Our first trip to Sauze D’Oulx and the Grand Baita hotel, booked through Crystal Ski.
Our room was clean, warm and spacious. The large bath was a welcome bonus after a day on the piste.
We stayed half board and found the menu varied enough, though after 5/6 days we booked ourself a steak dinner at the Old Inn (well worth a visit) as an end of holiday treat rather than out of necessity.
The GB staff were polite and attentive. The manager, Bianca was very approachable and efficient with excellent English. If your priority is skiing, the Grand Baita offers a warm, friendly base in which to rest and refuel, especially if you’re working to a tighter budget.
If you want ‘whistle and bells’, a comprehensive menu with excellent wifi connection, you may find the Grand Baita somewhat limited.
The hotel is located in the village centre with access to all the bars and shops. It’s a 10 minute walk to the Clotes ski lift. We paid €50 / 6 days, to store our skis/boots at the ski hire shop directly in front of the lift access. The Grand Baita has a ‘shed’ to store your ski equipment if you’re happy to carry it to/from the lifts everyday, again, it’s about the budget you’re working to. The pistes were well maintained with many runs for the beginner/intermediate and Sestriere easily accessible via a gondola, as well as the rest of the Milky Way resorts.
We would recommend the Grand Baita and happily return there for an activity holiday.

This was our first visit to Sauze d'Oulx and Bianca and her team at the Hotel Gran Baita could not have been more welcoming or pleasant.

The hotel is located just 2-3mins from the central square, but is very peaceful with the only noise being the church bells from the historic church opposite. The ski lift was a 5/10 minutes puff up the hill, though there was an option to take a skibus.

The coach transfers drop you off a 5/10 minute walk down the hill, and by the time we'd picked up skis and made our way to the hotel, our luggage had arrived and we could check in early. The room was incredibly spacious with a balcony looking down the valley and a large bath/shower unit (much appreciated after a day on the slopes).

The food was both plentiful and delicious. Dinners were a generous four course affair, an antipasti buffet, a pasta dish, a main and dessert. The central buffet was replenished throughout the sitting so you could add bread or vegetables to later courses. You chose your menu the preceding night: each course had three options, usually one meat, one fish and one vegetarian. Dessert was a choice of fruit, gelato or a sweet bake. We never had the same option twice, and the buffet changed each day. Breakfast was equally generous with a continental spread, good coffee and was even provided at 4am on our day of departure!

The wifi was, not unexpectedly, a little patchy especially in our room at the far end of the building. However each floor had a cosy area off the stairwell with good connection in addition to the bar/lounge area, which was popular and equally welcoming with a full fire every night. The bar was well stocked and good value, and Bianca was happy to chat and recommend drinks to people's personal taste.

Sauze d'Oulx itself was a great base, with lots of historical charm while being excellently positioned for the larger ski area. With the excellence of the hotel dining room and bar we didn't venture out, but all the local bars and restaurants looked popular and inviting. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend to any skiers.

We stayed in this hotel as part of a week long skiing trip in the week of Christmas day 2021. Bianca (the owner) and her staff could not have done more for us, they all have a fantastic friendly attitude and nothing was too much trouble. Even when things were incredibly busy there was always service with a smile and a few friendly words and a chat.

The rooms are not massive, but certainly not the smallest we have stayed in for a skiing trip. They are clean and more than functional with sufficient hanging space for ski clothing for 2 at the the end of the day, and a double wardrobe with sufficient space for clothes for 2 for a week. The bathroom was a nice surprise as it was a good size with a decent shower and oodles of hot water at all times, and decent water pressure.

The food was amazing, with traditional antipasti followed by a 3 course meal every evening (Italian style), and the menu whilst not being overly complex certainly had excellent choice for most tastes (and I would imagine that alternatives could be sourced if required. Your menu choices for the next day are selected the evening prior, which certainly will help their organisation in the kitchen. As our stay included Christmas Eve/ Christmas day, the food did not disappoint.

Breakfast was a good mix of continental cold choices + hot bacon (italian style), eggs, beans etc. Certainly good enough to set you up for a good days skiing activity.

