We had wanted to stay here for years when we go to the Hay Festival but it's booked up about 10 years in advance. It was taken over by new management who said they had got rid of the list and were starting again and put our name down. To cut a long story short they let us down and... More

We only stayed for a night and it was OK. Some of the rooms have been refurbished and we stayed in one which was fine if a little small. The hotel is well situated on the edge of town and there is parking in the yard.

We have stayed in this Hotel..the only full hotel in Hay..on three occasions..some therefore might think the wife and I are gluttons for punishment.. or perhaps we were under the misunderstanding that the annual convention of the Fawlty Towers Appreciation Society was being held the two days we had booked: To visit and lay flowers on the Brother-in-Laws grave and... I am sorry to report that sunday Lunch at the Swan was really disappointing, leek and potato soup was pure cream with a hint of leek, i couldn't eat it. The quarter fillet of plaice was so small that it was hidden by three small cabbage leaves, uncooked and the leaves only worthy of my compost heap, seared cos lettuce?... More

- At 14:50 we were told we had to wait until exactly 15:00 to check in. - The room was OK, but dated. - The bed was terrible with a very unsupportive mattress. - Hotel workman woke us up at 8.00am talking loudly in the courtyard. All in all a poor experience.

Could be a great hotel but needs updating. Our room had a dent in the wall and was very dark. Great garden, good breakfast but understaffed. Asked for more coffee in our room but it never arriver. Overpriced for what it delivers.

A large number of family were staying here for a family wedding. My room (top level) was booked 6months prior, although i knew nothing at all about the building work until i read the reviews in Late July. It seemed that it had recently been taken over (others had been told about work but not me). Internal work was completed... More

look no further but beware this hotel is tired and needs a good refurbishment. Our twin room was dark even with the small window wide open. The view of the 11 century Motte and Bailey opposite was spoiled by the scaffold on the hotel (external repairs to the stonework). Our single beds were so narrow every time we turned over... More

Stayed here for one night in early August 2016 in preparation for spending a day at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in nearby Abergavenny. Hah is a fabulous place and "The Swan" was idyllic. The room (a superior double) was entirely adequate and although a little small, had all that could be expected. Dinner - taken in the restaurant was... More

We got a bargain deal at the Swan as they are refurbishing the hotel. As the work was being done on the exterior it did not trouble us.The room was dated but clean and well equipped. Even though we arrived a day early we were accommodated with no moans or groans. The hard working manager served us breakfast and lunch ate night... More
