but as a result of its elevated position it has a great view across the valley floor and of the mountains on the other side.
The bedrooms were warm and the water was hot. We shared our room with one teddy bear.
The reception / lounge area was cosy and the dining area homely with 249 teddies all over the place.
We chose half-board and weren't disappointed. The breakfast was fine with cereals, meats / cheeses, croissants, cake, juice, tea and coffee etc.
The evening meals were fantastic with home-made regional specialities.
All in all a great place to stay.
Downsides:
1. Don't bother going out after dinner; the walk up the hill's a nightmare after a couple of glasses of wine.
2. There are 249 teddies and not 247 as per website.
3. You may be sent to bed after 10pm if you're hanging around the reception / lounge area (unless you go out of course).

We booked one night here, and left before breakfast to head over the alps. Pricing was lower than other options, and i'd say the value is about right. It's a friendly, basic place to stay, in this friendly, basic village.

The hotel is not an easy walk from town, well - easy directions, but uphill quite a walk. Driving and parking wasn't my favourite thing to spend time doing. Good wifi.

It's very traditional (dated traditional, not authentic regional traditional), there are hundreds of teddy bears, everywhere, a gorgeous fireplace in the lobby.

I had 6 days booked at this hotel via booking.com. unfortunately my son was taken ill, had an emergency operation, and couldn't travel for six weeks. This occurred two weeks before stay. I rang to explain and the man could not have been less interested an put the phone down. I rang again, and he told me to 'go away English, rung booking.com' they tried to contact the hotel but they too eventually gave up. I didn't expect all of the money back (£600) but a compromise would have been fair..I'm sure they cold fill the room at this time of year with over two weeks to go. I have sent them numerous polite emails and have received nothing back. Have to say in many years of travel I have never experienced anything like it. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

I stayed in the Edelweiss for 3 nights with three friends on a weekend snowboarding trip in March 2016.

Overall the stay was great, rooms were clean and tidy, decorated in a typically alpine way (albeit a bit random having teddy bears everywhere you look). Some things could do with a smarten up, but for the price you pay that's to be expected.

It's a 10 minute walk into Samoens, and a good 15 minute walk back up the hill for the return journey. I didn't have an issue with the hill, but can appreciate it would not be ideal for anyone with young children or those who are less able to walk (they would certainly need to a car!).

We received mixed service from the staff as the lady working on reception during the day was very friendly and helpful, but the lady who ran the breakfast was less so, as was the gentleman who appeared later in the day. Nothing offensive, just a bit grumpy looking really and the odd smile wouldn't go a miss.

Breakfast was good, a selection of cheese, pastries, cold meats etc......but it did make me chuckle at the reaction I received for daring to take two croissants (a tut and roll of the eyes). The next morning we were ushered to a table where a croissant each was already laid out, and there were no more croissants to be seen on the main buffet table. I presume this was done so we couldn't eat more than our allocation, a bit petty but not the end of the world.

Overall I enjoyed my stay here, had a great weekend snowboarding, and would book the Edelweiss again. It's more budget than luxury, but that's what we expected and paid for.

Traditional Alpine chalet hotel on the mountain just outside the town, overlooking the valley with the road to the Col de Joux Plane just behind. Good value/quality half board (local regional specialities for evening meal). Nice service and good hosts.

The rooms look refurbished against the photos on the website - we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and cleanliness. We had a lovely view of the valley (most rooms seem to have a good view) and the beds were extremely comfortable. As it is a wooden chalet-style building, the noise tends to travel between rooms but this is to be expected. The in-room wifi was free and fast.

We had a lovely tartiflette for dinner as part of the half board menu, followed by meurtilles (blueberries) with ice cream and chantilly cream. Breakfast was fairly basic but good quality continental with fresh bread, croissants, jams, fruit salad, yoghurt and local cheese/hams. Plenty to kick off the day.

Would definitely return to the hotel again - it was a good stay and properly relaxing.