For the service alone I would have to give this hotel 10/10, but the food elevates it to another level. This hotel has a long history within the same family, and whilst the ownership has recently passed onto the the next generation - they are certainly keeping up very high standards.

If you're skiing, there is an external boot room, with boot warmers and ski / snowboard racks. Whilst there is not a lot of space for everyone to access at the time time, there really wasn't an issue or a queue to get to your ski gear.

This hotel contributed to this being one of our best ever ski holidays, and I would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

We stayed here at the end of February, with it being our first time in Sauze D'olux, the hotel is a short distance to walk from the main square and a little further up hill to the nearest lift (we chose to get the ski bus most days to avoid the crowds at the closest lift). When we arrived we were given the keys straight away and able to go to the room, even though it was before checking in time, this was a great bonus as meant we could get straight into our ski gear and have a cheeky 1/2 day on the slopes. The room was spotlessly clean, and a very good size, with a lovely little balcony that looked up the mountains, great to have a quick check of the weather in the mornings upon getting up. The breakfast in the morning was a great variety with it having a little something different most days, incase you get bored, but we never got bored, the cobs in the morning were lovely and fresh and if you got down bang on the breakfast opening were even still warm showing how fresh they were. The evening meal was also lovely having a choice of 3, starters, mains and deserts each night you would be hard pushed to find something you did not like. As an added bonus there was also a buffet salad selection before your starter, this was great always changed, and was always yummy, was hard to control yourself to make sure you had room for the other courses, most days we did not make desert. The lounge/bar area is lovely an cosy, with a great relaxing atmosphere after you have come off the slopes, we loved having a few drinks in here before going into dinner. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to people, the staff go above and beyond to ensure your are comfortable and are always there to help.

This is our 4th visit to the Gran Baita and although the management has changed, the hotel has not, in fact it has undergone some decoration and building upgrades. It is still family owned and the manager Bianca is a niece . The check in was quick and we were warmly welcomed by Bianca and her mum (sorry forgot mum’s name) and were in our room in minutes. We travelled with Crystal ski and the luggage is delivered to the hotel by van so you don’t have to lug it up the hotel and it was there in about 15 minutes.

I pre booked the room as I wanted one with a balcony, not all rooms have these, so if you want a balcony or a bath, best to let the hotel know prior to visit. The room was large, very clean and has TV with a few English channels for the news etc.

The bar lounge area is big and comfortable with either settees or table and chairs do you can play games. The bar serves a great selection of drinks and there is a large TV for those wanting to watch the news or sport that may be on.

Food is served in the restaurant and the breakfast selection is excellent and we had a hot option available every day. The evening meal was a three course dinner with a pre salad selection available, the choice of courses was selected the evening before and there is a choice of 3 for each course. The staff serving are very friendly and attentive. My only criticism would be that the main courses are a bit small and don’t come with any vegetables/ sides, but you can go back to the salad bar and get some extras if needed.

The hotel is a 2-3 minute walk to the bus stop or about a 10 minute walk, uphill, to the first ski lift-Clotes- but the buses run every 20 minutes but do get full very quickly in the mornings, we got the 8:40 bus and it always empty, the next one could be full before it gets to you. A weekly bus ticket costs 8.5 euros and is well worth it if you want to get to Sportinia.

Would be good if the hotel had its own shuttle service and I believe they are thinking about it, plus some other changes to make your stay even better.

All in all a great week and a big thank you to Bianca, mum and all the staff for making us feel at home again. Hopefully see you next year.

Steve and friends.

Having just come back from a brilliant week in Sauze I wanted to start by saying a massive Thank You to Paulo, Carmen and the rest of the team. You made our Christmas very special.

The food was outstanding once again and the service was brilliant. The Christmas Eve dinner was plentiful and very tasty. The Breakfast always set us both up for a full day of skiing and the Cherry Cake is a firm favourite. Dinner was at least 4 courses starting with a huge salad spread including meats and cheeses. After a full down on the mountain you will certainly be ready to tuck into the delicious food served by the team.

We had one of the rooms in the Annex and it was perfect for our needs. The shower suite looked brand new with consistent hot water (something that doesn't always happen in other places I’ve stayed) and plenty of pressure. The bed was very comfy and quiet. Plenty of storage space completes the room.

