A smile always awaits you every time you meet them. They are very accommodating in every way. Communication is not a problem as both owners (Sisters) speaks English well.
Kudos to the Staff and Owner of Ban Chunsongsang Home Stay.
I'll be back.... Cheers!
Side note for foodie types who want to learn Thai desserts in particular: the only other way to truly learn Thai desserts with an English speaker is through professional cooking schools. Meh. I'd rather visit Nong again. A good 6 hours and a whole lot of amazing information. This is really one-of-a-kind and I am lucky and thankful that Nong could accommodate me on such short notice. I'll be back when I am in town to keep learning more.
We then asked Nong of what's best to do in our 2nd day. We were torn between going to the Elephant Jungle Paradise Park, a trip to Chiang Rai, or Doi Inthanon. Nong was very accommodating, patiently explaining to us the advantages of each situation/tour. We were so undecided (because of the limited time we have at Chiang Mai) that it took us almost an hour to decide. It was already 10pm that we decided to just go to Elephant Jungle Paradise Park. (If you already have plans, just ask Nong the best tour package of where you want to go. No regrets).
Then we settled in our very cozy 'cottage'. It was when we realized that we made the right decision to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was very quiet. Just...perfect. Perfect for such getaway.
2nd Day. We took our breakfast at around 7am, because we will be picked up at 7:40am by the Elephant Jungle Paradise Park tour guide. It was surprising that the people who prepared our dinner so late yesternight, was up already to prepare our breakfast. We then met our fellow 'guests' who are also staying at the Homestay.
After the AMAZING ELEPHANT DAY for us (no regrets in choosing this tour package for our second day!), we went to the Sunday Market. We were also picked up by Koko at 8pm to take us back to the Homestay. So hassle free :)
Then again, we were late for dinner but they still managed to cook for us! And you know what, because we are not able to make it to the Lantern Festival (which is on November 25), they offered us a Lantern to float ourselves (just to have a taste of it). Nong explained what the lantern is for and why do we float them. They let us experience it, it was unforgettable. Not just floating the lantern, but the warm and sincere hearts of Nong and Koko. I really felt that that night.
3rd day we went on biking. They have these Bicycles for rent! There was a guide, a map, stating loops or like routes of where you can bike around. Buuuut, the very small sense of direction we have, we were lost! After an hour we found ourselves back to the Homestay. We said our goodbyes to Nong and family after breakfast. Before Koko took us to the Handicrafts in the local area (we went to Umbrella Factory, Wood Carving, and the Gem store), it was out of the plan but along the way in the local municipality, there were people who are harvesting 'rice grains'. Koko suggested if we want to try, and we said yes!
It was a very short time, but a very meaningful one. We went to Chiang Mai as tourists, but Nong and Koko's family felt like we stayed at our Second Family. It was more than just a homestay, but a Second Home.
I hope to return a second time around at Chiang Mai. And there's no doubt that I will stay at Ban Chunsongsang. It was more than just an accommodation, but the experience, the warmth of a home!
The distance never affected us because Nong was able to provide transportation and tours.
We stayed for 5 days and were treated as if we were part of the family. We have children ages 8 and 6 and they never wanted for things to explore.
I can't say enough...I missed it the second we left!
I Love...
the hosts - Nong and Family are Super extremely Fantastic, informative, nice, friendly and speak great english
the huts - cozy, clean, comfortable, innovative with the self-invented "Air-condition"
the surrounding - peaceful, educative, interesting with the dogs surrounding barking sound system
Overall - Very lucky to locate Ban CSS and will definitely go back again for my next trip. This homestay is NOT TO BE MISSED and they are probably one of the best homestay owner i ever met. There is no better way to know more about Chiangmai other than staying with the locals. Sweet little touch in the hut will brighten up your day...
We were able to reserve online and communicate with Nong over email to organize details. We enjoyed taking the bikes around the village and exploring some of the local handcrafts. While we were gone, Nong and her family prepared a delicious homemade khantoke dinner. The food was amazing, but even more special was sitting with Nong throughout dinner and talking with her about her family, Thai traditions, etc. You can tell she and her family truly care about their guests! Be sure to request the khantoke dinner beforehand in your reservation. Truly one of the highlights of our trip.
The home stay was quiet and peaceful. We only stayed one night, so although there wasn't much to do in the immediate area, this was not a problem for us. We highly recommend any travelers of all ages to visit.
