Although it looks very nice, and I look forward to staying at this hotel in the future, a not fully healed back injury caused me to have to cancel for now. I missed the ‘free cancellation’ deadline due to confusion with the 1 hour time difference, but contacted the hotel, and was extremely relieved to hear back from them very promptly, explaining that my cancellation fee would be thankfully waivered. This clearly shows me the quality of customer service provided, and I look forward to a (hopefully soon) future stay at Balcon De L’Alpe. Thank you.

We've been using the VTF association locations for over 10 years now and this is one of the better ones, even is Alpe D'Huez isn't my favourite ski resort.

The rooms are very clean and actually quite spacious. Beds are hard.

Bathroom amenities are basic but VTFs are not about luxury. Bathroom was clean and felt newly refurbished. The shower was a walk-in with great pressure, and plenty of hot water. I think showers over baths are a 1970s throwback and believe the majority of hotel rooms could dispense with the bathrub altogether, as this one seems to have done. Why not have, say, 10% of rooms with baths and let people specify they want a bathtub on reservation?

Overall the hotel is very clean and fresh. Rooms are in three separate buildings away from the main one with the bar, restaurant, reception etc.

Food was generally ok but soups and a few other dishes were pretty tasteless.

Bar area is very pleasant.

Downsides: no lifts, and our room was on the 5th floor. That's a real pain with luggage. And there is virtually no parking at the building so it's a real pain as you have to unload your stuff and then drive up into town to park.

The hotel is a bit of a walk from the slopes.

The biggest gripe is the Jurassic-era wifi. I have never had wifi in any hotel in my life as slow as this. It is apparently a 1Mb connection - for over 100 guests! This means a simple web page - honestly - takes over 2 minutes to load. This was useless and felt worse than dial-up 15 years ago. Where does a hotel actually get a 1Mb connection these days? Villagers in Somalia would complain at that. Worse than useless.

Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Highlight of the hotel is the spa, which really wouldn't be out of place in a hotel at twice the price. Great steam room, sauna and jacuzzi with views on the mountains. An excellent way to relax after a day's skiing.

All in all, recommended.

Advantage of a small, warm and friendly establishment. Friendly and good-willed staff team despite perhaps a lack of professionalism, a "big up" for the children's club 6 to 12 years old

The accommodation for us was very good, spacious disabled accommodation on the ground floor.
The accommodation was clean, apart from dust on the curtains and a few stains on the furniture.
We noticed a total absence of coat rack in the room.
The building is not well insulated and quite noisy if holidaymakers think they are alone.
No soap in the bathroom, a shame, but its absence increases the lack of hygiene and the risk of easily transmitted diseases. If the argument is for ecology in this case you might as well replace the radiators which are old toasters, moreover, with no window opening sensors. Those who are not careful heat the outside!

At the restaurant level, lack of heating, dishes not always clean, limited starter buffets and limited and repetitive desserts.
Too bad about the desserts, when we know that desserts are an important point in an establishment just like the toilets when judging the quality of a restaurant, what does the Chef think?
The dishes were quite varied apart from certain products (diots) ironed in different forms. Surprising product shortage like yogurt even though it is a basic product. No ice cream for children.
Over a week, burned products such as various vegetables (e.g. broccoli)
Average quality of products, we never enjoyed ourselves and a lack of variety of pastries for breakfast.
Servers who come to steal and eat directly from the buffets during service, shocking!
The restaurant is far from being full but we feel a lack of organization and efficiency, things are going around in circles, forgetting dishes and trays.
Some servers spray cleaning products on the salt and pepper shakers to clean the tables.
Behind the kitchen doors, obvious disorder, jackets lying around and the like, etc., which indicates a lack of seriousness and obvious control from management.

I did not see any people washing or sanitizing their hands before serving at the buffets.
I was sick, a gastrointestinal illness not necessarily linked to the kitchen but perhaps to the vacationers.

Disappointing entertainment despite the efforts of the host, a theater with one and only one show during the week Otto the Clown which the children loved.
Organization of a children's fair at 8:30 p.m.!? misunderstanding... Putting your children's makeup on at 9 p.m. before going to bed doesn't necessarily seem very logical.
A fair organized without the children's club leaders, too bad.

Crepe entertainment at 6 p.m. why not at 5 p.m., this time would seem more appropriate for a snack and an après-ski

The SPA is good although the jacuzzi can cause flooding in the children's area located below if it is used incorrectly.

Malfunction of the hammam the first 3 days, after complaint we are informed of an oversight then in the end we learn that it is to save money! So nice to be taken for fools.

The common areas are of average maintenance, I was able to check the private laundry room of our building which was in great disorder. I called the technical service for a clogged sink on the first or second day, the technician came the next day but was unable to intervene following our presence. I asked him to come back 15 minutes later, he never came back all week. Another sign of lack of seriousness.

the club is far from the slopes, 300 meters, if you make 2 round trips you will have more than 1km of walking with your skis on your back.
The resort is good but almost too big which makes it lose its charm with this mass tourism. A plus, numerous slopes and a large ski area with efficient ski lifts.

We have done several VTFs, this one is the one we liked the least, our opinion is mixed. There are positives and negatives but unfortunately it seems that the negatives outweigh it.

We do not intend to repeat this in this establishment.

Overall good, could do better.
The plates for the main course should be heated beforehand.
At the start of the stay, the staff is a little confused (new arrivals??)
The duvet is not wide enough.

Accustomed to the VTF, it does not correspond to the image of the others and the disappointment prevails despite a good welcome at the reception upon our arrival and from the staff.
3 independent buildings with the restaurant to accommodate without elevators!
At times it is cold in the rooms or in the restaurant. The soundproofing in the rooms is poor and as long as people are noisy you can hear the conversation from the neighboring room. The lack of maintenance of the common areas is glaring, doormats very dirty and cleaning seems rare at the entrance to the buildings where we sleep or to the spa.
In the restaurant, the staff is willing but the food has little taste, either overcooked or average.
At the bar there is a lack of cleanliness, also sticky cards, dirty glasses.
At the Spa there is also a maintenance problem, only one shower works with cold water, Hamman broken, not always light in the changing rooms...
For skiing, possibility of storing skis and boots near the shepherd if you want to avoid the busy 300 m to the slopes (3 euros per day)

We came many years, the best years when Fabienne and her team were in the club! Real professionals!
We will not come back, so disappointed, no hygiene, dirty staff, no organization within the club. And the entertainment? There are no more, unfortunately without a real facilitator it is not up to par.
Such a magical place destroyed by incompetent people! To flee.

Thank you to the manager of VTF Alpes d Huez for the family spirit that she inspires in her establishment and her dedication, thank you to all the staff for the kindness and smiling response to each request. The quality/price ratio of this center is remarkable. Spacious rooms (compared to other establishments), hot meals for lunch and dinner. Tables reserved by family (to be re-specified at the start of the stay because some holidaymakers did not have the information), wellness area (jacuzzi, hammam, sauna), 5 minutes walk from the slopes (ideally take care of the equipment when renting for example at Henri Sport Skiset). For very demanding customers, less attracted by the family spirit, aim for 4 or 5 star accommodation with the price accordingly.

Disappointed with the Service, I don't understand the 3 stars. The accommodation lacks comfort, no insulation, we lived with our neighbors for a week. Cleaning of common areas does not exist! The restaurant was unable to provide suitable baby meals despite several requests! Little animation or in any case which did not make you want to participate! On the other hand, a beautiful resort and a big plus for the mini-club and the one who took care of our child: thank you Maeva!
