I've stayed at the convent twice and loved each weeklong visit. The building is a treat to explore with multiple wings and terraces and a fabulously restored chapel. The central courtyard and grounds are lush and tranquil, and always remind me of the book, The Secret Garden. The rooms, though not luxurious, are quite comfortable and far from monk-ish, and...

I found this convent B&B to be a wonderful, relaxing place. The nuns, especially Giovanna, were kind & even though she didn't speak much (if any) English I think we communicated very well. She hugged us as we left & brought a tear to my eye for her kindness & love. The convent its self is wonderful to explore, such...

The nuns in this convent offer wonderful hospitality as they share their home with you. We have stayed there repeatd times over the past several years. Bed rooms are simple, but very comfortable and most have special views. Each room has its own bathroom.. Location is very convenient to all of the city, and easy to get to from the...

My husband and I stayed at this very unique monastery. There was a beautiful garden and lots of rooms with interesting artwork. Our room was very clean, there was plenty of room and a beautiful big window with a gorgeous view of the terrain. The beds were comfortable and the shower had excellent pressure. The location couldn't be better as...

Three days in April 2015, my friends and I stayed at Instituto San Lodovico in the Italian Umbrian hilltown of Orvieto. We had been traveling and doing some 'soft' hiking for a week, so a respite at this convent was welcomed. Suora Giovanna is a caring and loving person who is efficient, welcoming, knowledgeable in the history of the town...

We stayed here two nights with a group of about 25. It's part art museum, part religious retreat, part hotel, and one of the most interesting places we've ever stayed. Plus it's set just off the main lane that circles the core of the historic city, so everything is within very easy (and beautiful) walking distance. Among the pleasures were...

I believe a place should be reviewed for what it is. If it's a five star hotel I expect to be pampered. When you get to 3 star - it should be clean and have good tv. This is a convent (albeit only 2 sisters live here -- but there is a thriving day care somehow). It is a basic...

If you don't mind "no frills" lodging, there is no better place to stay in Orvieto than the San Lodovico Institute. I stayed here for two weeks in July and absolutely loved it (actually, I wanted to move there permanently). The sisters who run the establishment could not be more loving and kind and by the end of my two...

We stayed four nights at the Institute. The sisters were welcoming and the building and grounds spectacular. Our room was quite adequate, no frills, but a comfortable bed adequate bathroom and lots of room. There are lovely public areas at the hotel, with some restrictions as it remains an active convent. The breakfast was barely adequate, great coffee, some cheese...

My friend and I stayed here in this beautiful place and felt like we were in a grand palace with its sweeping staircase and elegant old rooms. The room was small, but adequate, and the nuns were very welcoming, efficient and friendly. The building, the rooms and the grounds are simply lovely, a perfect place to stay in order to...

“My room was toward the far end of the hallway, away from elevator and stairs--very quiet.”

“I didn't get around to all of the rooms, but if views and charm appeal to you, I think you'll be happy with just about any room. Note this isn't a five-star, though. This is a place to get a good night's rest, but not a place where you'd likely want to stay in your room.”

“If you're there to see the area rather than your room, you cannot beat this place for value. I can't imagine that any of the rooms are noisy and doubt there's that much difference.”

“I stayed in room 5A on the second floor that faces a garden and it was incredibly quiet. There is no A/C in the rooms, but they did seem to get a really great cross breeze throughout the day. There is a laundry facility, but there is a 5 Euro charge, which isn't cheap, but you'll be grateful if you need it. They do not change the towels but once a week, so know that it isn't a typical hotel style, but the rooms are very clean and have all the basic needs. Last note that was frustrating is that although there is wifi, if a lot of people are on, the system gets bogged down and doesn't work. Often, we had to walk to the Blue Bar (a 1 minute walk from the Monastery) to get better wi-fi access.”
