Had thankfully only booked 1 night stay, but would not have stayed longer even if we hadn't. The rooms were very musty smelling and of previous people smoking in them, there were large stains on carpets and quilts that were falling to bits. No communal facilities or area to even make drinks. Felt like we were staying in badly kept...

Not particularly clean, not in great condition, no communal feeling that other hostels have. Would not reccomend for a family. However if your priority is finding simple accomodation in a central location and you can see past the fact that this is student accomodation which is in need of a revamp then this will suit. Staff were all lovely.

I usually trust YHA hostels but this one is really poor. Felt like a cell block, no common area, no help finding places to go around town. Signage is not attractive, everything feels run down and in need of upkeep. Office is only open sporadically, we had to chase down towels. Bedding is horrible, bathrooms old and dirty, poor lighting....

We stayed here while walking Hadrian's Wall. The location is very convenient for both the city and the walk. The location is self-catering, which is OK when you know that there is a large modern supermarket across the street and it is a short walk into the pubs and restaurants in the center of Carlisle. The kitchen and bathrooms were...

Ive stayed here a few times over the years for quick breaks. The place is looking dated now and could do with a lick of paint and general maintenance. The bathroom in the flat I stayed in needed cleaning. It isn't the cheapest hostel but is serviceable if you are visiting Hadrian's wall country.

I've paid £25 for a single room, that smells damp and is freezing cold. The heating isn't even on and it's 10C outside, there is no kitchen, staff are nowhere to be seen, and the room light is abysmal! I wouldn't mind if the room was £10 a night, but seeing as it's £25 I expect something a lot better...

Stayed here for one night while walking Hadrian's Wall with a couple of mates. Essentially it's student accommodation that is turned over to Youth Hostel accommodation during summer holidays - a number of single rooms share a kitchen/diner and bathroom. Good pub nearby and a very large Sainsbury's. It's pretty much next to the castle and very close to Hadrian's...

This place is fine if all you need is a place to crash for the night. Bedroom not particularly clean, weird pillow system where it is enclosed into the undersheet, I'm sure this is of benefit to someone (staff) but not guests. The kitchen was clean and nice enough for cooking your dinner and having breakfast. The place is well...

We stayed overnight before starting our cycle tour because the hostel has secure bike storage and it was well situated for us, close to the city centre but handy for the route we would take. Being able to cook for ourselves was an advantage but there were few pans and there were only 4 chairs so we had to coordinate...

Nice stop during Hadrian's Wall Trek. A nice change to get individual rooms on a floor of 4. Plenty of room space, shared shower, nice rest area with TV, Kitchen area with all essentials. Within 10 minute walk to railway station, bars etc.
