The hotel was very dated and could do with a refurbish. The room had a leak from the ceiling one night when it rained very hard, the ceiling had previous water stains on it. The bathroom was very small, but manageable. No handle on the inside of the shower door making it hard to open with wet fingers, the water alternated between fast and slow, probably because other people were using it at the same time. The mattress protectors were just blankets on the beds which wrinkled underneath you during the night. The towels were nice and clean and fluffy. Due to covid, no room service unless you asked them to change the bedding. You could ask for towels and top ups of tea and coffee etc. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, breakfast was good, though not a large selection. Entertainment on three nights was very good. You had to slam the door to make sure it was closed

It would be a mistake to expect the Ritz Hotel at the prices charged at Medehamstede, but saying that, we had a very enjoyable weekend break there. It was the staff who made it so pleasant - without exception they were helpful, cheerful and friendly, and coped energetically with the sudden influx of guests on our coach trip.Hotel itself is looking somewhat tired, but it was very clean, and the large dining room was always laid out beautifully and looked very inviting. Food was average, but again, we weren't expecting cordon bleu, and rooms were clean, beds comfy. Hotel is close to sea, Shanklin town centre and bus routes. If you want a simple, friendly hotel at bargain price, Medehamstede fits the bill.

Went here with just go coach holidays .we asked for ground floor but still had two lots of about four steps to get to our room ( 34 ) room had two single beds which we found to be ok very clean rooms were not serviced due to C19 clean towels were available from reception rubbish to be collected from outside room shower room with toilet and sink was a little on the small side but we managed ok the room had a big bay window looking on to garden . Electric sockets we saw three which we found plenty, tea coffee milk kettle in room and a Flat screen TV . The hotel is dated but clean the staff were friendly and helpful the manager was very pleasant and nothing seemed too much trouble for him . If we were on the island again yes happy to stay again the meals were ok all served to your table there was a choice and always something we liked . Breakfast we had fresh fruit or flakes followed by full English egg bacon sausage beans fried bread tomato toast butter jams orange juice ( not keen on sausage so had two bacon instead ) entertainment twice whilst we were there which was ok . Bar was waiter service due to C19 any questions please ask

I recently stayed for 4 nights at this hotel, on half board. I acknowledge it wasn’t expensive but we were very disappointed. We were placed on the 3rd floor, no lift and no porterage. I’m 70 and not in brilliant form for lifting a case up 3 flights. The manager did offer to take the case eventually. As they have been closed during the pandemic they should have deep cleaned but carpets, particularly stairs were filthy. As were the hand rails. The toilets on the ground floor were reduced to one from day one and none on 3rd day. We had to climb 3 floors to our room whilst watching entertainment or just go to room and miss it. Food was average, a little bland. Staff in dining room efficient but not very friendly. There was no maintainence or cleaning staff in evidence. Reception staff were unhelpful. Overall a very disappointing stay as most of the residents were elderly and/ or not physically fit or disabled.

Following your review, We only have two floors in the hotel and unfortunately you had not requested a low floor otherwise we would have tried to accomodate you. It was frustrating that both the toilets broke but they were repaired during your stay, We do have a maintenance man, he repaired the toilets and yes we do have cleaning staff.

Just returned from a two night stay at Medehamstede Hotel . We were offered this hotel after beingl advised us that our booking at their sister hotel in Sandown could not be honoured as it was closed .
Our original booking was for bed and breakfast so I asked if they would throw in dinner as a form of compensation as our original Hotel had a spa which was the reason we booked . They kindly agreed to our request .
On arrival at the hotel , which was three hours before check in time the manager on reception said that our room was ready and he offered to carry my case up the flight of stairs to my room . He also advised us that it was a Turkey and Tinsel weekend , which we were unaware of . He also said that we were welcome to have tea and mince pies at 4.30pm before a full Christmas dinner .
Our single rooms were more than adequate. Clean, fresh towels, tea and coffee ,perfect WiFi reception, good shower and a very comfortable bed .
The breakfast and dinners were of a very good standard with a choice of menu , served promptly by very pleasant and friendly staff.
Overall ..... I would agree that the hotel looks a little tired but I have to say I could not find fault with anything. I would certainly visit this hotel again .

