#6 of 14 hotels in Barrow-in-Furness
We are an elegant, traditional, independent family run hotel. Built in 1897 we have retained the Victorian character of the hotel, and the hotel is peppered with interesting antiques and curios alongside modern facilities such as free wifi broadband access and i-pod docking stations and DVD players in our Superior Rooms. We are a welcoming hotel with super friendly staff; ideal for families wanting a stay away from the town centre. We are set in private gardens and we beleive in valuing traditional service and the elegance of a bygone era, while offering the best in modern features. We represent an independent alternative to the cloned looks of a chain hotel by offering something unique and personal. Our restaurant is open Monday to Saturday and offers meals from £8.95 - including dishes such as local herdwick lamb and fell bred steak. Parking is on site, private and free of charge.

The place was clean, with all of the essentials. We were able to get a table in the restaurant where the food portions were massive and really reasonably priced. We were just travelling through so we didn't get to see a huge amount but the hotel itself was good value for money and we enjoyed the stay there.

What a brilliant hotel! Due to covid we had to rearrange our wedding at short notice which was very stressful. The Chetwynde bent over backwards to make our day special and arrange things last minute for us. it has a friendly atmosphere and follow covid rules closely. The food is really good expecially the roast beef. I would definitely recommend it as a comfortable place to stay and for a wedding reception. Thank you to all that work there!

Very pleasant stay, I loved the Victoria building and feel of it. I would say it was charming. We stayed in a standard room and it was a great size, a clean comfortable room, the staff were very polite and lovely. The off street free parking was fantastic and there were plenty of spaces. The walk into the town was also easy and refreshing. The Abbey ruins is a delightful vist and it is not 15 mins away by car. The included breakfasts at the hotel were tasty and a nice treat, also if you wanted a little extra then the staff were always willing to help. I wasn't sure if it was because of covid but my partner and I stayed here for 3 days and there wasn't any room service. But that didn't hinder our stay and we would recommend this hotel and definitely come back again.

Pros: Decent room, lovely en-suite Food good value, ok quality Cooked breakfast Cons: Bed is very uncomfortable, pillows are just as bad Sound proofing is abysmal, could hear the other rooms snoring via the doors, not the walls oddly A colleague also mentioned how the roof amplified the sound of the rainfall. “Continental” breakfast is cereal only basically- no fruit selection. Overall a disappointing visit compared to what I was expecting.

Stayed in this hotel a number of times and it has always been brilliant... this stay was not as good, great comfortable clean room, the restaurant service in the evening was very poor and the food was not great I was told it was a new cook and not the chef as before, breakfast service was great and the food was great.
