The hotel star ratings are very misleading, Poppies has a 3 star rating, because it does not have a night porter amongst other minor technicalities, when what really matters to guests is the warmth of welcome, a beautifully presented bedroom, a very good and immaculately clean en-suite bathroom and delicious locally sourced food, all of which Poppies has in abundance....

This was our 3rd hotel in Scotland as we travelled through Callander. The hotel was very well situated a couple of minutes walk into the town. From the start we could tell that this was run by folks who had obviously been in the industry a long time. I believe it was family run but our stay was handled professionally...

When you first arrive at Poppies, you're warmly welcomed by Susan and John, the owners. They continue to work very hard to make sure you have a good stay at their hotel, and that your every need is met. The restaurant is exceptional, with fantastic use of local, fresh foods. The waitstaff is very well trained, so service is excellent....

We arrived just before dinner after a long day driving from Glasgow with stops at Doune and Stirling Castles. Staff was friendly and got us settled in smoothly. Bed was comfortable and well appointed, staff were friendly. Room was fairly quiet. The bar seemed well appointed but we did not partake as we had dinner plans up the road. It...

Stayed here for two nights (1st of five B7Bs) as we begin our 11-day drive around Scotland. The locals assured us that the glorious sunshine we arrived to is the exception rather than the norm. Anyway, this great B&B is a great base to explore Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. We were assigned Room 1 on the second...

Four of us (2 couples) stayed at Poppies for 8 nights, combining spectating at the Commonwealth Games with some exploration of the area. The rooms were really comfortable and clean, with little extras like free toiletries and individual chocolates each day. The entire staff were friendly and welcoming. The owners Sue and John can rightly take pride in this lovely...

Appearance, Comfort, Location, Hospitality, Welcome, Attentiveness, and anything else you can think of to describe an excellent overnight lodging stopover. The food for e.m. and b.f. was finely prepared and served and was the hottest food I have ever had in a hotel or restaurant of any standard. Beds were most comfortable and I would heartily commend Poppies to anyone.

We spent one night here -it was so easy to get to from Edinburgh. Lovely clean room, very homely. The evening meal was included in the tarrif - we both had 3 courses, and it was very good. The Whisky bar was very well stocked - and wines very competitively priced, with a good selection. Highly recommended. We will definitely...
