It’s very seldom that service, food & drink, atmosphere and value for money combine at five star level to make a dining experience first class.
Certainly on this occasion I can honestly say that our lunch experience totally lived up to Banchory Lodge’s superb location overlooking the river Dee.
We were attended to quickly and efficiently by Davut who
maintained friendly contact throughout our meal and ensured that we were being well looked after.
Although it was really busy, staff were super efficient with every course being served within a few minutes of ordering. The food was nicely presented, hot and delicious. The log fire added to the cosy atmosphere and the fact that everyone was chatting and enjoying being together meant that no music was required!
No hesitation in recommending Banchory Lodge.

We booked dinner for 5 for an outside table but when we got there the dodgy weather would have made it an uncomfortable experience. Although the inside tables were all fully booked their greeter at the door, Davud, opened up to us a private room which felt very special and we felt they had gone the extra mile to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable evening. Davud even provided us with a bluetooth speaker so we could play our music! The service from our waitresses was very sweet and very efficient. The food was lovely and fresh. I stopped short of giving it a 5 star review because they are not really set up for providing outdoor food if the weather is inclement.

Meal out with friends today.
There was a bit of an issue with my online booking not having gone through but it was resolved promptly.
What a lovely meal. Everyone enjoyed it and not a bit was left.Always a good sign. Not only was the food great but the service was friendly and welcoming.
They were really good even though we may have overran our visit.
They finished at 4pm I think and it was 4.15 that we noticed the time and thought it was very quiet, everyone else had left. The staff hadn't made any move to encourage us to leave..so thank you. Must go back in the summer, with the river running past it will be stunning. Even better it is dog friendly so when we go back the dogs can come too.
Great adherence to the Covid regulations and felt very comfortable.

Fantastic location on the banks of the River Dee, a member of staff walked us to our room and made sure we were happy, which is a nice touch you don’t often get these days. The room itself was a good size, comfortable with all the amenities you would need. Lovely and quiet at night with the sound of the river nearby. We ate in the bar restaurant at night, the food was excellent, there was a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The only real disappointment was when I paid my bill in the morning and realised the cost of drinks - £40 for a half pint of beer, a glass of white wine, double malt and a lemonade is a little steep! Probably my fault, should have realised at the time. All in all an enjoyable stay.

We have stayed here numerous times now, as well as visiting the restaurant when just touring the Banchory area on a day trip and love coming back to it. It is in a stunning location in the banks of the river Dee just where the river Feugh joins it and you will be hard pushed to find a hotel with a more stunning location. Great to be able to walk down near the river with a beer and chill. Bit cold on this occasion though. Surprised to see reviews about the poor service as we were looked after extremely well both nights we stayed. We were in the restaurant with friends the first night and Davut and his team took very good care of us all ensuring the drink flowed freely. On the second evening we had a very impressive young team of waiting staff who once again took very good care of us. So much so that we got their names because we believe in credit where credit is due and the team of Katy, Bailey, Callum, and another blonde haired girl whose name we didn’t mange to get, were superb. Professional, friendly and attentive. Well done to them for making it a lovely evening meal. If honest the only bad point was the hotel room we were allocated. Having asked for a quiet room as we are light sleepers we were put in room 17 which is next to the main stairs (steady stream of people walking by) and it overlooks a courtyard which has extractor fans running all the time and you can hear staff opening doors to the courtyard putting out trash etc from 5 am. As I say we have stayed here numerous times in different rooms and despite asking for a quiet room we were ironically given the noisiest room we have ever had. It didn’t spoil our stay though as we are positive people and thankfully had ear plugs.
Another thing we love about the hotel is that it is genuinely dog friendly. You never feel bad for having your dog and they are always made welcome and pampered by staff. Plenty of things to do in the area like hillwalking / hiking and several castles etc nearby. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel for an overnight stay or to just have a meal.

