Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well what can I say?? What a lovely place for food. I organised my mum's 80th birthday meal for there on Sunday 17th December and couldn't fault anything. Graeme and his team were amazingly, very attentive and couldn't do more for us. The service was brilliant and the food was lovely. Everyone there enjoyed what they ate. We had the meal in the dinning room on the left as you go in which was really good as it meant it was a private meal. Thank you once again Graeme and the gang for everything 👍😘

Visited here with my wife and young child after climbing up Scolty Hill with friends. First thing to note is that this is not a very easily accessible place for wheelchairs and buggies with a few steps to get into the building then a couple steps to get down into the bar / restaurant area. Once in, the barman was very attentive and friendly. He passed us some menus and took our drinks orders right away. I was ready to order food as I had checked the menus out on the streetside prior to entering. I had gone for the 'Cowboy Rodeo Burger' and waited patiently for it to arrive. Service was extremely quick for the quiet restaurant however when the food came, it was far below the standard for what I was expecting for a £16.50 burger and chips. The ingredients used here are what you would expect from a very cheap takeaway or restaurant. The meat was overcooked and dry and the chips were tasteless. Onion rings were soggy and not very pleasant. I was extremely hungry so did eat it - it filled my hunger but that was about it. Overall, for the price I would have expected better ingredients or alternatively I believe management really do need to review the prices for the meals they sell. Extremely expensive for sub standard quality. This is coming from someone who has had burgers in London which have been of much better quality for the same price.

This was simply outstanding for a 2 star hotel. It was nicer than the 4* I stayed in the night before in Aberdeen. Clean and comfy. Graeme made me a coffee in the morning as i waited for my bus to take me back to Aberdeen and this just completed my stay beautifully. These little touches are so appreciated. I'd stay here again if i'm ever back in this neck of the woods.

To begin.. a flat pint of cider but greeted by pleasant welcome. Ordered food, food came but steak came without peppercorn sauce (extra £5). Had to ask for peppercorn sauce we had already ordered. By the Time sauce came mediocre meal was cold and the five pound sauce had a consistency similar to dishwater. Service was the worst I had ever experienced felt ignored and like more of an inconvenience than a paying customer.chef ignored table so did all other staff. Keep your money and spend it elsewhere. Did recieve part refund after speaking to the angry chef won't be back.

The hotel is conveniently situated in the centre of the town and all the staff were friendly, welcoming and most helpful, with the rooms clean and well-equipped. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. In short, we had a pleasant stay in this comfortable hotel.

Booking not honoured.Booked this hotel through a third party. Arrived at said dates to be told they had no recollection of the booking. I told them I had a confirmed booking reference number for the dates 5th and 6th of September. The payment was taken on the 1st of september. Then they said the booking had been cancelled by the third party 6 days ago. I repeated the payment had been taken on the 1st of September. Then management said they had cancelled the booking. And so it went on. We were left with no where to stay at 7pm on that evening. We had to travel miles to find a place to stay at considerable expense. We are still waiting for a refund from said hotel. Do not book this hotel 😡

No one behind the bar to serve drinks or take orders. The Barman who lives in had slept in. I asked if my Mother could have a toasted sandwich, and was told no. I ordered a Ham sandwich and the Chicken caeser salad. We had a soda water and lime and an appetiser. While we waited there were 2 people at reception with no one manning it. Eventually the clients had to go to the bar to ask someone to check them in.This seemed to be the barman who also served the food. The noise from the bar and the swearing was not necessary. 35 minutes we had to wait for the food, again the barman served the food. Rotten customer service not a patch on what this hotel was a few years ago. Had to use the toilets and they were filthy. We will not be returning.

My husband and I have just dined here. It was an absolute disgrace. The service was shocking and as for the bad language and behaviour at the bar area, it certainly made us feel uneasy. The food was passable ….. just. We visit Banchory on a regular basis but will not be back here.
