Storrs Hall is a heritage listed Georgian Mansion house built in the late 1700’s, and has hosted many of Wordsworth’s poetry readings. Storrs Hall was also where Beatrix Potter, the author of The Tales of Peter Rabbit, partied and Sir Winston Churchill vacationed. With grand rooms that overlook the lake, elegant pre-dinner drinks and full English breakfasts of fat Cumbrian sausages with black pudding, it’s easy to love the blue-blooded appeal.

We arrived after a long drive on Christmas Eve and were greeted by a hotel looking absolutely magnificent with its Christmas lights. Then upon check in were offered complimentary drinks in our room. Couldn’t have asked for a better welcome after a tough year. The precautions over Covid were unobtrusive and very reassuring. All the staff wore masks in all areas of the hotel and in the dining rooms. But none of this took away from the splendour of the service. The food was unbelievable - I suppose I didn’t expect that quality of meal for these “ occasions”. How wrong I was. Each meal they remembered all of our dietary requirements - we didn’t have to lift a finger. Christmas Day was just perfect as was the thoughtful Boxing Day pre dinner canapés and champagne. They even had fantastic fireworks afterwards in the pouring rain - while we watched from the warmth of the lounge. The staff were ALL wonderful - so polite and helpful and lovely. Thank you. We were in room 30 - which was gorgeously massive. That bed, the double shower and bath were all to die for. Thank you so much to each and everyone of you. Sorry you had to close for New Year. Wish you all the very best for 2021 - we will be back.

We had our honeymoon here eight years ago and had booked to return for our anniversary in October. Unfortunately, numerous blips including illness, bereavement and a global pandemic meant those plans were put on hold until this week. I was a little apprehensive about staying overnight (even though we were going from a tier 2 are into a tier 2 area) but I needn’t had worried: all precautions were made for safety and yet they were unobtrusive so we could relax and forget about covid for a couple of days! The hotel looked as magnificent as usual upon arrival with a beautiful Christmas tree to greet us as we entered. Our welcome was as warm as the cosy fire in the entrance hall. Our room (37) was cosy and comfortable; the shower was one of the best I’ve experienced but it is the view over the lake that is the piece de resistance. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the cheese soufflé and fresh egg tagliatelle were delicious, as was breakfast both mornings. The Scottish barman (sorry we didn’t get his name) was a delight to chat with, as we’re all the staff. Unfortunately upon our return home today we found out that as of midnight tonight Cumbria is to go into tier 4 - my first thought was of all the poor staff and guests who would now miss out on all the plans for the coming days, and weeks, ahead. I’m so glad we finally got to return to one of our favourite places - I only hope it isn’t too long until we can all return once more.

We have just returned from the most wonderful stay at the Storrs Hall Hotel. After a very difficult year we had a thoroughly restful and delightful break from the moment we arrived until we (reluctantly) left! The hotel has a beautiful position directly on to the shores of Windermere and our room (Room 5) had gorgeous views down and across the lake (as it was on a corner). The room was huge and very comfortably furnished in traditional style. The bathroom was also large and sparkling white and modern with an enormous bath and separate shower and two basins plus underfloor heating. We had a huge and very comfortable bed; two televisions (one in the bathroom); a beautiful sofa and armchair; and lots of storage space. The food at the hotel was splendid (of course more than we could manage) and the service impeccable. The staff were unfailingly helpful and friendly and the views from the dining room down the lake beautiful. The gardens were beautifully kept and the Christmas lights and decorations throughout the hotel and grounds magnificent. We were there for the Christmas package and no effort or expense had been spared to give us a lovely time. We had mulled wine on arrival; champagne each night; crackers on Christmas day and gift bags on Boxing Day. We also had a beautiful gift outside our room on Christmas morning with two lovely Christmas mugs; chocolates; and a drum of chocolate for making hot chocolate. They had also organized quizzes with prizes and there was a pianist before dinner on Boxing Day. Finally, there was a splendid firework display on the evening of Boxing Day. What more could one ask for? We have stayed at a great many hotel throughout Europe and never had a better experience. We certainly hope to return.
