Named after the hill tribe village called 'Lisu', settling nearby the lodge, Lisu Lodge is an eco-friendly hill tribe lodge in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. It is part of a community-based project that aims to conserve the natural heritage of hill tribes of northern Thailand. Built in traditional Lisu style with an eye for western comforts, the lodge overlooks the lush fields and hills surrounding the valley. We offer a wide variety of packages, from day visits to multiple overnights, including hill tribe experiences, soft adventure (cycling and white water rafting) and trekking. Our prices include accommodation in comfortable king-size or twin bedded rooms with en-suite bathrooms, electric fans (non air-conditioned), meals and drinks as specified in the programs, as well as English speaking tour guides / local Lisu guides.

Different experience, very basic accomodation, food was fine. We were in a group with multiple rooms all sharing a main outdoor meal area. No TVs or refrigerators in the rooms, no shoes allowed (left outside), rooms Basic but comfortable. Breakfast is preordered (really yummy) and the staff were good. Has wifi which worked well for us.

We just checked out of the Lisu Lodge where we stayed for one night enroute to our resort in Chiang Mai. We are so glad that we made this small detour. The lodge is small, quaint and so peaceful. Everyone who works there is so gracious and accommodating. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The walls are paper thin, but it is nothing that a quiet white noise on an app can’t overcome. The food was authentic and delicious. Highly recommend a bamboo raft ride and tea plantation tour. At night the villagers come and do a local dance, get up and join them. It’s a great way to end the day!

Lisu Lodge consists of 5-6 traditional bamboo houses with 5-6 double rooms each. Breakfast & dinner us being served on a large terrace sitting at low tables. The whole area is in a small park next to rice fields + The lodge supports the local Lisu ethnic group and the village next to the lodge and thereby implements sustainable and eco standards + Authentic setting + Great to relax and to get away from modern distractions - Lisu lodge (managed by Asian Oasis) is a distination popular among some luxury travel agencies offering a „once in a life time experience“. The prices reflect this. We stayed 2 nights (half board for 11.000THB = 300€). Optional activities can be expensive and add another 100-200€. - Lack of transparency: When I give a financial donation to support an ethnic group anywhere in the world I expect a minimum level of feedback/reporting. In the case of Lisu Lodge I am paying a premium price which includes an unknown amount to support a local ethnic group. @ Asian Oasis: Be more transparent what percentage ultimately flows to the Lisu people and what projects have been financed (e.g. a photovoltaic power station next to the temple). Your clients will feel better when paying the premium price - We needed a transportation to the lodge for about 10km. The management offered a ride from Chiang Mai for about 60€. We organized it on our own for just 8€.

We stayed at Lisu Lodge for two nights and it was a great experience. Basic but clean and food all freshly prepared and served. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We visited the local village and had a day trip cycling and white water rafting. It’s truly peaceful and although it rained a lot it didn’t detract from the beautiful surroundings.

Lisu Lodge is a beautiful place. It’s a collection of immaculately constructed bamboo lodges set in picturesque grounds, in the stunning Thai hills. The rooms are surprisingly comfortable - you take your shoes off before going up the steps into the lodge, and the woven bamboo floor is lovely underfoot. There’s no air conditioning, but with a fan and the air circulation through and around the building, it wasn’t needed at all - we all slept very well. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need (a good en-suite for example). And it’s fun being in such a different environment! Plus it’s all so well-kept - really clean and well-maintained, from the buildings to the pretty gardens. We also had some fantastic food, including our best meal so far in Thailand. It’s well-judged with a range of options and heat-levels, so me and my husband (who love spicy food) and our 8 year old (less keen) were all happy. And it was a great experience eating on Thai floor cushions around a low table on our lodge verandah. For lunch and dinner we were served a range of options (for example dinner was chicken green curry, a mince stir fry, pork ribs, eggs in tamarind, a soup with meatballs, and rice, followed by fruit and banana in coconut milk from their own gardens). For breakfast you could choose American (eggs, bacon, toast), healthy (fruit, yogurt and an incredible toasted granola), or Thai. And it was all delicious! But the best thing about it was the care and attention of the staff. You could really feel the effort they made to make us feel welcome and comfortable, as well as in looking after the property. I’m so pleased we decided to come - it’s been one of the highlights of our holiday. And we really enjoyed our rafting trip on the local river while we were here - stunningly beautiful, with (small, not too scary) sections of white water interspersed with calmer sections drifting past friendly picnicking Thai families. All of Thailand has suffered with the lack of tourists due to Covid - I really hope Lisu Lodge gets the visitors it deserves very soon. We would definitely come back!Highly recommended.

