Refurbished pub in quiet village. Evening meal was excellent. Accommodation spotless with new bathrooms just a short walk to the rear of the pub. Friendly land lady. A dinner B&B package would be useful. Good selection of ale

Thank you - we will look at your idea of a dinner b+b package. Makes sense.

Came here for dinner in August after pub recently refurbished. There were 6 of us who sat down for an evening meal. Menu not great - I struggled to find something I liked. Everything is served with chips! I asked for a starter for a main course which still came up minute. Not really sure I would return due to...

You are right! When you came in August 2015 we had just re-opened after a major refurb with new staff and there were some issues - so we changed key kitchen staff, the menus and the service . If you let me or the manager know who you are I would like to offer you and a friend a retry...

The Sleepy Fox B&B is really a block of 4 rooms built behind the pub The Layer Fox. The rooms have been recently added and are of a good size with a wet room for showering. There was a big comfortable bed and the room was quite large. The room needed a wardrobe or hanging rail and the shower could...

Stayed here for the weekend with our Jack Russell who was warmly welcomed. Nice room, very comfortable bed and one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. We look forward to staying again when visiting family in the area. Zoe is a real sweetie.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay but since then the Fox has changed hands and if you liked it then, I hope and think you will enjoy it more after a huge revamp, refurb and a room upgrade

The staff are very friendly. We had a big comfortable double with a huge wet room bathroom (10 foot square ish) for 2 nights. We had on both mornings the full English breakfast which seem to take an age to come. 50 minutes the first day and an hour the second. We had lots of other little issues. The first...

You bet! That's why we bought it in April last year and did a huge refurb from top to bottom (why were some walls purple!!)plus new staff, and a new menu. Your review covers a period before we bought the business and I hope you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes. If your wife ever suffers like that under...

Comfortable clean room with a large bathroom, very friendly and helpful staff, especially Zoe who made us really welcome, and good food, with large portions, both in the evening and for breakfast the following morning. Rooms are separate from the pub - across the car park - so are very quiet. Lovely friendly atmosphere in the pub, which is obviously...

This is a good review and thanks for that but we can take no credit as you stayed in 2014 and from August 2015 ownership and management have changed. But when you come back I hope and believe you will be amazed at the level of improvement but without an increase in prices.

We stayed overnight here as part of (a very wet!) Magical Mystery Tour of Essex. We arrived cold and bedraggled but received an amazingly warm welcome. The rooms were simple but clean and comfortable with plenty of hot drink options available (much appreciated on the coldest, wettest day of June) - the heating was even turned on for us. The...

People were friendly. Room was a very good (size). Apart from third day, it took the staff a very long time to cook breakfast. Fortunately we were on holiday. Evening meal was just ok but the pudding very nice.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you liked your room as I had to pawn the children to pay for the repairs. I will look into your breakfast as it is hardly a complex meal. When I have been watching it seems pretty fast but you may be right. No, I think for any pub to be refined...

We arrived at the layer fox and were straight away made to feel very welcome. With a complimentary welcome drink. We were then shown to our rooms which were modern, clean and equipped with all we needed . We are in the pub and the food was superb. All home made with local produce. We then joined in the quiz...
