Location and cleanliness aside, truly excellent, I can't say that the structure is of high standards. They don't provide breakfast, they don't have kitchen. The welcome is good, but the staff disappears at a certain point (not bad, anyway). The structure, inside, should undergo some maintenance work. In some places the false ceiling has damp and moldy spots. The rooms are not equipped with a telephone and since some mobile telephone operators in the area do not provide a decent service, the risk is to remain isolated. Room 213 for me has been "home" for about 4 years since we discovered this place and especially their lovely balcony on the harbor. The love with which it is run there has prompted improvements that have been greatly appreciated. It's worth 5 stars to me.

Hotel Mari is a hotel to go back to. Very helpful staff who spoke English. My husband and I went to Ponza to find his fathers family and Martina at front desk was very helpful in locating them. The rooms are very simple and clean. Our view was spectacular facing the water. Breakfast was included and was great. I will definitely revisit Hotel Mari and the beautiful island and people of Ponza.

The location is impeccable, as is the view right over the port, but otherwise a disappointment!!
A creepy reception, with makeshift furniture.
The rooms with questionable furnishings are small but what you cannot compromise on is the bathroom, it deserves a major modernization (we are stuck in decades ago!!)
Room on the second floor with faulty elevator, not communicated at the time of booking.
Having walking problems I was forced to make strenuous and painful efforts.
Superior hotel rate with poor services.

We stayed here four days earlier this month and absolutely loved the hotel. The location is perfect, in the heart of the more active part of the town and complete with a beautiful harbor view. The breakfast was quite adequate and location in a neat room. Staff very accommodating and friendly.

I stayed at Hotel Mari for eight days. The hotel is located in the perfect spot of town. Beautiful views, clean and large rooms, the staff more than accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was more than satisfying and Teresa was a joy, greeting you with a cup of espresso every morning. The only issue I had was the hair dryer in the bathroom. It looked like a vacuum cleaner hose with no suction. Ponza is a beautiful island and you get the feel of the island when staying at Hotel Mari!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Mari in May 2015 and really loved it. Our bright, airy room overlooked the harbour and we spent the evenings sitting on the balcony enjoying the view. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom albeit small was quite functional and the high ceilings and french doors opening on to the balcony lifted the room out of the ordinary. The location is very central and the view is to die for. The breakfast was exceptional, made even more enjoyable by Theresa who looked after us very well. We have been travelling for more than 6 months and rely heavily on the internet therefore the only drawback for us was the lack of wifi reception in the room - we had to spend some time in the lobby to get wifi. Overall a great experieince.

I absolutely love this hotel. Let me start off by saying that this hotel is very basic. It’s pretty much no frills. But that being said, it was perfect for our stay in Ponza. Things just happen slower on this island. Things are more peaceful. Ponza is a place where you can go and simply forget about the worries of the world – take in the breathtaking scenery, interact with the locals, enjoy some delicious food, and watch the evening slowly go by as you drink an Aperol Spritz (or two). This hotel fits the bill perfectly for that. It’s centrally located and the staff are warm and pleasant. English is not as common on this island as in other more touristy parts of Italy, and that’s part of the charm. The hotel staff though were very helpful – directing us to the local administrative office so my boyfriend could look up his mom’s birth record, spending time going through the all-italian San Silverio festival guide so we knew what events were happening during the feast day, giving us advice on renting boats, and generally just giving us an insider’s take on things to see and do on the island. The room was basic, but very clean – and although basic, I found it charming. Room was large with a good sized balcony overlooking the harbor – quite a lovely view. Hair dryer in the bathroom was one of the most bizarre looking devices I have ever seen --- like a vacuum attached to the wall. Breakfast was very basic, but the breakfast staff was lovely. The hotel was displaying beautiful ceramics from a local artisan in the common areas, and we ended up buying several pieces. I can’t wait until we go back to Ponza, and would be more than happy to stay at this lovely hotel.

We booked this as a second choice but really glad we did. I am not so fit these days and this is one hilly place which is not so obvious when checking the web. However the hotel is magnificently placed right on the harbour and having a harbour view room is essential to get the complete experience. The rooms are minimal in creature comforts but the atmosphere created by the sounds, colours and lively traffic in the harbour more than make up for this. Life tumbles foward for for most of the day in a crazy interactive choreography between boats and land from the first ferry chugging away at 6.30 am until the last arrivals of the pleasure yachts in the slow waning of the light under a usually remarkable sunset. When we did go out the local buses are 5 minutes tramp around the harbour and for 1€ you can travel the llength and bteadth of this dream island. Breakfast is an experience with the owner and his wife very attentive and providing more than enough for two Scots on holiday. The local restaurants are a joy to experiment in. Seafood paradise.