It is a little daunting when you first arrive at the lodge to see the basic bamboo huts. However, on seeing the rooms and the communal seating area I was won over. The rooms were very clean and the bed amazingly comfortable. I had a fantastic nights sleep, it was so quiet and tranquil. The bathrooms come with toiletries and towels. The bamboo walls are quite thin, which can be a problem if you have neighbours that move about. I was part of a tour, and although I slept really well in my hut, one of the group was kept awake by a noisy neighbour. We had a lovely meal in the evening and a show of dancing by the 'tribe'. In the morning we had a tour of the farm, where they grow a lot of their own herbs and vegetable. We then went around the village area.

This was a wonderful experience! The peaceful and tranquil environment is great to be in. They grow most of the food they use themselves and the staff that works on the lodge is from the local village. Part is the profit they are making is shared with the local community. They have more of these projects in Thailand. The food is great and the staff that serves you are very friendly and helpful. There different activities you can do here. Not all the travel agents have adapted the descriptions on their own website. So, please get your info of the website of the Lodge itself, otherwise you might get disappointed in terms of what you expected and what is available. The management is very helpful in making your stay comfortable.

We spent 2 nights here, it was a really lovely place, I knew it was going to be basic accommodation but it was clean and a very large comfortable bed, whilst here we had a cookery lesson which was fun we were instructed on how to make a soup , Thai curry and pineapple rice, the food we produced we ate for dinner that night which was delicious! Feedback to the lodge would be to print off recipe cards so you could cook the dishes at home, we also had a tour of the village and went to a tea plantation, which was also fascinating. There is an Elephant nature reserve very close by which is an absolute must, the work they do with the rescued Elephants is amazing. I wouldn’t recommend the white wine it was about £32 and was meant to be Pinot Grigio. It was truly shocking.

I live in Chiang Mai and spend a lot of time with the Karen in Doi Inthanon. I took my parents there hoping for an authentic experience with the Lisu tribe. The architecture and gardens are beautiful but there is nothing authentic about the experience. All staff is Thai. We only had a 2mn dance with Lisu people who looked bored out of their brain and asked to be paid for this really bad dance. Nothing from the heart. It looked like they had been forced to be there. The next day we had a tour of the village planned. The village is awfully dirty and everybody we met seemed angry and unhappy. This was a huge contrast to the usual experience I have with hill tribe people. There is something very weird going on there. If you are looking to experience real hill tribe life, do not go there. If you just want to stay in a beautiful setting then maybe. But then it is VERY EXPENSIVE for what it is. So I would not recommend this place and will not take any more guests there.

its basic, but that's what you would expect. i thought it would be sooooo hot in bed, but the fan was more than sufficient. a spot of "super size me bugs" diving in the night, but this soon dies down when the lights go off. the dancing was a bit odd, just throw yourself into and join in -it might make them smile?? the food was basic but local, just go with it. it was tasty. the communal living/eating area is lovely. you might meet other guest there, have massage, play games (they could do with a pack of cards). we had a few drinks. the beer and gin was fine. not sure about he wine!!!! we did the 13km cycling in 45 degrees. now picture the scene 13 stone. 13 km, mid day sun......it wasn't pretty! however, the trip was interesting (sometimes hideous), the tea plantation was fantastic. picking and making green tea. its a must. cycling with the local kids was funny. i must confess i didn't cycling the last horrific hill, so hopped on the truck spot of lunch, then white water rafting. this was not too fast. infact just perfect our guide was interesting and most supportive (especially with my cycling effort) akha village - would give that a miss! my overriding emotion in lisu was a whirlwind adventure or fun, no tv, limited lighting and peace. we should all stay here and probably just for one night!
