We booked 'room only' and were given the keys to our room (room 11, top floor) with a front door key attached. From start to finish of our 2 night stay we saw no staff at all. The front door was always locked. It seemed, I imagine, just like a boarding house. Our room (11) was on the 4th floor... More

We had a very pleasant stay at the Ellesmere despite it being quite dated. The owner was very helpful. The room was very clean and had plenty tea and coffee. We would definitely book here again and recommend it to anyone who is not looking for a modern up to date hotel, but a comfortable good value stay.

Owner was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Hotel very quiet at night. The rooms do get very hot at night and found it difficult to sleep. A fan would have been good in the room. Nice lounge to relax in downstairs. Rooms very outdated and bathrooms require major updating. Breakfast not cooked to order which was disappointing... More

Thank you very much for a great stay at The Ellesmere. We were only at the hotel for one night for business however we were very impressed with the hotel and particularly the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. High recommended! We all will be definitely back again. Thanks again.

The Ellesmere Hotel is situated at the western end of Eastbourne town, a good ten minutes' walk into the centre but right in the heart of the theatre district, Tennis Courts and Eastbourne College. Brilliant, if that is where you really want to be. The front rooms look out on to Wilmington Square, a large grassed area with a shrubbery... More

Staff are friendly & helpful. We wanted to walk to seven sisters national park when we arrived & the receptionist offered us a local map & bus timetable & explained the best route there. Room was large, spacious & comfortable. Hotel is a stones throw away from the beach & very cheap.

A fairly late booking in order to see a show at the Congress Theatre turned out to be unexpectedly pleasant with a comfortable room and excellent breakfast. I had requested a ground floor room which in the event also had its own entrance with no steps. The owner, Peter, was attentive and made us feel most welcome. Comfortable beds with... More

Great stay, great hospitality, very quiet, best sleep in ages. Breakfast yummy and plentiful. Yes decor could do with a revamp, but don't let that deter you from this great rarity of a find. Definitely stay again. Thanks Peter!

Special thanks to Peter who was very nice to us and made us feel comfortable. I didn't have big expectations when I booked the room, I got exactly what I paid for. He was nice enough to place us on a top floor so we can see the sea from our room. The rooms are not big, I knew that... More

We were shown where to park free, and then the manager carried our luggage to our 'dog friendly' room. He was very warm and welcoming and asked us if we would like any bowls or anything for our dog. We asked about breakfast because as we travel a lot, we understand that dogs are not allowed in the dining room,... More
