Welcome to the Grand Hotel Santa Domitilla, one of the most prestigious hotels on the island of Ponza and the whole Mediterranean coastline. Our elegant and refined common areas have a cool Mediterranean décor and our splendid gardens with their abundance of Mediterranean and exotic plants are surrounded by typical Ponza-style terraces. Two seawater swimming pools are hidden behind a mass of purple bougainvillea, and our fabulous Wellbeing Course winds between lemon trees and fox grapes to the picturesque Roman Grottos with their different temperatures (from 19 to 37°C), numerous hydromassage jets, and the exquisite Arabic style and chromo-therapeutic lighting of the Turkish Bath. Then there is the prestigious restaurant and wine bar, “Il Melograno”, that offers gastronomic delights in wisteria draped bowers.

Detailed Reviews
Ponza is an absolutely stunning island and you need at least four days to get around and check out all the beautiful coves. This hotel could be great but is let down by some of the reception staff. We had sent several emails regarding a transfer from the port to the hotel and got no replies so when we arrived there was no one to pick us up. A very nice man helped us with our luggage and organised a taxi for us. On arrival at the hotel there was not apology just excuses. All they had to do was say sorry but they couldn't do that. The manager of the hotel appeared to be very friendly to the Italian guests, but only greeted us on our last day. When we had a discussion on the pool of the spa area. Apparently to sit on a lounge chair in this area you have to book the chair and you can only have it for two hours. All this is fine and I completely understand the reasons in the busy time, but it should be explained to guests on check in not when you go to sit down. The hotel and the grounds are really nice and the pool area is great. The cleaning staff and the staff in the breakfast room were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are nice but basic, but ours had a beautiful view. I realise that most people we met in Ponza were Italian and I think this hotel caters more for these guests. Our best experience was having dinner at Gennarino a Mare. We enjoyed the food so much we ate their twice. The setting was stunning, great service and the food was outstanding.

One week stay in the hotel with strategic location on the island of Ponza. Shuttle available for arrival and departure, proximity to the port, good hotel overall. Cute and quiet pool area with spa. Breakfast average but for meals at the restaurant Il Melograno c is too hot even at breakfast.
Some aspects to improve such as cleaning in the morning with towels and sheets on the ground in the hallway. Access to the hotel with stairs uncomfortable for strollers and prams. The 4 stars are adequate for the service.

The best hotel in Ponza , although I stayed in a smaller room because everything was full , the atmosphere inside is fantastic , already on arrival you can feel that atmosphere of serenity . Friendly and welcoming staff, complete structure with every comfort . The pool and spa are Top, always there is the bar to enjoy an aperitif in total relaxation.
Breakfast is always served in the garden with a fantastic pergola , really great.
Shuttle service always available for arrival and departure
Satisfied in full
Thank you we will be back to visit you

Structure that seems to have been abandoned for some time.
Dark, dirty and musty smelling rooms.
Exorbitant price because the category it belongs to is certainly not the one declared. There is no view, critical hygienic conditions, both in the rooms and in the common areas. Disorder and chaos along the paths leading to the rooms... towels abandoned on the floor in the corridors, dirty cups from breakfasts made in the room and related trays left for hours in the common areas. Towels supplied in the rooms dirty, worn and worn. Bathrooms and sanitary fixtures to be completely redone. Average breakfast although paper cups for drinking water should be banned in a 4 star hotel. Given the above, I didn't even want to go to swimming pools and wellness areas, therefore I can't comment on the state of them.
I will definitely not return unless a major renovation is done.
Sin. The building and location could have great potential.

We were very disappointed with our week-long stay in this hotel.
The hotel is beautiful, very well located, the garden and the decoration are very good.
These are the only positive points!
We paid €310/night and it was absolutely not worth it.
The room is very small
The shower works poorly (very poor quality hose)
Tiny balcony, no chairs
Very noisy and poorly soundproofed room
On the website there is a Beach Club page, located on Frontone beach. This is misleading content, the hotel does not have a beach, we had to pay €60 / day for 2 deckchairs and a parasol as well as the boat to get there (€14 per day for 2 people). That’s €74 more / day!!
Totally disorganized breakfast service, not enough space, the tables are dirty, the waiters come when you have finished asking if you want a coffee…
Restaurant without more…
No communication from reception, lots of staff, but no information, it's very administrative, not a kind word, not advice on where to go, places to visit, they are there to charge.
And the must: Wifi almost absent from the rooms (this is normal according to reception!). I am used to traveling to the islands (Favignana, Capri, Ischia, Lipari…), and in a 4 star hotel at this price it is unacceptable not to have wi fi

The hotel itself is beautiful. Excellent location. Stunning restaurant. Wonderful pool and bar area but I have never experienced reception staff so rude in my life. They tried to tell us we couldn’t book a table at the restaurant for about 3 nights in a row even though there were multiple tables free. It was like they were playing a game with foreign tourists. When we finally got to go to the restaurant it was wonderful and so were the staff it was just a couple of really rude ladies on reception. It left a really sour taste. I get they want to keep their island for locals and don’t want to be over run like the Amalfi coast but some basic manners would not go astray especially when they are more than happy to take your money.

We stayed in Grande Hotel Santa Domitilla in 2022. We were very excited to be going there as some very close Italian friends told us about how amazing the island was and how we would love the hotel. Before we arrived at the hotel I had written to ask about being picked up from the port. We had a lot of luggage as we were travelling around Europe for several months . When we got to the port there was no one there to meet us so we stopped and spoke to a very nice gentleman who owns Aqua Pazza restuarant and he gave us a lift. When we finally arrived at Reception and told them about the problem we had reaching the hotel they were so rude my husband and I were both actually stunned. The hotel is very nice, but for the price quite dated. The Manager of the hotel did not acknowledge us once during our stay and we were there for five days. He was only interested in Italian speaking guests and that was clearly obvious. Breakfast was really good, but we never had dinner there as we didn't want to give them any business. The staff at breakfast we great eventhough they didn't speak much English but they were always smiling and ready to help. There are some very strange rules about booking chairs at the spa pool, which were not explained to us at check in, and on the last day the Manager told me off. What a joke? He could only speak to me to tell me off. Ponza is beautiful but do yourself a favour stay at Chiai di Luna. Il Porticciollo was the best restaurant we ate at and had three meals there. The food, service, and views are spectacular and the lady who owns it is a wonderful host. It was my birthday and honestly she couldn't have been nicer and organised a beautiful cake for me. Acqua Pazza is also amazing and fantastic view.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of the season. The hotel is located near the port of Ponza, convenient for the seaside promenade where there are several restaurants. The room we were assigned was spacious, clean. Very good breakfast.
The staff very kind. The swimming pool is beautiful

Very flashy hotel in the common areas, corresponding to the category. Restaurant with very good location, service and quality. However, the rooms leave something to be desired, certainly of a lower category in terms of size (our family room for 4 people could have been fine for a couple!!) and for having too basic and dated furnishings. To still deserve the 4 stars it definitely needs a renovation

Elegant, welcoming, central but quiet hotel. Very comfortable swimming pools available to customers, well-kept rooms and very friendly staff. We particularly appreciated the management's willingness to resolve a bad setback that forced us to return early. We can't wait to go back
