Food superb, room clean and warm, staff disinterested in leaving a good impression. Struggled with my baggage (three items) on my own up and down stairs and to and from my car whilst staff simply watched!!! Not one offering to help. This happened on the way in and way out. Breakfast was good,

We booked last minute as we needed a hotel close to Cumberland Infirmary where a relative had been taken into hospital and arrived late after a long car journey on 28 September. The room had been advertised as a superior double, but although the bed was large the room wasn't and it was difficult for us to move round and...

Sorry to say but this was a disappointment, I had expected that it would be special as a country house with a rich history but sadly it was cold and uninviting. The room was very good bed huge, clean and well furnished but the radiator in the bathroom leaked, toilet paper was the cheapest around. It was like a mausoleum,...

Rang this hotel at 7.30pm after travelling from London on our way to Scotland, luckily had rooms and were given a superior room, number 7 I think, arrived just in time for dinner, had a drink in the bar and then taken through to the restuarant, food was amazing and my husbands steak was huge!! Room was lovely, warm and...

Lovely hotel, great room with extra room with sofa, desk and tv, very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely food in the restaurant and very quiet during week anyway. Will use again if in this area. Highly recommend. No phone signal in hotel room, but has free wifi, so can still communicate with outside world. Just watch out for £10 tray...

Stayed here with my wife and was really impressed. Lovely grounds and the hotel inside was stunning. A lot of history and it is different to any hotel I have stayed in. Was taken aback at first with the entrance to our room up dark windy stone stairs but once we got into the room it was stunning. We stayed...

The staff at Dalston Hall was excellent and accommodating. Food was great and they met our requirements. I felt "at home" there and would go back, particularly if we were driving. Having coffee and tea in the room was a plus.

When first arriving. Actually thought it was closed as the door has unique handle. You must turn it to the right. Felt the hotel is understaffed. One person seem to be doing everything. Found out after returning the rental car, it's suppose to be haunted but saw no ghost. Did watch the ghost documentary that was filmed here. So much...

We had a very pleasant weekend whilst staying for a wedding party. The hotel was very characteristic with lots of interesting medieval artefacts and features. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Our room was spacious and bed very comfortable. The grounds were wel kept and on a pleasant day great to sit out in and relax....

Business trip - spent a week here, very quiet occupancy wise, which was nice...staff attentive and polite, memorable food which was outstanding. Was tasked with travelling around all hotels in Cumbria (terrible job I know) selecting the best for Japanese clients - food here (admittedly mainly steaks) were by far the best I experienced (from the Armathwaite, to the Halston...
