This is a wonderful small hotel! It has been in the same family for 107 years..... The welcome is amazingly warm and the food absolutely sensational. If you are planning to ski it is very near to the telecabine, and just a minute's walk from the centre of town and many lovely bars and restaurants. From the back door of the hotel it is literally 1 minute walk to the hot spa. Can't emphasise how wonderful it was to swim outside in the naturally hot water with the snowy mountains behind. Thank you Tomas and the rest of the family! We shall certainly be booking again.
We stayed for two nights in this historic hotel before the high season. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. We had a large room, very nicely furnished. It is a nineteenth century building in the center of the town. A very enjoyable experience, which I highly recommend to visitors to Couterets.
We were walking through the Pyrenees and therefore only stayed one night at the Lion d'Or, but it was a highlight of our trip. We were warmly welcomed by Madame Bernadette, who took the trouble to show us to our room, and didn't even make us take our walking off boots off. The decor of the hotel is interesting and charming, reflecting the history of mountaineering in the Pyrenees. Our room was very comfortable with a great shower, a small fridge and some lovely biscuits. There was a Nespresso machine for coffee, which is a nice touch if you are fussy about your coffee. Our room looked to the back of the hotel, over the Thermes des Rochers, and was very quiet. We had a great sleep. At breakfast we enjoyed fresh bread, home made cake and jam, and plenty of other delights. It was delicious. We love the Pyrenees and are sure to be back in Cautherets. When we return, we will definitely stay at the Lion d'Or.…
Ask for room with king size bed and suite with single bed. With elevator to facilitate luggage. Complete amenities and comfort. We opted to eat outside in La Royale restaurant but the in house restaurant also serves food. friendly staff and literally across from famous Thermal Bath of Cauteret. Charming hotel, old fashioned furniture which comes with the theme of the hotel.
This is a charming, family owned and operated old hotel in a perfect location for hiking in this area. Our standard room was small but pleasant and though facing the street, we heard no noise and slept soundly. We spent two nights and enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning. We had dinner here one night and it was tasty and ample. Most importantly, the staff was very attentive, helpful and delighful.
