A beautiful place, old as the hills, soulful Fado music and good food. The wine was pretty good as well. The atmosphere was enchanting with the essence of everything a traveler would wish for in the exploration of this lovely little country. I need to go back and rescue my heart

This is a review both of the hotel and the restaurant in its basement since we were there with a group of about 100 from a Viking River cruise on the Douro River. First, the hotel is high on a hill a distance from the river. It's a former convent that has been turned into a hotel, so it is...

Quite an extensive monistary of the Benedictine monks from the 11th century. Well restored in 19th century design. Quiet and peaceful worth a stop. Went at night while raining so the view was limited Today it is a hotel but we were on a tour and did not sleep on the hotel

We went to the restored monastery as a special dinner event for a Viking cruise. Going in November, we arrived at night. So the area around and view from the monastery were not of any value. We were greeted by a "countess" impersonator who gave us a little background. After meandering many long hallways we made to the dining hall....

We visited as part of a cruise tour organised by Amawaterways. We wouldn't mind staying for a night or two in the hotel. Grounds and the restored monastery all look in great condition. Reception of the 100+ group was weel organised. Dinner was, as can be expected for such a large group, not great but not bad at all. Overall...

We also visited this venue on a Viking Cruise. The building is spectacular and the views over the Duoro are to die for. However, the catering for our 100+ people left a lot to be desired. The soup was bland and the pork of the main course was dry (needed some apple sauce). There was a long gap between soup...

We had dinner as part of a Viking River Cruise. 97 people descending on a place at the same time could be a recipe for mediocrity or even disaster but this was wonderful. Twilight arrival at a magical location with a walk through long, long historic corridors to one of numerous, sumptuously furnished reception rooms where we had a short...

This place was awesome. The ambience is like no other and the food was delicious. The place is about a thousand years old and was once a monastery so don't expect anything wild and crazy. Food was cooked in a very large wood burning oven. Everything down to the bread and butter was great. Since I was part of a...

This convent is very special! They invested a lot of money to restore it. It's really amazing! Wonderfull wooden ceilings, nice restaurant, rooms are quite simple but very authentic. We liked this place very much. Prices also ok! We recommend.

We had the misfortune to visit this place whilst on Viking River Cruise as part of one of their pre arranged excursions. We were promised soup, succulent pork and potatoes, a salad and lovely wine. What a joke. The soup was cold and tasteless, salad was thinly sliced tomatoes with a bit of lettuce, amd the pork was 2 small...
