Stayed here a couple of times now. Right by the station but not loud. Rooms comfortable, bar and food is good (certainly 4 real ales on tap with a nice log fire) Book a taxi the day before if you need one in the morning, gets busy with business types checking out. In room dvd player. Recommended

Returned to visit my dad and brother (other brother having moved away last year). Not been in Barrow for an age. This time arrived with boyfriend and stayed again at Duke. Still fantastic. New rooms are out of this world. The new Vaults area served very very nice food and, in my new capacity as "token woman who likes real...

We are a local couple who had a burst boiler and leaking pipes so had to find somewhere to stay in a crisis. Booked into the duke of ed where we have been for meals in the past. Stayed for two nights on bed and breakfast and evening meal on the Saturday. All the staff were excellent, special mention to...

We were attending a wedding in Barrow that weekend and I booked this hotel based on its website. I booked two rooms one for my wife and I and one for my son and his fiance. Its not often you visit a hotel where the pictures on the website actually match what you get. Both rooms were very well furnished...

The hotel car park is opposite the hotel diagonally across from it. The staff will provide a permit for your stay. Nice friendly staff. Great room with comfy bed and lovely bath. The breakfast is buffet or full cooked with a vegetarian option! And it was really nice. We had the breakfast twice both the vegi and the meat are...

Stayed the one night with my partner. Weren't meant to check in until 2pm but arrived early, the girl on reception helpfully supplied us with a car park pass so this made things easy for us to then go around town before check in. The reception area has a nice feel to it and the reception staff were polite and...

Thank you for taking the time to write the review. I'm delighted you enjoyed almost everything at the Duke. We are increasingly becoming an unusual entity in Barrow as the large national chains move into the area. But we do try and do things a little different with genuinely home cooked food and the increasingly unusual free breakfast and parking....

I found myself in Barrow on business and was recommended to the hotel by a colleague, I didn't know what to expect was was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms and the bathrooms. The restaurant also served us a good dinner and the service (both restaurant and hotel) was both friendly and efficient. The only drawback was...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I'm delighted you enjoyed (in the main) your recent stay. We'll take a look at the kitchen fan situation, we've had that room operating for some considerable time now with no real noise issues, however it might be that we need to look at improving the sound insulation....

Thank you for your recent review. Your review was, in the most, very positive. I will take a look at the room in question later this week and ascertain what we can do to sharpen up some of the matters you mentioned. By the sound of it it's more minor tweaks rather than fundamental changes. With regards to the tea...

Lovely hotel, we booked an Executive Double room which was very modern, spacious and clean. The bathroom was huge with a tub bath. We had an evening meal in The Vaults restaurant which was great and the cocktails were very well made. The staff were polite and friendly. It's just a shame that the hotel is in such a peculiar...

I am absolutely delighted you enjoyed your recent stay with us. We get many people staying with us either en-route to Scotland or using Barrow as a base from which to explore the Lake District. You're absolutely right, Barrow is a proper Northern industrial town with a fabulous heritage as one of the "boom towns" of the late 19th century....

I stayed at the Duke on a Thursday and Friday night in October. The rest of my extended family were staying at the Premier Inn across town. After a few years of staying in hotels with work I try to avoid large chains and look out for independent/boutique type of places. I'd had a drink at the Duke once when...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. I am delighted you enjoyed your recent stay and note the difference between ourselves, as a small independent hotel operator, compared to the large chains. Every one of the forty two bedrooms at the Duke is individually designed and has its own quirks. All our double beds are...