The lounge area complete with Carmens Bar (best Aperols in Italy) and roaring fire is a fantastic place to unwind after skiing whilst reading a good book or playing some of the provided games.

We had such a great time in Sauze, we will be back and won’t hesitate to stay at the Hotel Gran Baita.

Hotel Gran Baita deserve all of their brilliant reviews as the service, food and accommodation are all excellent.

We stayed in a standard double and our room was quite spacious with loads of storage. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a powerful shower and great hot water supply.

All of the food was delicious and there's lots of it which is great for hungry skiers. The breakfast buffet has a really good selection of hot and cold food. I prefer the healthier options so was extremely happy with the fruit, cereal and yoghurt but they also offer several cakes and sometimes tiramisu. The strong, fresh, coffee was another bonus. The 4 course evening meal starts with a self-serve buffet then you get to choose from options for the other 3 courses. There's also an extensive wine list and it's all quite reasonably priced.

The hotel has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which is thanks to the really lovely service. All of the staff are welcoming, efficient and will go out of their way to help you. They even helped a group of us organise a private minibus over to Montgenèvre... so thank you Gran Baita!

Hotel Gran Baita is in a central location and just a couple of minutes walk to the centre. There's a boot room at the hotel but we rented skis from Eydallin which is at the bottom of the Clotes lift. They offer free storage with over 3 days rental so it's much more convenient as all of Sauze d'Oulx is on a hill.

The Sportinia lift is further away and the buses aren't free so you have to pay 10 Euros for a weekly pass. We didn't need this but other guests told us that you need to buy the pass before you get on the bus. You can only buy a one-way pass on the bus for 2.50 Euros so people don't realise on the first trip.

We have stayed at this hotel twice this year, and once before everything shut down because of covid, and we will be rebooking again for next year. The location of the hotel is great, it is off the main drag which means its quite, and away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to the slopes and the town so you can still experience everything. The Hotel is spotlessly clean with our room being cleaned every day, as well as all the communal areas, it is lovely and warm, with plenty of hot flowing water which is needed after a day on the slopes. The food was plentiful, with sometimes we just opted for started and dessert and there was just too much, but it was always warm and tasty, always find it a good sign when the owner herself eats the same food as the guests. All the staff could not do enough to help you, and always asked you how your day was and if everything was alright. All in all a fabulous small family run hotel which we love, and would recommend to people, cannot wait to go back next year.

4th or 5th stay in this hotel via Crystal Ski. Our room was large, comfortable and.had a lovely bath. After a day on the slopes a hot soak is a treat Skis snowboards, boots are stored in a shed outside the hotel, locked overnight. About a 10 minute walk to clotes chairlift. This a family run hotel and it shows, real warmth in the welcome and you are truly made to feel at home. A large warm bar area with ample seating helps. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is plentiful and tasty. Don't over do it on the buffet, or the following 3 courses will prove too much. Breakfast provides plenty of opportunity to fuel up before you face the white stuff. I recommend this hotel, and all who work in it without reservation.

Christmas week staying in Gran Baita was very nice. The friendly welcome from Staff and Paulo on arrival with quick check in. Generous size rooms with modern bathrooms, we had a jacuzzi bath which was a godsend after a full days skiing. Breakfasts were plentiful with lots of choice, fresh breads and cakes and perfect coffee machine. Dinner was a 4 course typical Italian menu with a pasta course option, main course and a different salad/aux d'oeuvres table to start every night. The lounge and bar with log fire was a very pleasant place to take pre and after dinner drinks.

What really let Sauze d'oulx down was the antiquated lift system. The lift system is the worst we have ever encountered anywhere!!! Very slow, antiquated, 2 and 4 man chair lifts trying to take everyone from base to top. no 6man, 8 man or bubbles to be seen anywhere. Oil marks on clothes from old lift systems. No investments what so ever into this resort, no slope maintenance carried out or snow cannons used over the Christmas week even though it was cold enough. If you've never been anywhere else then you won't realise the difference with new lift technology in Austria, France, and other Italian resorts. Lifts like you find in Sauze you would of found in Bulgaria 30 years ago.
