It's not often you get the chance to stay in such an historic building full of charm. The bar was well priced, comfortable and came with an open fire and Balfour the dog for company. Robert and Giffy were excellent hosts with a keen sense of humour, and were happy to assist us in any way we needed. The hotel...

I was organiser of a dinner for 12 adults last night. There was very positive feedback with great food and service. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended and all agreed that taking into account the cost of food and drinks it was all very good value.

We paid £240 for a twin room for 3 nights over Hogmanay. The restaurant wasn't open for lunch or evening meals at any point during our stay - this was not advertised at the time of booking. The bar was only open on the first night. Trip advisor seems to think this hotel does room service - this was most...

Stayed for three nights over hogmanay. Arrived and wasn't really given much information, found out that the restaurant was closed the entire stay and the bar was closed on the 1st and 2nd which was rather inconvenient, sat in the bar on Hogmanay which had a nice atmosphere despite owners sitting having their dinner so having to sit and wait...

Very comfortable stay in a cosy room. Hosts were very friendly. Very nice breakfast. Walls between rooms are paper thin - could literally hear every word said in the room next door. We were told meals were served in the bar til 9, but when we turned up at 8 they had closed the kitchen. Also, dog roaming the bar...

A lovely hotel. Well looked after and nothing to much bother for the staff. Well located and in easy reach of the town centre and Cathedral. The Orcadians are very friendly. Lots to see and do whilst visiting.

Stayed here for a one night stay while paying a quick visit to Kirkwall recently. The hotel is situated on a quiet side street near the centre of Kirkwall with ample free parking in the local area. My room was spotlessly clean, with en suite and tea/coffee facilities. The double bed was very comfortable and the room had a flat...

I stay away a lot with my work and I have stayed in a lot of hotels/b&bs. This is a lovely little place, the rooms are modern, clean and spacious. One of the gentlemen owners greeted us on arrival and was really friendly and helpful, The food was absolutely delicious, really really good. Cant fault the place really.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This hotel offers simple comforts but is still in the top two or three places to stay in Kirkwall. In 1824, it was built just outside Kirkwall by a retired sea captain, and became Orkney’s first hospital in 1845. Today, owners Gifford Leslie and Robert Dawson provide a warm welcome and comfortable guest rooms. Each with a shower-only bathroom. The property has been refurbished in the past few years and it now fresh and inviting. Cost-conscious meals are served in a small restaurant and bar. Fully licensed to sell alcohol, the hotel attracts both locals and visitors. The West End Hotel, in many ways, is the ideal blend of old and new. ... more   less
