My partner and I stayed here over a weekend, from Friday to Sunday. The place looks nice from the outside, and it has all the potential to be a stunning hotel, but once inside it just gives the idea of a neglected place. Basically, it would do with a renovation. Reception is not attended, so you need to ring a...

Stayed here August 2016. It is a good location slightly away from main high street. Plenty of parking. Check-in was very good and we got help with bags up stairs. Our room was spacious and overlooked the well maintained garden. However, the room did need a bit of loving care but this was not a huge problem. One word of...

To charge for parking without warning seems unkind. Our room was dismal, with gravel on two sides, with cars crunching about early and late. Breakfast smoked haddock was microscopic with its poached egg perched on top. Quite expensive for what it was.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed here. We have always found it very comfortable and breakfast very good. This time when we paid our bill there was a £1 parking charge! We found this strange as the hotel advertises "free parking " I know it's only £1 but it wasn't mentioned it was being added to our bill....

Hello Carolyn and Billy Craigie, Thank you for your comments. Our most recent project for updating our property was the entrance road leading upto the hotel. Therefor we have introduced a very small charge for this. Charges show up clearly on booking.com and our website. This showed up on your confirmation as well.

I agree with much of what has been said in other more positive reviews but have to mark down any hotel when you are told that there is a Co-op down the road after asking for any bar snacks. So be warned to bring your own. I am fearful that the dinner may also be stressful as we have been...

Thank you Paul for your comments. As you can see from our restaurant reviews, what we offer is much enjoyed. You won't see our Chef as he is in fact cooking, but you do see me! Hands on in all departments. I wouldn't like to take the credit for our Chef's talents. You came for dinner on both evenings, leaving...

Very quiet hotel and very very good service. Had a lovely dinner. Very flexible service, appreciated (breakfast had to be prepared earlier as we need to leave early). Lovely chess board in the traditional British "reading room". Wifi available but needs to be strengthened/augmented to reach the fringe areas and bedrooms. Good parking. Hotel is easy to find. Even though...

Lovely place to stay. Everything has this antique feel to it, which really gave this place its own atmosphere. Downside to this is some parts of our room were starting to wear out (the window in the bathroom didn't close properly, which made it particularly drafty in there). The lounge area was very cozy. We spent quite a bit of...

Last stop after North Coast 500. Really nice room with georgian shutters on windows in two walls to the gardens. The Garden Room restaurant was excellent, with a South African twist to the food, e.g. venison biltong in a starter (tasty).
