Rooms are pretty basic but clean and quiet and had everything we needed. Staff was friendly and able to speak some English but were nice enough to let me practice my very rusty French. Free wifi worked well. Location on the one side of the medieval sector gives you proximity to the tourist area and also close enough to walk... More

Comfortable room, large bed. TV had good choice of channels including CNN and BBC. Free parking is 100 meters from hotel. Pharmacy is located between hotel and parking lot. Walking distance to medieval part of city. Hotel breakfast was very basic-coffee, pastry, cheese, juice. City parking lot adjacent to hotel affords easy loading and unloading of baggage.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is located about 75 metres from the start of the historic centre of Sarlat. It is just off the main street and located on an open public carpark which is very handy. One thing to remember is that you need to pay for parking each day after 0900... More

We stayed 3 nights in Sarlat on a Rick Steves Loire and South of France tour. The Hotel Montaigne is quite convenient, and about average for a RS tour hotel. The area in front of the hotel is a municipal parking lot and bus stop, so it is quiet at night. The buses to larger towns do start running fairly... More

We very much enjoyed our three-night stay. I would definitely ask for a room on the third floor (there is a lift). We had asked for a room on the ground floor if no lift, and we were shown one that was quite small and dark and on a back street. We requested a change, which was cheerfully accommodated, and... This hotel is well located on the very edge of the beautiful, old town center of Sarlat. We were able to park for free just a block away in a public lot. The room on the 4th floor (3rd floor by the French system) was small and unfortunately the window was very small, too, which made the room feel a... More

We stayed at this hotel because it was selected by Rick Steves for a tour of the Loire and Southern France conducted by Arnaud. The owners watched all of the tour participants like hawks when we were in the breakfast room. They complained to Arnaud when they saw some participants take a cup of coffee or a glass of orange... We drove and got free parking next to the hotel the 2 days we stayed there. The owner was very helpful in suggesting attractions. Walking distance to excellent restaurants and shops. Be sure to ask for one password for each device. I didn't know this and was frustrated at first because we have 3 devices - iphone, ipad and laptop.... More

Your first impression as you walk in to check into the hotel is oh God where am I styaing? The hallways as you are getting into the room also have dingy carpets, the rooms are clean with crisp sheets and clean towels , the location is great, so my question would be to the owners as to why not update... Ideally situated, I was a little apprehensive about the 2* rating but couldn't have been more wrong. A warm, enthusiastic welcome, clean, cheerful room and powerful air con. What more do you need? A great find, just on the edge of centre ville.
