I was at a hen party at Castlewood House last weekend and was appalled at the aggressive behaviour of a mature man who we found out the following day was indeed the owner ! There was no introduction just an irate ,aggressive man who had clearly been drinking and had decided that entering a house where 20 woman were enjoying a disco ( which had been agreed fully by the management before booking )at 22.15 was the best approach . The average age incidently at this party of ladies was 50 and the majority are professional women who clearly behave in a mature, fun loving manner ! It had also been agreed by the management that we could have a very late check out as there were no other guests arriving and we had indeed paid a lot of money for our weekend . We had a late breakfast all together to finish off our weekend and go our separate ways ! Under no circumstances was our late departure due to any recovery needed due to alcohol ! only , because we were told we could leave later !
The house and facilities themselves are fabulous ,especially for large groups! but beware if booking that the large room complete with dance floor upstairs is ideal for a band or DJ ! but not tolerated by the management even though the two smokers of the company couldn’t here the disco while outside the property ! Such a shame ,but won’t be visiting again due to the rude Male owner .

We have just returned from a long weekend here staying in lodge 19. The location of the site is gorgeous and within a good distance of amenities and things to do. Our lodge (19) was clean and tidy however there are a few things that could do with a little TLC. My main issue and why this is average and not good is a main safety issue. The main bedroom window was locked and no key located to open, this room forms one of the fire escape routes should a fire form in the hallway. The window was locked open a jar and on one evening the room was freezing with quite the draft and no way to close the window. Definitely something the owners or caretakers need to seriously rectify ASAP! The following items are just things I noticed, we paid a higher COVID price of 675 for three nights. We have stayed in similar lodges for a fraction of this cost and we would have expected these items to not be an issue. The hot tub is in very close contact to other lodges with very little privacy, maybe a windbreaker would provide a little privacy? The deck area had points where the decking was loose, this just requires a little maintenance. The lighting in the bathrooms is not sufficient on an evening where it’s dark, suspected incorrect fittings fitted or drivers required. The bed in the main bedroom had springs slightly poking through the mattress, a new is definitely required! The cups in the kitchen are very distressed and could do with new. All in all a lovely stay however a few things that would increase the standard of stay especially with a average cost of 225 per night!

Firstly this just a review of the lodge we stayed in. Morven (26b). I personally think the cleaner missed the bathroom as the rest of the lodge was rather clean but the bathroom had a fair few cobwebs. This was kinda lucky as there is no blind etc on the bathroom window so you can see in from next door. Also missing from the bathroom was a bath mat for the floor as it did get slippy after having a shower. The lodge in general seemed badly fitted. You can't fully open the fridge without hitting the couch. The dining table ( which had screws sticking out of it) was inches from the tv but my biggest complaint was it's semi detached, we fell lucky because next door was v quiet and we only heard the dog bark just once in four days. On a different day with different neighbours who knows....
The big positive was the hot tub was very secluded.
We will more than likely return just not to morven.

I made the unusual 'error' of booking this without checking the reviews, then when I did see them I was very worried that I had made a big mistake. It was completely unnecessary though. The cabin was lovely: tasteful modern decor and very comfortable. Cleaned to a decent standard, with everything you need provided (includes digital TV, free WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, separate fridge and freezer).

The bedrooms are small, but comfortable and perfectly functional on the basis that we didn't go there to stay in our bedrooms! Kitchen is kitted out with all the basic utensils, etc, but do take anything more specialist that you think you might need.
As others have mentioned, there is a fine payable if you touch the heating, however, the cabin is plenty warm and cosy enough - in fact we found it a little too warm at times and had to open the windows!

Hot tub maintained daily. Very relaxing and a key feature for us in choosing this cabin. Only negative is that you do need to take extra care on the decking - they really should add mesh or something as it is very slippery.

Great location, lovely and quiet in beautiful countryside with lots of walks in the local area and good opportunities for eating out in the nearby Banchory. Cabins are a little close together, so not very private, but it wasn't a problem.

Owner and staff were all absolutely lovely and friendly. We loved the extra little touches - essentials like milk and cereals waiting for us when we arrived, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree to help make our stay extra special.

Thank you for helping to make our Christmas perfect!

Thank you for your kind words and pointing out that we do try to look after our customers, that's what makes it all worth while, we are aware off the decking's being slippery at this time off year, we have put down outdoor matting especially designed for decking's on one lodge in which we have found it to be a great success and matting has been order for all the others.

Was there for 5 days with my son. Daughter in law and 2 young grandchildren. I felt this lodge was not cleaned adequately. Found down the sides of settee was a disposable lighter,. A small gas container. 2 balloons and a pound coin.. down the side one of the bedrooms was an empty crisp packet and a piece of cardboard. There always appeared to be a smell the specially on one of the sofas.. the lodge itself was adequate for what we needed but you could not get any WiFi access and had to go away from lodge to access this. The heating states you are not allowed to touch but that was not a problem. The doors squeaked every time you opened doors.
It would have been more practical to have had a vaçuum cleaner which would have enabled us to clean up easier especially having 2 young children. Overall I feel this lodge needs updated and a good clean. Positive feedback. The hot tubs was easily accessible and gave you more privacy. Being able to park close to the lodge. A good location near banchory.and close to Aberdeen and other amenities. Overall our holiday was fine due to having reasonably good weather. I really enjoy the freedom a lodge gives you but I shall not return to this ones

