It's been more than a year since our last stay at the Avalon, though we've been frequent visitors for about 10 years, and we've never posted a review. We travel from USA to Lundy Island more-or-less annually, spending a night or two at the Avalon on our arrival in UK before heading for Lundy and another night or two when...

A five storey Victorian guest house overlooking the sea. So.... there are no lifts and five floors does suggest a few stairs to climb. Reading some previous comments I felt a little sad. This guest house is exactly that...a guest house. It may not be decorated to high modern standards but it is clean and has good amenities. We found...

Stayed for one night at this guest house. I'm sure it was a splendid property in Victorian times. Having read a report that there are 56 stairs to the top of the house, I telephoned to make sure I was on a lower floor due to knee problems and was told it was 39 steps to my room. A friendly...

First and foremost this is NOT a hotel it is a guest house that has a 3 star rating that has been awarded by the proprietor's NOT the tourist board. It makes the travel lodge look like the ritz.Once you get past the front door (which if you don't like bees or wasps you will not manage to do as there...

Stayed here for two nights in august 2014. Owner, the man must have had an off day, but when you check in to a place is it the norm to say hello have you had a good journey ?? Obviously not here. Get the payment he said to his wife ! Beds OK and breakfast OK. Would have been better...

I stayed in the Avalon for three nights with my friend, we were given a room on the top floor which was very clean, had comfy beds and everything you would need. The breakfast was something we looked forward to, this was very nice and there was a lot of choice from the menu, you could also enjoy your food...

When stay at a B&B it is tempting to suggest that if you slept ok (and we did) and the breakfast was ok (actually it was excellent) that all was well. However this would be papering over the cracks (no pun intended!). The condition of our first floor bedroom (room 4) was very poor with clear evidence of past or...

We stayed over a Morris danicng weekend. Owners very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good. Room (up 56 stairs) had a lovely sea view. Towels, sheets etc very clean. Property stuck in an 80's time warp and could do with some decluttering and decorating.

Well the Avalon is an average B & B. The whole place is a little dated, think 1980's. The décor needs a good deal of improvement, as it looks a little tired and overused. We had a top floor, with the toilet and shower cupboard separate from each other. A double room with sea view had been booked for us,...

I visited with friends on a walking holiday in June. What a great guest house!. Really well run and friendly. Great location and a really interesting building. One morning I managed to break the shower fixing. They were so nice about it and when we came in, in the evening it was fixed! Very good value for money and loads...
