My partner and I had been living on the streets of France for some time, often under the supermarket in Boulogne. One day we were lucky enough to be rounded up and put in a hotel for the night, and that hotel was Hotel Des Arts.
It is certainly full of character, very dark, creepy. But although terrifying in appearance, the staff were helpful, letting us have cups and boiling water to make tea with. Paying customers can probably expect a bit more than this.
The Hotel is often quite deserted, the lack of paying guests and low cost of the rooms making this the perfect place for the unsightly sans-abri to be hidden for a while.
Although there are funeral parlours more cheerful than this hotel, it is as far as I am aware, the cheapest in Boulogne, which is a fantastic town.

Be warned the Management though helpful was very creepy, this is not a hotel for any woman or small groups of women traveling without a man to stay!!! You have been warned!!!! The room we stayed in was dirty with broken beds and peeling off wall paper/ carpet on the walls. Our only advice is to stay farther up the road in a different hotel!!! More
