We had an hour till our train was to arrive so we decided to go grab a couple beers. Just around the corner from the station is Candlesticks. It was very welcoming and reasonable. The owner talked to us about stamford and all the history of Candlesticks and even guided us downstairs to see the rest of the restaurant. It's... More

Our second stay in 2016 here. A nice place to stay but this time we had Room.1 which picked up every sound until the rest of the building were settled for the night. Three course evening meal was not too bad but more effort on Breakfast perhaps,Breakfast menu maybe? Could not get a better host anywhere, great guy.

The food was very good, ambiance cozy. Service was prompt and overall reasonable value for money. When the dining area filled up, it felt slightly more cramped than cozy but it lived up to its name, not an electric light to be seen in the downstairs restaurant which gave it a pleasant albeit quirky feel.

6 of us visited here, we was sat in the bar area where we was given menus to look at, we then placed our order and sat up there till our starters were ready. We then went downstairs, it is small down there but nice. Our starters came out and they were nice. Main course we all had something different... More

Hubby got a great deal to stay over which included dinner and breakfast. A beautiful period building located centrally for a walk around pretty Stamford. Rooms are as stated, simple and could do with a makeover but comfortable enough for a short stay. We loved the cellar restaurant with the candlestick lighting and very good waiting staff. We didn't like... More

A hotel and restaurant full of character and charm. The restaurant is subterranean, lit entirely by candles ..... hence the name. A wonderful place to enjoy a romantic dinner but equally atmospheric if dining alone. The menu was varied, offering a three course meal for less than £25. The accommodation represents good value for money and includes a DIY breakfast.

This old building gives eight odd shaped rooms which are all individual but they are comfy and have everything you need. It is set back from the main drag and so is quiet. Parking is available alongside the entrance. A large continental breakfast was provided in-room. The location is really good, because everything is just a walk away. There is... More

Stamford is a lovely small historic town build from attractive stone. Candlesticks dates from the 1800s. This is not a chain 'been in one been in them all' type place. It is small and unique - a 'restaurant with rooms' (and I prefer the priority in that order). The owner is an international wine judge, of Portuguese background, and the... More

We stayed one night in room 2. A bit of a trek up the stairs but the room was clean and comfortable. Tight fit between bed and route to bathroom. Bathroom itself large. Surprisingly quiet considering how near to High Street, St Martins. Very well situated for walking into town. Parking is limited at the hotel but we parked in... More

I stayed here 5 or 6 times, and really liked it. Small rooms, old fashioned but well kept. Lovely cavern restaurant - i recommend the fish. Good for the price. Family business. Good bar area. The owner knows all about wine.
