I decided on a whim to take the day off and get away from all the hussel&bussel of work... ended up finding The Plett Game Reserve. I went on a game drive and all I can say is WOW! I could almost reach out and touch the wild life. Thank goodness the preditors were seprate to the rest of the...

We had a truly special stay at The Baroness. The beautiful setting coupled with friendly and helpful staff made this an unforgetable experience. We had our first nights dinner served on the boma's deck overlooking the pond, beautiful! On cool nights fires are lit throughout including your room if you require. Meals are substantial and kitchen staff were happy to...

I was expecting a lot more. As a local South African, this is definitely not luxurious and was very expensive for what we got. The room was basic but comfortable, although some of the finishes were not great at all (shower was useless and hot water was finished if the other rooms had used the bath/shower before us). The food...

Was a bit skeptical after I read some of the bad comments from a while back, but still wanted to experience this Game Reserve for myself. The Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve is under new management and that you can definitely see. We were greeted with the biggest smiles and felt very welcomed. We first went on a game drive, Evans;...

We absolutely loved the Baroness with so many classic features from the past--huge yellowwood plank floors, wooden couches held together with metal straps, historic photographs from the 40s--there are surprises at every turn. The rooms are elegant---ours had 3 couches surrounding the fireplace. Couldn't resist pacing off the bedroom, more than 600 square feet. The staff are delightful. We can...

We weren't sure what to expect but what a fabulous room we had! The views were just out of this world - where else could you open your curtains at 7 am to find hippos coming out of the pond? The game safari is maybe a tad sanitised compared with Kruger say, but for a first taste of African wildlife...

Our family (from Michigan, USA) loved their time here. We only stayed two nights with the friendly staff but if we'd had more time I would have happily stayed a third night before moving down the coast on our Garden Route Tour. We did the driven safari as well as the pony version. Both were great activities for a couple...

When you arrive the place has the feel of a large farm. The only 'wild' animal not in an enclosure are hippos, so you get a drive round to see buck, giraffe, hornless hippo and of course lots of cows. As there are no predators running free these animals act like they don't have a care in the world. You...

The Baroness is by no means a luxurious lodge. There is no management and it is clear that the place is run on a minimal Budget. However you pay top rate to stay! I booked the dinner, bed & breakfast option. Dinner was an absolute DISGRACE of a single chicken breast with green beans and a heavy portion of rice....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our beautiful Plett Accommodation is a historic and charming colonial-style Safari Lodge that was built in early 1800 by Baron Joachim von Plettenberg, an early South African pioneer and conservationist, who used the original, smaller Lodge as his base to explore the then untamed African landscapes. Built from local stone, the Safari Lodge has lost little of its original 'out of Africa' feel and has spectacular views across rolling lawns where zebra and antelope roam freely, to the indigenous forests and majestic Tsitsikamma mountains in the distance. ... more   less
