"VILLA CRAWFORD" has reopened in May 2013 after a long and precious period of restoration that has taken it back to its old external magnificence. It's an ancient Villa situated on a clifftop with panoramic terraces and views of the Gulf of Naples, Vesuvius and the Sorrentine peninsul and surronded by a wonderful Mediterranean garden. Sorrent down town is just 2 km far.

We loved our stay at Villa Crawford! We booked for only a couple of nights because of the views and the price (especially compared to the cost of staying downtown or in Positano). We had a garden room, which was a little tight but no complaints (although, if you need WiFi, the garden rooms are at the back of the building and do not pick up the WiFi).

The gardens are beautiful! The views are spectacular! The staff were very helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant on one night and it was just as the sun was setting, it was absolutely stunning. There's a "roof top" area with not much going on other than a couple of lounge chairs, but the view from the top is worth a visit up.

The breakfast is... not good. But we took a short stroll and came across a couple of cafes with better breakfast options. The walk to town is about half an hour and taxis are very expensive, but there's a ton of options for dining and shopping. There is a "beach" area about a 5 minute walk away. You can rent lounge chairs for the day, order drinks (we brought our own wine and plastic cups) and swim in the lovely sea. We also took the ferry over the Capri and rented a private boat (it was fairly inexpensive for the day and my boyfriend was the captain just touring us around the island - would recommend!) We would stay again!

I stayed here for 6 nights while attending a watercolor painting group in May. The weather was perfect and Sorrento was beautiful and fabulous! So much more then than the rest of the Amalfi coast. The hotel is romantic and situated beautifully on the coast away from the center.

I decided to upgrade my room because the garden rooms allocated for the class participants were tiny and outdated and separated from the main hotel. The hotel surprised me by upgrading me so I had an antique filled room with two sea views - one of Vesuvius and the other looking toward the port. The hotel has lush garden surroundings and an unusual antique interior. The staff is lovely and helpful (thank you Rosario and the rest of the front desk staff and Monica in the breakfast room). Breakfast is a typical Italian Hotel buffet with good cake,Italian style croissants, yougurt, ham and cheese. I liked the food in general even though we had limited choices as part of the group- but I tried a few things from the complete menu and thought the food was surprisingly good. You cannot beat the views and sunsets from the restaurant’s terrace. If it had a pool and the cappuccino at breakfast wasn’t from a machine, I would say Villa Crawford was perfect.

While painting under the beautiful vine covered patio we enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice from their own garden and good coffee made in their lobby bar. It’s not a conventional hotel since was originally a private villa and has some sort of religious affiliation, but it’s extremely charming and very unique. It’s also a short walk from local bars for coffee and a few steps away from a seaside bar, a beach club and a wonderful restaurant called Coku in the Cocumella Hotel and the Ambassador Hotel where we went for a limoncello spritz! You can take a long but lovely walk into the center of town, a public bus or a taxi for 25-35 Euros. Enjoy!

I really want to give this property a high rating. The staff was very hospitable upon arrival, and the location was stunning. The interior was well decorated. Service was excellent overall.

However, the room had three issues. First, storage was sorely lacking, as there were no drawers to store clothes, and the tiny wardrobe closet wasn’t big enough to store our luggage. Second, the “king bed” was actually two twin beds pushed together, which made the center of the bed uncomfortable. Third, the wet bath was poorly designed, and taking a shower resulted in a huge mess on the entire floor.

But the biggest disappointment was the food. As we were exhausted from travel on arrival, we chose the prix fixe dinner, which was mediocre at best. And the free breakfast consisted solely of cold pastries, cheese, ham, and yogurt. There was no fresh fruit or eggs, which is a problem for those with dietary restrictions. And the coffee was the worst we were served in all of Italy.

All the reviews I have read mention the beauty and tranquility of the garden, the astonishing views across the Bay of Naples and the relaxed ambience of this unusual hotel. The situation in quiet St Agnello is a welcome relief after the frenetic crowds in Sorrento. All this is true. I cannot agree with the recurring criticism of breakfast. It is a standard Italian continental breakfast, fresh and nourishing and supported with great charm by a pair of friendly helpful waitresses. If you want a full English you came to the wrong country.

We were so happy to find this beautiful historic hotel hanging off the cliffs of the Amalfi Coastline. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable, amazing views of the ocean, free breakfast and friendly people working the front desk. The neighborhood is very quiet and it takes about 30 minutes to walk to downtown Sorrento (flat no hills). We stayed for 5 nights and loved it. We saw some amazing sunsets and were really able to relax in this carefree environment. Lots of food options in this area if you don’t feel like walking far. Make sure to book a room with an ocean view, you won’t be disappointed 👍

The accommodation was like being in a horror movie. A shack at the back of the grounds. ripped wallpaper, one bedside cabinet, sockets not working, a squashed room with no facilities. (wanted to charge £25 a day to change rooms) Linen was disgusting.
Staff; Giuseppe, was a wonderful staff member, nothing was too much trouble, however, Melina, was rude and unprofessional, at times not telling the truth. (should find a job she likes)
The breakfast was bread and yoghurts.
The view is breaktaking, however, the outside area was filthy, spilt drinks and dirty. Never sow a cleaner once in the public areas.
NOT A 4 START HOTEL !!

I spent a restful weekend at Villa Crawford at the close of September. The staff are the jewel of the place. Everybody remarks upon how welcoming, friendly and helpful they are. They really do go above and beyond what you might expect from them. They took account of my personal circumstances in an exceptional manner and thus I really enjoyed my stay. I spent most of the time inside the hotel as the weather was changeable. The food was delicious and I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Crawford as a great choice of venue for a weekend away on the Amalfi coast. Consigliato proprio. Top!

This place is most romantic! Beautiful building, manicured gardens, good service. Drinks on the terrace served with the delicious little snacks were fantastic. Dinner (we tried the set menu) was a bit meh. There’s a lovely beach nearby where we went every day. Train station is 20 min walk or a quick taxi ride.

Such a great deal. The staff was exceptional. I highly recommend this place to stay. The beds were not the best but the scenery and the price made it worth it! The grounds were beautiful. The restaurant was exceptional. The breakfast was minimal but for the price, you cannot complain.

Yes they have a dinner service every evening but one needs to confirm it by 5pm the same day & one has to choose from a set menu (in Oct it was 18€ for broschetta, a main & set dessert). But quite honestly I would not recommend it, there are many good restaurants to choose from in the area. The V. Crawford also offers a lunch that can be booked ahead and the club sandwich is very good while sitting on the splendid terrace. The breakfasts feature a good variety and great Italian fresh-ground coffee.
