I felt really at home here. The whole place had a cosy feel and the owners were great: she used to be a teacher and speaks great English, as well as being extremely knowledgable about just about everything. Monsieur is a classic, jovial, genial Frenchman who does everything to help. My car battery went flat, and he just twiddled his...

Several time stayed in this small, family run hotel with friends. The rooms are small with very basic furniture, but with comfy beds and with indoor bathrooms. Our rooms on the 3rd floor were recently renovated, they were very clean. The hotel has an excellent central location right in the center very close to the castle and gardens. They serve...

After telling the hotel we were arriving late, we found the hotel locked, and had to telephone a number to get a code for the front door! The room was extremely cramped, and the bathroom was small. Breakfast was very basic.

We were warmly welcomed to this 18th century building in the historic district. We had a nice clean, bright room (Chambre 8) with a big window overlooking the main streeet with a view of the belfry and a spacious bathroom, for only 62€.

People come to Fougères to see Europe’s largest Medieval castle and the lovely public gardens. But there aren’t a lot of hotel options. We stayed at the Hotel Balzac in March 2016 and were very satisfied. Granted, it’s an older style hotel, with small basic rooms and dated furnishings. But it is clean and comfortable, with a friendly staff and...

Stayed here one night in March, 2016. The hotel was very nicely located within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Parking was a few blocks away but in a locked ramp, so very safe. The castle was the main attraction in the town and was within walking distance. The room was small with a small bathroom, but OK. The breakfast...

Well placed in the historic centre and clearly signed. Owners very helpful and friendly. Room very clean, but small - although perfectly adequate for one night. No air-conditioning, and it was rather hot! Breakfast excellent. Very good value. Good parking arrangement.

The location is everything with this hotel but it was also very welcoming and homely. The rooms are old enough but quite well maintained, clean and reasonably comfortable. We had 2 rooms, one at the back of the hotel and the other at the front across the corridor from each other so we could keep the family close. The front...

The owners of this family-run hotel were very friendly. The interior of the hotel was slightly dated. Our room was decent. There was no air conditioning. There was good wifi signal in the room. Breakfast was ok. We were able to park our car on the street outside the hotel. The hotel is very conveniently located in the town centre....

“Not sure if the chuch bell can be heard from all rooms in the hotel. I chimes thoroughout the night but rings from 6 am, hourly. We were at the front on the 2nd floor.”

“If there are rooms not facing the street these would be a better choice if staying on a Friday night”

“We had a room at the front which overlooks the main street. There was the early morning noise of the market setting up, but to be honest, it added to the experience of being in this charming french town. The church bells mentioned on other reports can be heard from all parts within the hotel, but again, did not aversely effect our stay. They do sound a bit 'tinny' mind you.”
