Hotel La Locanda is located in the historic center of Volterra, near Porta Fiorentina and the Roman theater; in a few minutes, you can walk to the main places of interest in the historic center. Our Hotel has been converted from an ancient monastery. Owner of the building in the second half of the eighteenth century was Anton Filippo Giachi, historian and expert on the Etruscan civilization, remembered with a plaque at the entrance of the Hotel. During his stay he wanted affixed on the facade of the building some Etruscan cinerary vases, the covers and the boxes of funeral urns of the Hellenistic age with depictions of fantastic animals and underworld scenes, fruit of the excavation campaigns he himself conducted. Choosing to stay at La Locanda therefore means establishing a close encounter with the history and cultural testimonies of an evocative city like Volterra, whose origins are lost in the mists of time.

Beautifully run hotel in the heart of Volterra. Bathroom was large with a jetted tub/shower combination. It was not easy getting into the tub as it was deep but the jetted tub felt good after a long day of walking around the city. Breakfast was delightful and plentiful. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the street and was bright. Closet space was great and room was clean and well maintained.

Cute little hotel on the "main drag" but just far enough out that the evenings were quiet. The hotel has a small elevator that can accommodate 3 people, 3 suitcases, and 3 small personal-sized bags. More than that, and it won't move :-) The hotel is, like almost all hotels in Italy, in an older building, and it took some creative remodeling to engineer all the rooms. Our room was just off the stairwell -- and one could even say it was "in" the stairwell, since you had to exit to the stairwell to access the door to our room. Once in the room, the beds were definitely comfy, there were adequate electrical outlets, and plenty of spots to place our suitcases. Since we were traveling with a Rick Steves tour group, we were only there 2 nights, so... no time to unpack and then it was important that we could access our suitcases. Volterra is a lovely little town and the Hotel La Locanda is perfectly situated for setting out to explore. I would definitely stay here again if we were to return to Volterra. With a car, it would be a great location to set out to explore the surrounding countryside.…

Due to a flight cancellation we were unable to stay at the La Locanda Hotel on the date we had booked. Although we could no longer cancel our reservation without charge, the hotel generously refunded us the full amount of the scheduled night. This shows the excellent and generous service of the staff at La Locanda!

We accessed our room from the 2nd floor stairwell landing. Our room was located on a Main Street, facing a building, and was noisy almost all the time. We had to keep our window open because the room was too warm for us. We parked outside the wall and walked with out suitcases to the hotel.

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for leaving this feedback on La Locanda, we always appreciate the comments of our guests. We have recently installed new windows that make our rooms soundproof from street noise. It would be enough to turn off the heating system and keep the windows closed and you wouldn't have had problems. I'm sorry you didn't tell our staff, we would have solved the problem in seconds. We hope to have you again as our guests in the future, come back and see us! Best regards, Monica S.

had a room overlooking street, the a/c was innefective so had to have the windows open,so much noise from pedestrians and traffic= no sleep at all.the option to have breakfast at a nearby cafe was ridiculously poor, had one juice and one pastry and when i asked for a coffee they said it was extra ! i know times are hard but i didnt think rationing had returned.typical mid range italian hotel, clean comfortable but many years since any money was spent on interior improvements.excellent location and parking nearby.

The hotel is 5 minutes from the centre and the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms very quiet. We were in the suite in room 303 - from the front door there is a small corridor/ landing with three doors - two bedrooms (one double, and the second which was a sitting room with a sofa bed that had a proper mattress on it and was comfortable and the third room a large bathroom with a power shower. The rooms were air conditioned and each bedroom had TVs. The furniture was a bit old fashioned but that didn’t detract. Breakfast was included and the room divided by glass panels and the buffet had to be served to us (once we identified what we wanted). It was tasty!

We visited Volterra for a wedding, and to be honest knew little about the town. Having read reviews of La Locanda we booked and were not disappointed. The hotel is situated just past the gate near the Roman Amphitheatre, perfect placement. We were greeted with a smile which remained during our stay. the hotel is in a very old building and is quirky and interesting. The decor is attractive and well maintained. our room had a lovely high ceiling and had all of the amenities expected of a modern hotel, tea and coffee, tv, hairdryer, toiletries etc. The bed was very comfortable, and whilst we overlooked the street, noise was not a major issue. The bathroom was large and bright. Breakfast was varied, lots of choice, homemade items and eggs cooked at request. Best thing of all about La Locanda, the people. Lovely staff always smiling and doing everything to please the guests, thankfully mostly english speaking as my Italian is somewhat limited, i promise to learn more the next time I visit.…