This is our 2nd stay here this year at Castlewood Lodges. We went again as a family with 2 children aged 6 and 10 and with our puppy. We stayed in a clochnaben lodge which is a large 4 bedroom lodge with a hot tub. The balcony is perfect for letting the dog come and go from the indoor to the outdoor space safely. The lodge has bags of space and is very clean and comfortable and is equipped with everything you need. You get a some essentials in the lodge on your arrival like Tea, coffee, Milk, cereal, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand wash and 2 towels in each room which is fab. The owners are lovely and are very helpful. There scenery is gorgeous are there lovely walks nearby. Banchory is only a short 10mins drive away for shops, food etc. The local takeaway restaurants deliver to the park. Stonehaven beach is only 30mins drive away which is lovely and there is a huge play area there for children. Crathes Castle is only 15mins away from the park the grounds there are lovely too and it has a go ape and a play area for kids too, it’s great for walk with the dog. Will definitely go back to Castlewood it’s fab value for money and such a beautiful location. Thanks again guys for another fabulous weekend stay.

We booked Castlewood Lodges very last minute, it was supposed to be our wedding weekend which was moved and then we booked a massive house sleeping 26 which was also cancelled due to the new rules so we decided to go away just us two and the dog and I was lucky enough to find last minute availability here. I didn't read reviews before booking and im glad I hadn't as I would have been a bit worried. We honestly had such a great time and communication from Diana & Ewen was great, they messaged to let us know when the lodge was ready if we wanted an early check in. The lodge we booked slept 8 as it was all that was available so it was very spacious. Had all the kitchen utensils you would need and enough pots, loved the massive fridge freezer aswell. Banchory is only 10 minute drive or £15 taxi if you do want to go for dinner which we did the second night. The hot tub was hot when we arrived and it was so clean. The two nights here were exactly what we needed to de stress and get away together, had a lovely time and will be recommending to everyone.

Beautiful remote group of lodges with hot tubs. First the drawbacks , very little to do and no walks without having to drive to but during a pandemic you want to avoid mixing anyway . Had to vacate by 9am due to Covid which was a bit early with 3 kids. Now the positives . What an absolutely beautiful clean lodge. We really appreciated the extra touches , tinfoil , dishwasher tablets , cloths , loo rolls, etc. We had lodge 21 with 4 bedrooms and it was perfect. Our neighbours were quite noisy with dance music but they kindly stick to the rules and were out the hot tub/deck area by the 11:00 as in regulations. We had a fabulous 3 day break away and the hot tub was lovely and well maintained. Throughly recommend 😃

Arrived on the 30th of December for a weeks stay with family, the place looked great when shown around. Once we had settled in we started to notice lack of maintenance, the kettle was faulty, the en suite had a blocked shower, the toilet set was broken, bathroom window didn’t open etc these were things we were happy to accept, however we paid to have a hot tub that we rarely got to use. The hot tub tripped continually resulting in the temperature dropping which resulted in us unable to use the hot tub. We had brought this up with who I think was the owners son, to which he apologised and promised he would get the owners to come over to have a look at it. 5 hours had passed and the owner appeared. I explained the issue that the hot tub kept tripping, to his response ‘well it’s your responsibility to check the hot tub’ I then went on to say it obviously kept tripping during the night resulting in it dropping at least 5 degrees to which he was adamant it was our fault and that the filter was clogged up. He then said all hot tubs trip, every one of his lodges has the same problem and no one else complains?! He became extremely aggressive when I told him we weren’t happy about paying for a hot tub we couldn’t use. He said that it takes 1 hour per degree it had dropped to heat back up, when I told him that was no use he stormed off. The whole trip we were able to use the hot tub twice. I definitely won’t be back. The owner has a serious attitude problem, and instead of trying to fix the problem, he thought it was acceptable to scream and shout at paying customers!

On the last day of this 4 night stay, The woman in question tried to tell us that she only used the hot tub once if she did she must off taken in a barrow load of dirt in with her, the filter was totally clogged, each morning, her neighbours said they continually used the tub, we tried to explain this to her in which she flew up and told us the hot tub kept tripping and she couldn't use it, the hot tub was checked every morning before they were up, it had tripped the once on the last day in which they were informed it had done so, she was also told to tidy up a open bag off rubbish they had put outside their lodge in which we received another mouthful. our records show lowest the temperature on this tub was at 38 degrees during their stay. we have checked the other items that she has mentioned and have found this to be fictional, we are very disappointed that a customer can treat our staff in this way.

Booked a week here Mon - Fri, very quiet place, there is no club house entertainment or anything like that, perfect, nearest shops are 10 mins by car.

Accommodation is timber lodges which have all the amenities you require, very clean and well kept, towels and bed linen provided, having milk, tea and coffee provided was a nice touch.

Run by Claire and her husband really nice couple, very friendly who provided info on places to visit.

This is a great place as a base for visiting other parts of Scotland. We took a 2hr drive to the Highland Wildlife Park, it was worth it, driving through the Cairngorm Mountains to get there takes you breath away, plenty of other places to visit within the same sort of time frame and other more local DunnottarCastle / Beach 30 mins is worth a visit just for the views.

Oh eggs are available to buy from a box on the drive in 1/2dozen duck eggs a bargain at £1.50.

The only other thing, no mirror in the bathroom, had to use the one in the living room to shave to avoid cutting myself 😁.

If you plan to go to Scotland this is the place to stay.

Photos attached including me in my charity shop kilt £8 bargain!!!
