We love Indian food so ordered a takeaway from The Old Well last night, having previously eaten there during the 'dine out to help out' in the summer of 2020. Our food was delivered (free) on time, was hot, and all Covid-19 precautions had been taken. As we had experienced in the past, the food was absolutely delicious. I had the Vegetable Thaali and my husband had Lamb Kosha Mangsho. It all came with rice, chapattis, chutney, raita and papads. The portions are huge, so we have enough for Saturday lunch too. If you've not already tried the food here, you should. Can't recommend it enough. Thanks to you both.

I had fish and chips to takeaway this week, very generous, lemon on the side, the fish had a good flavour.. I would recommend the prompt and friendly takeaway service and range of Indian and old English favourites to anyone.

My husband and I booked to stay here last minute after having to cut a camping trip short. We were worried we would struggle to find a place that would let us bring two dogs but the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. When we arrived we were greeted by the land lady was so kind. We were given a spacious room with access to the garden. We chose to eat at the pub in the evening, unfortunately fireworks were being let off near the town which distressed the dogs. This wasn't an issue to the pub at all, who could have easily asked us to leave the dogs in our room or even eat elsewhere, they were more than happy to sit us in an area that had a few customers so that the noise would cover the sound of the fireworks. This meant that ourselves and the dogs could relax. We had the most fantastic meals. I highly reccomend eating here. The chef Arry is extremely talented. In addition to the food Amy, who served us, was incredibly lovely, she had wonderful customer service skills and really seemed to enjoy her job. Breakfast was wonderful, especially the vegetarian option, it can sometimes be a little difficult to find a very good vegetarian breakfast. In addition to all the staff being fantastic there is also a really fascinating history to the pub. In regards to covid the pub could not be safer, there is a one way system, everything was clean, table service only and staff ensured customers wore masks. We are planning to come back with family at some point. Thank you so much to the whole team for making our stay.

Called in for a few drinks on a flying visit to Barnard Castle. Barman was extremely pleasant and welcoming. Observed all covid measures. Good luck with the disruption to hospitality businesses. Will call next time we pass through.
