On the banks of the Rhône, at the gateway to the famous city of the Popes, fall under the charm of the Hôtel La Magnaneraie. Located on the heights of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, our hotel invites you to take a quiet break and enjoy the peace and quiet of our garden and our heated outdoor swimming pool. A former country house, a place for feasting in the 16th century, which became a magnanerie - a silkworm farm - and then a wine estate in the 20th century before finding its hotel vocation in the 1970s, La Magnaneraie joined Najeti Hotels & Golfs Collection in 2000. Since then, the house has been reborn to offer its guests an intimate, warm and refined setting, making the dolce vita of Provence a true art of living. La Magnaneraie now offers a perfect alchemy of tradition and modernity, from the cosy interiors to the fragrant Mediterranean garden with its two 200-year-old plane trees.

On the whole a very good hotel, but with a couple of negatives. On our arrival at 16:00 the room was not ready, there were no curtains or blinds on the bathroom of room 4 that overlooks the main road and the evening food is very limited in selection. On the positives, the hotel pool is very cooling when the air temp is 38 Deg.C, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and breakfast was more than adequate with continental selection as well as sausage, scrambled egg and bacon. The room was very comfortable with a huge double bed. There was an issue with the water in the bathroom. On the Saturday morning only steam came out of the hot taps and on the Sunday there was no water in the morning at all. Reception staff were very apologetic and an emergency plumber did manage to fix the problem.

Great hotel on good location with fantastic breakfast. Hotel is just up the hill in a lovely small town of Villeneuve just across the river from Avignon. The small town is perfect with restaurants and a small grocery store.
We brought our bikes which was a perfect setup.
The Hotel is beautiful set up with a very spacious approach, multiple ground floor common rooms, a massive garden and a huge pool area (which was closed due to cold temperatures in April).
Breakfast was really good, not sure what the other reviews were complaining about.

We had a very good stay at the hotel. the setting and garden were great. the room was good. very big with a huge balcony. we only had a bath no proper shower. not really a problem but would have been nice to have a shower. the only reason i did not give 5 stars is the restaurant was not open. we had bar food which was ok but did want something more substantial. the piano player in the evening bar was really good. the hotel is about 10 mins walk to the main town. all in all a good stay. but about 40 mins walk into Avignon. we got the hop on hop off bus, which stopes near the hotel and this took us right in to the heart of Avignon proper. i would happily recommend this hotel.

The worst value ever. €300 a night for a supposedly luxury room with no fridge, no tea or coffee, thin towels, and a loo so narrow you could not get up from the seat without knocking the loo roll of its holder. When I asked why there was no bottled water in our room after the first day, I was told that they didn't provide it. The wires holding the light to the ceiling were visible. There were no cushions on the cheap plastic chairs on the balcony. I could go on, but this was an experience I want to forget.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location. Huge bed and excellent linen. The bath towels were a bit thin and the shower screen leaked horribly. I mentioned this upon checkout and I’m sure it will be fixed by now. Very nice breakfast and it was so lovely to be able to enjoy it outside in the gardens.

Really good service, and the rooms are at a high standart. Terace at all rooms, i have been staying there 2 times, and i will go there every time im visiting Avignon. You get an old historical vibe, but the rooms and the hotel is so nice. The rooms have really good space.

A very nice hotel in a quite residential area in Villeneuve Le Avignon. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the old city of Avignon. (if you don't get lost). If you have a car it is no problem (parking in Avignon is another issue). We booked two days and decided to stay another night. The price was very reasonable, we paid for 2 rooms for 3 nights 462 euro's.The rooms were recently rennovated. We had one room on ground floor that looked out into a nice garden area. The second room was on the second floor at the back of the hotel - it was the nicer of the rooms and looked out onto the pool. There is a very nice restaurant that looked expensive. The only draw back is you need to drive and park to go into the old city of Avignon. It is next to impossible to park in within the city walls during the day. You can park at the city wall and walk into town. Walking back to you car late at night is a little scarey.

We spent one night here during a week in France and had a very nice stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room wasn't huge but was comfortable. The bathroom had a separate tub and shower. There was complementary parking in the courtyard in front of the building. I have found that the Best Western hotels in Europe are quite charming and have very comfortable beds. One thing to note is that this hotel is actually in the town of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon which is across the river from Avignon. It seemed to be in a quiet residential area and there would be quite a walk to get to town. I did note a bus stop right next to the hotel however.

Stayed 3 nights in March 2005 (at the peak of the Mistral, unfortunately). We were a bit nervous at first, because Best Westerns in the US can be pretty spotty at best these days. La Magnanerie is a lovely old 15th century house turned hotel, with a modern building in the gardens behind it housing more rooms around a very nice pool area. We stayed in the main building overlooking the gardens in a good sized room for two people, with a very large bathroom that included the biggest shower I have seen in Europe so far (not to mention a separate bath). Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and it was easy to find with fairly quick access to downtown Avignon and the highways. It is across the river from Avignon, in Villeneuve lez Avignon, set in a quiet neighborhood about a 10 min walk from the center of the old town. The restaurant at the hotel had a very nice menu, with a prix fixe option at around 50 euros that was quite good. Standing by the pool in the midst of the 40mph freezing mistral winds, I could envision a very lovely stay during a warmer period of time and I certainly hope to get back to enjoy it more. For charm and hospitality at a reasonable price, La Magnanerie is a great spot near Avignon.

We spent one night at the 4* La Magnanaraie recently and found the hotel quite comfortable and attractive. Our room was on the second floor (American third), and because my knee was acting up I asked whether a ground-floor room would be possible. The receptionist not only found such a room but offered us a beautiful, large junior suite for the price of our original booking.

Our room had a sitting area with sofa and two comfortable chairs, separated by a glass coffee table holding magazines. A pair of French doors and a separate window looked out onto a garden, and we heard no outside noise at all. The bed area was done in shades of blue and white and felt very classically French. The furniture looked to be genuine antiques, and one wall had a very nice, well stocked glass bookcase .

But the thing we liked most about the suite was the spacious bathroom, with all the cabinetry and even tub surround in beautiful dark wood. There were two sinks, a stall shower, and a toilet in a separate good-sized room with its own wash basin. It was all pure luxury.

Our friend had a room on the first floor, smaller but very prettily decorated in green and white. She thought it very comfortable, and I found the décor exceptionally attractive.

The hotel is situated in a 15th-century house with lovely gardens all about and a very nice pool. The large sitting room, with overstuffed chairs, boasts a grand piano; we heard someone playing Rachmaninoff very well in the early evening.

The dining room is very elegant, and the food and service are excellent.

Driving from the hotel to central Avignon takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day, but it's an easy drive. In the hotel's vicinity are the Fort St-André and the lower town, with a fine church.

Hello Is there anything to do outside the hotel? Walks? Restaurants, shops etc? Thanks

I went on a couple of 2-3 Km 'exercise walks' from the hotel. Very pleasant suburban scenery, but I didn't get as far as open countryside. The little town is almost a kilometre downhill, and there are several good cafes and restaurants, including an excellent one at a hotel on the way.

All the rooms we had were pretty similar- some people liked being near the pool however- but the regular rooms were great- we were at the one at the very end of the property which had the advantage of privacy.

Hi There. There are many lovely rooms, but we feel a room in the main old building is best for us, Overlooking the Garden to rear. Hope that helps Paul & Mel
