Me and my fiancée have been twice now and on the second visit we stayed at the Broughton Suite and we were extremely impressed by the quality of the room. The room was very spacious and me and my fiancée made use of all three parts of the room. The staff were very friendly and made our stay equally as great as the last time. The quality of food is unmatched and we were served in a timely manner. The swimming pool was great and I spent every evening there 5* service all round highly recommended.

Hotel's Favourite
We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Grange Hotel and have to say that we were very impressed. Sometimes website photographs do not match reality, but happily, that was not the case and our expectations were fully met. The hotel itself has a charm and an elegance that I imagine it has retained from when it was built in 1866. All areas are beautifully decorated and maintained, and our large room was lovely with a 4 poster bed and a roll top bath in the en-suite. Towels were very white and fluffy, just how they should be. Water was hot and plentiful. Lovely surroundings are so important and I think they affected our fellow guests similarly as everyone seemed friendly and happy. Parking places immediately outside the hotel were limited and usually already taken but we always managed to find a space further down the drive which entailed a short walk back up. Breakfast was well thought out with a list being presented each morning for us to tick our choices of cereal, coffee etc. which was brought to the table. Hot buffet was served separately when we went up for it. We didn’t take dinner in the restaurant as we prefer to go out. Staff members were polite, friendly, and sometimes delightfully informal, it was nice to see them interacting jovially with each other at times. A small issue with our room on arrival was quickly resolved. We were able to book and use the swimming pool and jacuzzi, another good experience. Grange-over-Sands itself is also charming and has an old fashioned and genteel feel about it. The ornamental gardens, with the duck pond, are lovely, and we enjoyed regular walks along the promenade which is also lined with gardens. Whoever maintains these deserves a thank you - they are beautiful. Proper delicious ice cream can be had, and the Indian restaurant in Grange is also to be recommended. A couple of things: new toasters are needed for the breakfast toast; a selection of pillows would be nice rather than pillows all the same thickness. Would we return? Most definitely.

Dear crossfire3108 Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. How fantastic to hear that your stay lived up to your expectations! It is brilliant to read your appreciation of our historic, Victorian hotel and that you felt welcomed and amongst a friendly environment. We are glad that you found time to luxuriate in the pool and jacuzzi. It is the perfect spot to relax and watch the world go by or shake off a few muscle aches after a day's hard fell walking.Thank you for your appreciation of our fabulous staff who are a fantastic team, many of whom have worked together for a long while. They will be glad they made a difference to your stay. Grange-over-Sands is very well served by numerous local volunteers who tend to the fantastic floral displays on the promenade and around town. They are much appreciated by all of us here. The town is a small, vibrant and friendly place with an array of tea rooms and cafes, an Indian and a Chinese restaurant as well as a couple of pubs, both serving good food. Visitors can choose from a range of local walks and rambles depending on how energetic they feel. I will pass forward your suggestions. We value guest feedback in our efforts to maintain and improve our provision. We hope to see you again in the near future. Warm regards Grange Hotel Team

BAD THINGS I was most unimpressed with the Grange hotel in several respects. 1. The rooms are very outdated and look like something from Faulty Towers. Going by the carpet and the decor - it seems like a refurb has not happened since probably 1980. I dread to think whats crawling in the crevices of the hotel. 2. The room furniture is not very practical or functional and is trying to impress by being all sort of "period french Louise XV cabriolet style" furniture but is actually rather gaudy and in parts vulgar. The tables all had thick cold marble tops - including bedside cabinets. The one to work from (e.g. if you're doing laptop work) - is so high, that you can only do laptop work by either standing up or working on your bed. My bed was four poster - but the curtains had so much dust on them - I dare not touch them!!! I would have much preferred a bed with no such frills if cleanliness is at risk! 3. They have a reception staff member called Luke - who I think is new. He did not appear very interested in anyone, lacked people skills, and =simply gave unhelpful responses or looking very blank thus giving you no faith in him whatsoever. He seemed to have little interest in my overcharged invoice bill. 4. Yes, my invoice - had an overcharge of £50. 5. The room price £120 a night I think is quite strong. That includes evening dinner and breakfast, but I think the rate I would pay in most hotels would be £70-80/night GOOD THINGS 1. The bathroom - I have to admit was nice. Although the person who did some repair work and replaced the tiling - has done it so bad that they should get someone professional. I suspect they have been trying to cut corners by keeping costs down by getting an odd job man who doesn't do things to a professional standard. 2. The breakfast was exceptional - good range, Nicely cooked. Attentive and kind staff. The man who serves you is particularly nice. 3. The dinner - was absolutely exceptional. Almost Masterchef quality. Absolutely worth eating here. I was shocked that such a dated and tired hotel could serve such consistently good food. 4. The gardens are absolutely lovely and well kept. 5. Wonderful views from the windows. 6. Most of the staff are nice - apart from Luke and an evening receptionist lady who wasn't particularly warm and inviting, but neither was she cold and blank like Luke. Luke seems to not want to be there.

Excellent service and lovely room in a beautiful building in a lovely location. Convenient for all the lake district. Two weary travellers looking for an overnight stop. But we will definitely return.

Notwithstanding the pandemic, we have stayed at the Grange Hotel year on year since 2006 when we got married there. On our last stay in August 2020 we found out that Angela and her team had left and it shows. On arrival at 2.44pm we waited until 4pm for the room to become available, so any of the hotel's amenities (pool / sauna) couldn't be used. We were then allocated room 102 which is approximately the size of Harry Potter's cupboard at 4 Privet Drive. I raised this with reception as at £194 this room was not value for money. The receptionist offered us a move or a reduction in price (superior room to the cost of a classic), as we were minutes away from a dinner reservation we opted for the latter as moving rooms wasn't an feasible. Problem solved, well until check out on Saturday and were we had to have the discussion all over again as the receptionist on Friday made no record of our conversation to hand over to staff on Saturday. In addition I was advised that the receptionist on Friday ‘had not got the authority to offer another room or discount as he was new' and that 'given the price of things £194 is a fair price'. I have to apologise for losing my temper at this point, but I love the hotel and at the moment I cannot see a day when I will return and that upsets me.