Banchory Lodge has many selling points not least of all its beautiful setting on the banks of the river Dee and its easy access to the village. The grounds are beautiful and excellently maintained and the staff are extremely friendly. The hotel itself did not however meet our expectations. During our 3 night stay we dined in the hotel once, the menu was not to our liking but to be honest we could have worked this out online before booking, what we did not anticipate was the level of "dog friendliness" which meant we were joined by furry friends in the dining room. Although it is clear that dogs are welcome perhaps naively we did not realise how many areas of the hotel would accommodate dogs which made me feel very uncomfortable especially in food service areas. Thankfully the staff were kind enough to accommodate us in a dog free area for breakfast but this did tarnish our experience, We booked a "comfy double" which in reality meant a very small room and the level of cleanliness fell way below our expected standards, on one day the room was not serviced at all and upon arrival we found dog hairs on the carpet and surfaces which were very dusty. Other small cleanliness issues such as empty hand sanitising stations and no serving tongs at the breakfast buffet impacted on the overall standard. The staff are very friendly but upon check out quite dismissive of our concerns about the quality of the room, the evening staff are clearly less experienced which caused some problems during our one an only dinner but the morning staff were excellent and the breakfast of a good standard. Overall it was not value for money and it is unlikely we would opt for a return visit.

I can honestly tell you that as soon as you enter the grounds of Banchory Lodge you will be dreaming up ways to run away and move there forever!....... many have and I don't blame them one bit! As well as stunning grounds set adjacent to the hypnotic River Dee, the lodge itself is a pure haven. Exquisite interior design, yet such an overwhelming feeling of warmth (including the warm welcome by all the team there). The rooms are all very spacious and each has their own character. Fantastic for a group dinner and entertaining. There is also an array of private entertaining spaces for larger events. A MUST SEE!

Stayed at Banchory Lodge for the second time in the last year so could see how the hotel was adapting to the challenges of CoVID.

I would say that of the 3 hotels we stayed at in on our trip “up north” the Banchory Lodge is taking its CoVID responsibilities most seriously and thoroughly. This is very reassuring.

Yes, things are visibly different eg breakfast choices are reduced and the quality (eg fruit juices) has lessoned but service remains excellent as always, as indeed are all the staff.

Food quality is excellent but prices are higher and choices are more restricted.

Once again a thoroughly enjoyable stay

A lovely place to spend a few nights. Large rooms with ‘interresting’ decor (our room was Indian themed, with mirrors and rattle doors in the headboard...). Great dining facilities, with a help yourself continental breakfast and table service hot breakfast, had a lovely evening meal on one day, and spent an afternoon sat in the sun outside the bar enjoying a cold drink while doing some reading.

I knew Banchory Lodge Hotel pretty well many years ago and enjoyed but , had never stayed over or been to a function . Anyway , absolutely loved everything about it and the busy function for the River Dee Trust ( with Robson Green ) was fantastic - absolutely brilliant service , cuisine and entertainment .

On arrival the lovely receptionist couldn’t have been friendlier and took me to my room - beautiful , warm , large and with a huge refurbished bathroom with gigantic separate shower . I recently stayed at Ballathie and the room was tired and shower pressure woeful . Banchory Lodge was so much better . My table hosts are very experienced restaurateurs and they loved the function and pointed out that the owner of the hotel ( glamorous & very friendly blonde lady ) was actually very much in charge and so hands on and my goodness the staff at the function were brilliant , particularly a very happy young fair lad & stylish grey haired lady with specs . We retired late to the bar for superb cocktails by friendly barman and in the morning a brilliant breakfast served by incredibly polished and witty David who has been at the hotel for years and one of the ‘ best in the business’ . I’ll stop waffling but , genuinely Banchory Lodge is leading the way by first class leadership in the country house hotel scene .

Hello - we are sorry to hear that our normal high levels of service were not what you appear to have received on your last visit. Whilst we don't have a lounge, you are welcome to sit at the bar where we have seating, to enjoy an after dinner drink. Your comments will be passed to Management and we hope we can welcome you back sometime to see that this was not our usual standard.