Stayed here as a part of a cycling weekend for just the one night. The hotel itself is relatively basic but the rooms were clean and functional and we had everything we needed. Value for money was very good , breakfast was very acceptable. The staff were super, we wanted to store our bikes inside and the staff went out of their way to do this for us. Breakfast service was very good the lady who looked after us was efficient, cheery and polite. The hotel also dealt very efficiently with our bags, we had them delivered to our hotel prior to our arrival and picked up post departure. This went very smoothly. Recommend this hotel for a budget stay in Franklin.

What a fantastic short break me and my husband have just had. A warm welcome from James, who, on our arrival greeted us on the coach.
Our room was spotlessly clean. The restaurant staff were attentive, we didn't wait long for our food, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was top-notch, compliments to the chef. The bar was again spotlessly clean, and the service brilliant, loved the "Happy Hour" The entertainment on Friday and Saturday night was excellent,

Sadly there is no lift, but there are ground floor rooms with just a few stairs for anyone who is disabled.
This is a charming Hotel, with lovely staff

I read the reviews of this hotel before I booked with people knocking the dated decor etc,yes the decor is dated but if they had a full blown renovation it would lose its charm and the price would have doubled.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful, what more do you want in a hotel that your spending 1 night in ,and fair play to them for supplying a full English breakfast as part of the cost where alot of hotels are just offering basic cereal and toast and blaming it on covid.
Thank you to everyone at the Medehamstede for a pleasant stay.

This was a four day coach trip where we should have been staying at a different hotel. We are so glad that we ended up here. On our arrival we were greeted on the coach by the manager who then quickly ran through one or two things before entering. The problem here is that there isn't a lift. But they did have a staff member on hand to take cases to the rooms if needed. A nice touch. They do have some ground floor rooms.
Our 1st floor room was spacious, containing 1 double and 1 single bed plus plenty of storage space. The bathroom has had a makeover where the bath has been replaced by the largest shower cubicle that I've ever used. Towels are changed on request.
Having read the reviews about the meals all that I can say is that either we were fortunate or people were being critical. We could not fault the food or the staff.
The hotel is situated a short walk from the town where you will find buses that actually run on time.
Adding to this, 3 nights of memorable entertainment and a nice bar made it an all round enjoyable short break. Would I go back there? Yes.

Where shall I start, a very dated hotel, stayed in a twin room ground floor, lovely and spacious, that's it. Door to bathroom didn't have the latch in the door fittings, had to use a bolt on the inside. No toiletries as such but a small bar of soap! The towels lovely and white and soft but very very small. My bed was so uncomfortable, I looked under the mattress to see if I could flip it but to find it had at least 8 slats missing no wander it was so uncomfortable. The curtains didn't close at the top had to ask for a peg to hold them together to keep the light out. The door to the room you had to for ably close it properly. Or slam it which is very loud to the other guests. It let light in all round the frame at night it was like having a light on all night. The shower cubical didn't have handle on the inside to close it properly. The Tv was out dated with the channels couldn't update it as was wrong remote for the TV.
Breakfast was the only meal which was pallet able. The evening meals were dreadful!!! The soup was thick and gloopy which was like cold custard.
On a more positive note, the staff are very pleasant and work very hard.
All in all I would definitely not go again. A lot of money is needed to get this hotel up to standard.
Shame as was in a fantastic location close to town train St tion and the beach.

I can’t remember the draught beer. But they had various bottled real ales. And strong bow cider. Hope this helps.

It's about 5-10 minutes away, just round the corner. We used the lift to get to the promenade. It was an absolute god send as we both have trouble with breathing and walking long distances.
