Lovely hotel, we went on an escorted holiday. Room was lovely with a view of lake Windermere. We were asked to pick our evening meal on the day of arrival as there was a wedding taking place on the day we arrived. Not a problem, what we did not expect was to choose the dinner menu for the 4 days we were there! Why would I know on Sunday what i wanted to eat on Wednesday? Not what you expect for a 4* hotel. The meals arrived but vegetables were bought at the end of the meal, we did not get any on the day we arrived only 5 very small squares of potato and 4 tiny french beans. The tables were shared, 6 lovely people at our table but the tables were not cleared properly between course so consequently the waiting staff had difficulty serving meals. Breakfast was self service, not a good choice of cereal and a cooked breakfast in hoppers. I asked if they did porridge and was told no. I asked if I could have a boiled egg and was told "no, there is scrambled egg with the cooked breakfast" I do not like scrambled egg, I do not eat cooked breakfast. I the day before we came home a breakfast menu appeared on the table, on it it stated porridge was made with cream? Fried or poached eggs were available on request, no one mentioned that to me. For a 4* hotel the food service was abysmal. The manager even argued with me over the dessert saying he would check my chosen menu, luckily we had a copy of it. This was a surprise trip organised by my husband as it was on my bucket list as I have incurable cancer. It was not the holiday I had hoped for. If you are disabled and unable to use stairs like myself, please be aware that the lift is a lovely antiquated cage door lift. The door was never closed properly after being used to go upstairs. My poor husband had to keep going upstairs to close the doors correctly so I could get up to the second floor to our room.…
Me and my girlfriend had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 2 nights (20th and 21st October). We had arrived earlier than 15:00hrs (which is the check in time) however, this was no trouble for the hotel; we were able to check in earlier. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel during this period, having ordered room service at £5.00 each time; the food was great. The rooms were adequate and clean, the hotel was also clean throughout. The location is excellent. A special mention for Nick (who works behind the bar), he is a credit to the business, nothing is to much trouble for Nick. He also makes a fantastic cocktail! we will definitely return.
Didn’t stay. Family had afternoon tea. We arrived 30mins late (had a toddler!). Leon, our waiter, told us that it wasn’t a problem. He was great throughout. Hospitable and afternoon tea was great. Wide had the Eaton Mess, she loved it. Staff all welcoming and smiling. Will defo be back. If a manager is reading this, Leon, provided a great service. Well done.
If you want good service and a very clean room don’t stay here. However, if you’d like a hotel with an ideal location and great views then this might be the one for you. This hotel is old and cleanliness is a hit and miss, and so is friendly staff…you can tell some of them really try and enjoy the work they do and others are not so bothered and that really stays with your guests. Overall not great value for money. Look around for other portions and read a few more reviews before you fully commit to a hotel. This is definitely not one of the best places. Needs a bit more up keep and a culture change to be ideal!
We celebrated our wedding at the belsfield on 2nd October 2021 and it was the perfect weekend . From start to finish they couldn’t have done more for us they made the whole process of planning a wedding during the pandemic enjoyable and nothing was too much trouble for any of the stafff. The rooms were beautiful and Alicia and Victoria were planned to perfection . It is our favourite hotel in the lakes and it was so special to get married there . All the food provided through the day was exceptional and our guests couldn’t have been more complimentary. I can’t wait for our next visit to reminisce
