#7 of 14 in Barrow-in-Furness
We are an elegant, traditional, independent family run hotel. Built in 1897 we have retained the Victorian character of the hotel, and the hotel is peppered with interesting antiques and curios alongside modern facilities such as free wifi broadband access and i-pod docking stations and DVD players in our Superior Rooms. We are a welcoming hotel with super friendly staff; ideal for families wanting a stay away from the town centre. We are set in private gardens and we beleive in valuing traditional service and the elegance of a bygone era, while offering the best in modern features. We represent an independent alternative to the cloned looks of a chain hotel by offering something unique and personal. Our restaurant is open Monday to Saturday and offers meals from £8.95 - including dishes such as local herdwick lamb and fell bred steak. Parking is on site, private and free of charge.

Came to the Chetwynde for a family wedding after not seeing my family since 2019 due to covid and I had a lovely time!! the wedding was beautifully set up and the staff were all really attentive and the location is beautiful!!! The rooms were very clean and the beds comfy !! You could tell the staff really care about their presentation!! The food was lovely in the morning and in the evening and they were even attentive when I asked about Sticky Toffee Pudding and my order WAS very confusing but they dealt with it professionally and with humour which was lovely! I really felt as if I’d got to know the staff as the stay progressed and the overall place has a lovely atmosphere !!

A pleasant stay to meet with friends. A friendly welcome to a tidy hotel. Ample of car parking and in a quiet location. Pleasant room in the annexe, warm and well presented. Closer inspection some low levels were not as clean as they could be. The TV and lamp didn’t work and the hairdryer was in pieces in the drawer, simple things to remedy. Breakfast was nice and the staff were friendly.

This was probably our worst experience at a hotel. The pictures and description are completely deceiving. Had to change rooms as soon as we got there for several reasons; the toilet was disgusting and backed up, lamps broken, one of the doors not working properly. The new room was somewhat more spacious but very unclean, stains on the carpet & walls, holes in the curtains and the wallpaper almost coming off. Also found pieces of hair in the bathroom tub along with a broken cabinet. All the rooms were very humid and the window was a major health & safety concern, but we had no choice to open it as there was no air con and a small fan provided broke. The parking lot was also very disgusting with horrible smells and we found a dead bird right next to our car. Overall extremely poor maintenance and too many hazards! Wish we had read the reviews beforehand, will never be booking with them again. Complete waste of money and time.

Hotel was good, was a little nervous about stopping somewhere especially during covid. Cleanliness of Hotel very good. however there was'nt much evidence of mask wearing. apart from Paige and Sophie the lady who served us our breakfasts, very hard working young lady. and always cheerful. A special mention for Paige who was mainly on reception, but was helping out staff with different duties, she also rearranged our stay at hotel, 4 times because of covid, and the various lockdowns. Location out the town cetre, which suited us, nice and quiet, would stop again.

Value for money, pleasant trip. Competitive price. Stayed in this hotel for a 3 day service was great. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was good value. Only comment is like be that bed was bit squeaky but nothing major. They provided bed for little on without any issues although on booking.com it asked to book 2 rooms.

The place was clean, with all of the essentials. We were able to get a table in the restaurant where the food portions were massive and really reasonably priced. We were just travelling through so we didn't get to see a huge amount but the hotel itself was good value for money and we enjoyed the stay there.
