We recently spent one night here meeting family – we travelled south and they travelled north!! We had a very large and airy room with a big bathroom but their room was smaller with a tiny shower room. The beds were lovely and comfortable with crisp bedding. The bar area was very busy but cosy with a lovely atmosphere. The...

Spent two nights here and found the hotel to be comfortable and very clean. Our room was large and nicely decorated. The owner was very friendly and we enjoyed a meal in the bar on our first evening which was very good. The bar and lounge area are lovely and cosy especially after a day of sight seeing. The only...

Booked in for one night with friends for watching World Cup rugby match in Newcastle. First impressions were good, car park a little small but we got in. Friendly looking bar though didn't get chance to try it. Room was spacious with a large bathroom. Only 10 minute walk to train station and city centre. Bed was comfortable and although...

Only stayed 1 night but what a welcome! Family run pub with b& b rooms above so do not expect 5 star luxury but rooms were delightful- bright and airy and very clean. Warm welcome from all the staff but particularly the owner. Convenient location- about 10 minutes walk from the station (uphill!!) and 15 minutes to town centre. Breakfast...

Picked this as a last minute stay - about 15 min walk from city centre, big rooms! Very clean, comfy bed. Good pub with Timothy Taylor real ales! Very very fine! Complaints about the noise are probably from the back rooms rather than the front as there are busy roads each side of the hotel but the front (not the...

The best thing about the Garden house inn was the location, a short walk to Durham city centre. We arrived quite late on the Sunday evening, tired after the Great North run, and were disappointed to find that food service had stopped by 6pm. So we didn't eat in the pub, and can't comment on the food at night, however...

The stresses and day to day debauchery of London life could turn any man into a rundown mess, glass of red in hand and a brief chat to the misses before she leaves the house to do God knows what, we decided we earned a well deserved weekend away, and what better place to pick then Durham city, home of...

Decided to try lunch here as it has been years since I last visited. Although the place resembled the Marie Celeste when I walked in with no customers (well, it was late in the afternoon) but more concerning to me, no bar staff, I decided to wait to see if anyone appeared. After a minute or two a young man...

Lovely rustic place, must improved on how it used to be. Food has gone posh my other half said the cheeseburger was the best he'd had! Maybe a couple more meal choices for toddlers would be good. Otherwise all good, two young lads serving polite and helpful. outside area lovely too.
