My husband and I just stayed for an overnight dinner b&b package which is excellent value. The staff her are so lovely, work really hard and always checking in that everything is to your liking. Food was delicious at dinner and breakfast, with such a variety that its hard to choose what to go for! The bedroom and bathrooms were lovely and clean, and very well styled. Great place to stay for a quick getaway highly recommended.
My daughter and I had Sunday lunch at The Highdown yesterday. The building is fabulous, old, but warm and welcoming, beautifully decorated with a lovely log fire crackling away in the room we were seated in. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, I had the vegetarian roast and my daughter the roast mix of turkey and beef. Both meals were very good indeed. I will definitely return in the future. Thank you The Highdown for a very pleasant Sunday lunch.
Beautiful building and grounds, splendid bar & restaurant, clean & comfortable rooms.....an excellent overnight stay. We had dinner which was great value on an interesting menu - the Roasted Hake & chorizo was outstanding - and the breakfast was pretty good too. The Gardens [closed to Spring 2021] are wonderful and if you’re looking for a dog-walk with a stunning view - the National Trust land above the hotel is really spectacular.
I have not ben here for years and I am very impressed. We went for breakfast as I didn't fancy cooking and it was delicious. Tea served in a teapot which was nice and proper tea cups rather than mugs. The breakfast was lovely. Very safe from a covid point and all the staff very friendly. We will be back
Arrived for lunch at The Highdown pre check in. A beautiful majestic looking pub, in a gorgeous setting, gardens, Tea house, and rooms in a separate building. Covid precautions allow a very simple check in, masks worn by all staff and customers. Lunch of fish and chips and a crispy beef salad was perfect.... Tim our waiter was very efficient and welcoming. Room 2 was ready at 3pm, a superior king, it was huge, the bathroom was lovely and big with a seperate bathtub and a monsoon glass walk in shower. A king size bed, tea coffee making facilities and the amount of plug sockets, with USB ports in abundance. No disappointment, its really lovely. However we prefer twin beds, so requested a move, no problem, Tom moved us upstairs to another gorgeous room 14...slightly smaller, twin beds, we were delighted, with no bath tub, good for us, and the huge monsoon shower still. Very large bathroom in both rooms. Spotless chrome fittings and tiles, stunning. The TV's here are large 40 inch Samsung smart TV's... all channels, with catch up TV... If you want it. The beds are really comfortable, crisp clean linen and towels, we requested bathrobes when we booked, and they were provided in our room. The huge breakfast choice is by far the best locally sourced quality...you could wish for..... The food generally here is excellent....remember to book lunch and dinner, it gets rather full because its very popular the food is so good. We have rebooked already. Thanks to all the fabulous staff, especially Nathan, Craig and Tim at dinner service for looking after us. …
