We stopped for lunch on our way back from Jabiru. It's an interesting place the front bar was very busy as was the verandah out the front. There is a second quieter dining room that has air conditioning making it much more pleasant to eat in. The food is old fashioned Australian grub no gastropub here we both had the Sunday roast which was extremely reasonably priced very tasty and hearty servings we couldn't eat it all .worth a look if you're visiting Humpty Doo

Hotel itself is an iconic gem and a must do on any trip to this part of Australia.
Hidden out the back are cabins that are clean, reasonably priced and comfortable, with well manicured gardens and shade plus each has an outdoor sitting area.
There’s also a caravan and camping area, although that lacks shade at the moment, and there are some motel rooms on site too. Best option if any are available is the small but very comfortable and well equipped cabins. They’re not new but are quiet and offer up to 3 people comfortable, private accommodation.
Staff friendly, and it’s a fantastic place to stay.
Meals are excellent and atmosphere also relaxed.
Overall an excellent experience. Highly recommend a stay at Humpty Doo.

Stopped here after our visit to the jumping crocs. Kitchen was still serving at 3pm which was great and we all had great meals at food pub prices. Quirky old pub with good atmosphere. I had the steak sanga it was good and kids meals are decent size!

We stopped in here for a drink only and it happened to be on a day when NT was called into lockdown so we were only there until 12.45pm. It is a great looking outback hotel and we will probably go back here for lunch because the meals that came out looked pretty good. Both the bar and outside area are quite large with lots of tables and chairs to sit at. The staff behind the bar were very friendly and keen to help out and prices were what we expected.

I am making a double review (copy and paste) since TA has allowed a double publication of this place and it is fair to allow readers to understand that these two places are intrinsically the same. Meaning: Humpty Doo Tavern (which is the eatery of the hotel) and The Humpty Doo Hotel which as is obvious is the hotel itself. Two names; same place.

Now let's go ahead with the review.

This place is on a dirt road and you wouldn't expect to dine and lodge so comfortably here. The day was sunny and a bit hot as it is expected in the Northern Wild Territories.

I have to admit, between the food, beers and the sleeping we had an awesome time.

I do recommend this place if you want to get a grip of what Aussies are all about and have to offer. This is not a luxury place. This is a country side place, like in a Western movie mixed with a Bikers film. Very fun.

The hostesses and waitresses are tattooed, wearing tank tops and they are very kind and efficient with the special crowd there :)

I do recommend this place to y'all whom wishes to enjoy a good meal, good beer (Great Northern) and a good sleep.

As usual we recommend you to enjoy it and we always encourage our readers to please keep reading and liking our very interesting and in depth reviews on everything: Attractions, Hotels, Restaurants, Museums, Airports and basically anything that is of interest and has a public service. Stay tuned.

Everyone reckoned we had to try it out. Went there after the wildlife park.
Never again. Quite possibly the worst pub grub I’ve ever eaten.
None of the 4 of us could even contemplate the food, much less finish it.
Even the kids refused to eat more than a few bites.
Paper thin steak in the sandwich, greasy imported fish in the burger, dry, grainy schnitzel and a piece of leather for the kids steak.
Just grim. Told the bar staff, just got a blank stare, and a half-ars*d ‘sorry’.

Seriously do not go here until they fix up the quality of the food. Was there a week. I heard about the famous reviews. Had to give it a try after Kakadu. I wish I didn't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like leaving bad reviews as you can see from all my reviews. But I had to say something. I'm not sure if it's because of
the covid situation as many other places have gone downhill. We ordered the special of the trio of burgers and the spare ribs. Food came out in less then 10mins cold seriously the food had been left overs from the night before. Burgers all tree wouldn't amount to the size of half a cheeseburger at mac's. The bread with 3 pieces of lettuce and maybe a teaspoon of the meat!! Are you serious what joke, spare ribs cold and yucky do your self a favour go down to a shelter food hand out for the homeless and don't waste your money here , until someone else is game enough to try and rights good review. What shame you went down hill like this.

When arrived, service was dreadful and really rude. Chewing their nails whilst serving us, food Arrived hopefully
It would save the whole experience but was disappointed, cheese looked like it was left in the sun. Steak sandwich was chewy and tasted like it was old. Hopefully it was a one off, but people around us were saying the same. please bring back good pub food and quality service as it used to be years ago. Even the beer was toasty, compared to other local pubs. When we raised the complaint with the staff they said “oh really” and that was it. Hopefully this doesn’t happen to anyone else as this is an iconic pub with a great reputation.

Stopped here on way back to Darwin from Kakadu for lunch. Meals were good especially the seafood chowder from the specials menu, such a big serve, really tasty and filling. Caesar salad was also nice and fresh.

Stopped for lunch at The Humpty Doo.

The outdoor eating area has ceiling fans which was welcome in the July heat.

All of us were happy with the food: trio of burgers (fish, buffalo and crocodile), Seafood Chowder and garlic prawns. Good pub grub all around.

Pins of Cooper Pale Ale were good as always.

The main negative was that the smoking area is just on the other side of a low wall which did nothing to stop the smoke to get to the table.

Recommended for a visit, food and drink.
