Detailed Reviews
Hotel itself is lovely, in a very picturesque town with huge marble reception area and staircase. Our room was fine, decent size with a nice bathroom. I thought the service was great, I even got a shirt dry-cleaned for a wedding we were going to.
I found the staff friendly and helpful with regard to my terrible Italian and general tourist questions. Although a caveat would be that the Genoa football team had taken over the top floor, and everyone was on their best behaviour for them!
One thing I would quibble with would be the cost of the thermal pool, which was €30 a pop, full stop. The facilities are fine, but not worth this cost which adds up, and I think it actually subsidised our room, which was well priced.

Wonderful, classic European-style Grand Hotel.
Located in the center of Acqui Terme, a lovely small town in the Piedmonte wine region.
Rooms had high ceilings and modern, tiled bathrooms. The hotel has a health spa and offers pools of the famous water. The front desk staff were helpful and spoke English.
Would recommend both the town of Acqui Terme as well as the hotel.

Let me begin by saying that we were here the first time in 2004. The hotel had just been renovated and at that time we decided to spoil ourselves with a suite. The hotel restaurant would serve amazing food in a very classy atmosphere... All in all it was a great stay.
After eight years things are much different. Back for a quick holiday in September 2012, we were quite disappointed. We had bought a 3-day package which included executive room + breakfast and dinner and free entrance to the wellness area. Well, I do not know if we just had a different concept of "executive room" but we were shown a small room with the most uncomfortable bed you can ever imagine. Evidently, no renovation had been ever carried out after our first stay and this room was in need of some works (let alone the sad TV from the '80s which worked very poorly). The bathroom was also small and with no window but at least spotless clean (as the bedroom by the way).
The biggest disappointment of all was the restaurant: in order to cut the prices a bit, I suppose, food quality was not as it was. We were still served some nice food but not as nice as it was back in 2004. And the premises had also been changed into some more... ordinary restaurant.
I am still giving it 3 dots because of its fantastic building and interior in art-deco style (which remain a pleasure for the eyes - at least mine), located just in the heart of Acqui Terme, and the very large and top-quality breakfast. Besides we still found the wellness area very enjoyable as it was never crowded and offers all you want just a few steps away (at the 1st floor of the very same building - but do no expect anything big!).

It was my second time at this hotel. I loved the city and decided to bring my mom from Brazil to enjoy the thermal waters in the hotel (by the way, wonderful services and personnel at the therme) . Everything was fine until the night I found one chinch-bug on the bed. I killed it and went to sleep. Around 2 a.m. I wake up with bites of the insect and I realized the bed was infested with more than 10, all sizes. I killed around 8 and called the reception to ask for changing the room immediately. The door man replied: "I know what you are talking about..." We had to move to another room and somehow get back to sleep to continue our trip next day. My question is why they would use a room that had the same problems before if the hotel was not full ? Why not check if the insect infestation was over before accommodate guests on it ? I am very sad with this experience.

We stay two nights. The building is very nice, rooms are not big but still ok. Problems in the service at breakfast (not a 4 stars service). Problems with parking.

Unfortunately we can only agree with the other 22!!! guests who gave it a terrible experience.
It's an old, rundown, unfriendly and unpleasant huge hotel. The rooms were small, terrible beds, bad cushion, no information about the hotel or the town in the room, just a few soft drinks in the mini bar, plastic glasses! (In a 4 star hotel!). We had to call for bath robes which you needed to go to the terme. The whole hotel gave the impression of a dirty rundown place with very dirty carpets and signs of previous guests with stomach problems.
For breakfast we were welcomed in the most unfriendly person in a huge hall with just a few guests on terrible, sort of uncomfortable draped garden chairs. The worst cappuccino ever which you had to make yourself from a machine accompanied a breakfast of big choice but poor quality.

The hotel is dated. The beds were so hard I could not sleep. Breakfast was nothing special, and the coffee awful. This was the worst stay of a month-long trip, and one of the most expensive. Side note: the massage in the spa was terrible.

Ridiculous Spa !!!
The staff is very unfriendly. The sauna is very small and it's not allowed to use water on the hot stones or any aroma. I asked what kind of sauna this is and the staff's answer was: "we just call it sauna".
The biggest joke ever!!!
The whole place is very small.
At 24 Euro the most expensive Spa and at the same time the worst spa I have ever been to!!!
The 4* hotel should be ashamed of this spa!!!

The entrance, reception all promising. The room: old fashion chic, with taste decorated. No noise from in or outside. The spa was nice, a beautiful swimminghall. The food was excellent and the service in the restaurant could not be better. But..........the bed!! I can not immagine how a 4 star hotel like this can offer such a bed. It seems to be as old as the building!
If you plan to go there ask for the beds. Maybe they have renewed them, else take your own mattrass.

We stayed two nights visiting italy for the wedding of a friend. The problems started when we asked to have an iron and we were told hat the hotel does not take responsibility to give out iron to hotel's guests. The management finally gave in and we received an iron. The mattresses are cheap and bouncy, if you seat at the edge of the bed, you may slide off the bed. The "beauty farm" charge for the roman journey was 32 euros on Saturday, this was not as much of a journey, rather a quest for where things were and a wonder as to why a hotel would charge so much for accessing an average swimming pool, sauna and turkish bath. The "unlimited access to the relaxing lounge" meant that you could have a plastic cup of peach and tangerine tea, the only available.
The hotel is in a very good location and the bedrooms are of decent size.
