We had a lovely three night stay thanks to Lesley, Colin and Sarah.
From the welcoming chat, over a cup of coffee, Lesley and Colin were excellent and friendly hosts who provided everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
We particularly enjoyed the nice touches such as Lesley’s homemade yoghurt at breakfast and her tasty homemade biscuits provided in the room.
The Guest House is spotlessly clean and well maintained.
Although you can request that your room is serviced daily, cleaning materials are also provided in the wardrobe if you prefer to do it yourself.
The breakfasts, which are pre-ordered the night before from an extensive menu, are very generous, delicious, cooked to perfection and served with a welcoming smile by Sarah. The breakfasts set us up for the whole day!
We stayed in the first floor four poster bedroom which is very comfortable and spacious with a compact shower room. Additional comforts provided are a fan, hair dryer and small fridge for the storage of fresh milk and cold water.
Two bottles of Spring Water are initially provided in the fridge which can be refilled from the complimentary water cooler in the hallway.
All amenities such as toiletries and coffee/tea making items can be replenished on request.
There is one parking space available for each room and the Birkdale’s location is only a few minutes’ walk from the picturesque Shanklin Old Village with its numerous attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs.
We would thoroughly recommend the Birkdale Guest House and would have no hesitation in booking again the next time we visit the Isle of Wight.

Myself and my dad have just stayed at the Birkdale for the IOW scooter weekend. The hosts of the Birkdale, Lesley and Colin, are absolutely fab! They go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. The twin room that we had was spotless and we loved the little extra touches such as the homemade biscuits and the fresh milk in the fridge. The breakfast here is incredible! So much to choose from (I was spoilt for choice every morning) and Sarah who works in the morning is a star. We loved our stay here that much that we re-booked for next years scooter weekend there and then!
Thank you to everyone at the Birkdale for making our stay extra special!

What a great place to stay - the best guest house we have ever stayed in. The house was spotlessly clean, our bedroom was beautifully decorated and the bed very comfortable. Lesley & Colin are perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them, even arranging the ferry bookings. We really appreciated the home made cookies, fresh milk & water in our bedroom fridge and all the toiletries which were provided. There was a wide selection of food offered for breakfast which was prepared to perfection - the fruit salad was amazing.
The homely touches and attention to detail puts The Birkdale in a different league from other guest houses and it is really good value for money. We would recommend it to anyone wanting a stay on the Isle of Wight.

The Birkdale has been our "go to" guest house in Shanklin every summer since 2014.

Lesley and Colin are exceptional hosts assisted by the lovely Sarah.

Attention to detail is faultless! All rooms are extremely well appointed and include a reasonably sized refrigerator. Spring water is available 24 / 7 in the lobby area and fresh milk from the dining room too!

Breakfast, like the hosts, is exceptional! Hot and cold options are extensive! Hard to pick a favourite. We stayed 10 nights and needed longer to work through the hot options. All so so good! Impossible to pick a favourite!

Location perfect being very close to plenty of bars and restaurants for the evenings. Plus a very good theatre too!

Plan to return again and again! WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE !

By far the best B&B we've ever stayed in.
The room was immaculate with so many extras like a fridge, fresh milk, spring water, homemade biscuits to compliment the tea & Coffee facilities. The toiletries were lovely along with large fluffy towels and a superb shower. The bed was comfy with quality pillows and linen. The room was decorated to a exceptionally high standard.
The choice of breakfast was amazing and the quality of the food was outstanding.
Lesley and Colin go above and beyond to make your stay extra special. Can't wait to return in May.

Fantastic adults-only Guest house situated centrally in Shanklin and not too far from the promenade and shoreline. Superbly run by Leslie and Colin who have carefully considered all elements from tasteful, appropriate coastal decoration to quality furnishings, exceptional bedrooms and ensuites. Each guest room has more than adequate facilities for hot and cold beverages in the room, plenty of hanging and cupboard space, quality furnishings again and all very clean. Breakfasts are just fabulous - pre-booked the day before but a very wide choice and something for everyone. Freshly cooked with quality ingredients well presented, you’ll never leave hungry.

It really is impossible to fault this wonderful guest house and we will be back. Praise to Colin and Leslie for providing such high standards and 5 star accommodation and friendly, approachable service.

Have been regular visitors since 2014.

Hosts Lesley and Colin are second to none. Assisted by the lovely Sarah, a truly excellent team.

The premises are spotless throughout providing private resident parking. Guest rooms are tastefully decorated being furnished to an extremely high standard. The owners have thought of every home comfort imaginable! Attention to detail is spot on. Room amenities include a refrigerator. Lesley's "home made" welcome cookies alone are not to be missed.

Breakfast is as good as it gets even compared to a "top end" hotel. Hot choices cooked to order and perfection include locally sourced products. The IOW sausages are a must try! Good vegetarian options too. The oregano tomatoes are to die for!

Location absolutely perfect being just one minute walk away from Shanklin Old Village which houses numerous pubs and restaurants catering for all budgets and tastes. The theatre is just minutes away on foot too!

Have no hesitation to return! Came away with two bookings for 2024!

The Birkdale - SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!

The Birkdale is something rather more than a guest house. It provides all the little extras one would expect to find in a good class hotel. Nothing is forgotten in the quest to make the guest's stay as comfortable as possible. It is spotlessly clean and looks freshly decorated. The bedroom I stayed in whilst not huge was perfectly adequate and the bed very comfortable, the Wi-Fi, included in the price, worked perfectly. There was a small fridge which is a nice touch, especially in the hot weather, a profusion of teas, coffees etc are provided. The bathroom was well appointed with a nice walk-in shower and all toiletries etc provided. Breakfast was excellent with a huge choice of menu, ordered the evening before, and served in an attractive room with well appointed tables. My only concern is that breakfast time is slightly restrictive being just 8.30 - 9.30, possibly an earlier start could be considered but this might be difficult with the lovely Lesley and Colin doing everything themselves.

Set in a beautiful location with off street parking for guests, the Birkdale is by far one of the best guest houses we have stayed at, Lesley and Colin are the perfect hosts/owners who go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay without being Imposing. Nothing was ever too much trouble, our room was spotless with every amenity carefully and thoughtfully provided. The breakfasts are just amazing! The homemade cookies baked by Lesley are delicious, thank you.

Just returned from a weeks stay at The Birkdale. Colin & Lesley with the help of Sarah are excellent hosts who are very accommodating and provide a lovely B&B which can only be described as up market compared to other B&Bs we've stayed at in the Shanklin area over the last 20 years or so. The breakfast choice was considerable not to mention both good quality and generous. The bedrooms are relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom modern and well maintained. It's very welcoming and very conveniently located, only a short walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants. Would certainly make this a first choice for staying on the IoW again. Highly recommended.
