This is an excellent hotel to stay. We had 2 nights in Room 1 which overlooks Galgate. 2 easy chairs for sitting in bay window and watching outside. Only criticism, very poor main lighting (a common problem these days ) The food is exceptional. Seafood linguine and lamb shank both excellent, as was mushroom on sourdough starter. Breakfast very good too. Nice fresh fruit, proper field mushrooms included in full English. All service excellent, Covid precautions in place. Own car park close by. And good location in centre of town.
Stayed here for 1 night en route from Suffolk to Scotland. A great find. Lovely room. Great old fashioned pub and restaurant with all modern renovations. Best seafood pasta I've ever had and fabulous Eton mess. Lovely staff. Special shout out to Nicole who is fantastic. Friendly. Brilliant service. She is an asset to the restaurant. We will visit again soon. Thank you
We were a group of 8 people who stayed overnight on 24 Aug 2020. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay albeit having to abide with well regulated and displayed CV19 procedures in the hotel. The rooms were spacious & clean. We had a great meal in the hotel and found the staff very friendly & attentive. Our breakfast was table service and again first class. We will return again in 2021.
We stayed for two nights and found our room, like the rest of the hotel, to be exceptionally clean with modern tasteful decor. Felt very covid safe. We had room 11 which is a double that can also be used as a twin. This room was up one flight of stairs and situated in the annex which I’d only a couple of metres from the main building. Excellent bathroom and shower over bath. Breakfast was a little chaotic at times. This is no reflection on the staff who all worked exceptionally hard. Breakfast was freshly cooked served at the table and we really enjoyed it. I would advise booking if you intend to have your evening meal in the hotel. The choice is limited but the food very nice. We will definitely return.
We have just had a weeks break in Barnard Castle and really liked the Three Horseshoes. We went for a drink on Saturday and immediately liked the atmosphere and was comfortable. we ate on the Monday night and I had the steak and my wife the thai curry and we both really enjoyed the meal. We were meant to be eating at another pub on Wednesday night, and although we had booked, there was a long queue outside and little propect of getting in (overbooking with government scheme). Fortunately the The Horseshoes managed to fit us in and I had the lam shanks and my wife the sausage and mash. Really enjoyable and excellent value for money.
